This work takes the fixed ones (Rohini, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada), the swift ones (Ashwini, Pushya, Hasta) and the soft ones (Mrigashira, Chitra, Anuradha, Revati). It leaves out the rikta (“empty”) tithis, Chaturthi, Navami and Chaturdashi, which are kept clear of beginnings, and Amavasya, the dark night. Its table also leaves out Shukla Pratipada, which it does not count among this work’s tithis. Tuesday is Mangal’s day, and Mangal is a krura (harsh) graha: that day is left out.
