Rashi compatibility

The four Ashtakoot kootas two rashis are enough to work out, for all 144 pairs, and a straight answer about the twenty-one points that need a birth time.

Read a row as the first person and a column as the second. The grid is not the same both ways, and that is not a bug. Varna compares the first person’s varna with the second person’s, and Bhakoot counts from the first rashi.

Why not a percentage

why we show it this way

Almost every sun-sign compatibility page scores a pair by element. It looks up ten pairings, which gives eight distinct answers for all 144 sign pairs. Aries and Leo comes out identical to Aries and Sagittarius, because the table cannot tell them apart. The four kootas here give 27 distinct scores, because they read the rashi lords and the count between the rashis, not the element alone.

Varna1 ptspiritual compatibility and ego

Compares the two rashis’ varna. It is one point of thirty-six and the only koota that is explicitly asymmetric by design.

Vashya2 ptswho adjusts to whom

Groups the rashis into man, quadruped, water, insect and wild. It shows how the two rashis relate to each other, not who is in charge.

Graha Maitri5 ptsmental compatibility

The friendship between the two rashi lords. It has five points, and it is the koota most often described as mental compatibility.

Bhakoot7 ptsthe count between the rashis

The largest single koota. It looks at how far the second rashi sits from the first. Three of those distances carry a classical caution.

Twenty-one of the thirty-six points depend on the nakshatra, which is the Moon’s exact position at birth. The Moon moves through all 27 of them in under a month. No page that knows only two rashis can work them out, and any page that prints a “36-point score” from two sun signs is making twenty-one of them up.

Fifteen points is where two rashis stop.

Gun Milan scores thirty-six across eight kootas and checks Mangal dosha on both charts. It needs two birth times, and it is free.
