Mantra, daan, vrat, ratna, rudraksha and the Lal Kitab upay for Ketu in each bhava, each with the reason it is given.
These are suggestions, not prescriptions. The tradition turns to them when Ketu is weak or troubled in a kundli, or when its dasha or a hard transit is running. Your kundli says which applies to you.
The graha’s seed sound. Chanted with a steady count, it is the oldest way to strengthen what Ketu stands for: detachment, spirituality and deep study. Begin on Tuesday and keep the same time and count each day until the full count is done.
ॐ स्रां स्रीं स्रौं सः केतवे नमः
Om Sraam Sreem Sraum Sah Ketave Namah
A short mantra of Ketu’s own name, for those who would rather pray than count. The deity worshipped for Ketu is Lord Ganesha.
ॐ केतवे नमः
Om Ketave Namah · 108 times
Give what belongs to Ketu, on its day, to someone who needs it. Lal Kitab and the Parashari tradition both count it the gentlest upay.
A fast on Tuesday or Thursday, kept for Ganesha, steadies the mind and eases Ketu’s troubles.
A ratna strengthens Ketu. A node rules no house, so its stone is judged by the rashi it sits in: it helps only when the lord of that rashi is good for your lagna. Wear it only after the kundli is checked.
A rudraksha carries none of a ratna’s risk; it is worn to keep Ketu calm and steady. A bead’s deity goes with its mukhi (the number of lines), so it can differ from the deity worshipped for Ketu above.
Lal Kitab gives a different upay for each bhava, because Ketu does different things from each. Use the one for the house it occupies in your kundli. A pakka ghar is the house Lal Kitab treats as a graha’s permanent home.
| Bhava | Upay | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1st house | Feed stray dogs; donate a brown or grey blanket. | To ease the hard side: Ketu in the 1st house gives a spiritual and detached personality. |
| 2nd house | Feed dogs; donate saffron items and keep a golden piece at home. | To ease the hard side: Ketu in the 2nd house causes losses in family wealth, unclear speech, and eye problems. |
| 3rd house | Apply a saffron tilak and wear gold. | To steady a placement Lal Kitab reads both ways: Ketu in the 3rd house is a mixed placement in Lal Kitab. |
| 4th house | Keep a pet dog; donate grey or brown blankets. | To ease the hard side: Ketu in the 4th house causes sudden changes at home, distance from the mother, and mysterious events in the household. |
| 5th house | Donate bananas and saffron items; feed stray dogs. | To ease the hard side: Ketu in the 5th house gives spiritual children but may cause stomach issues and confusion in education. |
| 6th house | Wear a gold ring on the left hand; drink milk with saffron; keep a dog. | To steady a placement Lal Kitab reads both ways: Ketu in the 6th house is in its pakka ghar, yet Lal Kitab reads it both ways. |
| 7th house | Feed dogs; donate grey blankets; keep a brown cloth in the bedroom. | To ease the hard side: Ketu in the 7th house causes mysterious problems in marriage; the spouse may be spiritual or detached. |
| 8th house | Feed stray dogs daily; donate blankets on Tuesdays. | To ease the hard side: Ketu in the 8th house causes sudden mysterious events, chronic diseases of unknown origin, and detachment from in-laws. |
| 9th house | Donate saffron items at a temple; feed stray dogs. | To keep the good strong: Ketu in the 9th house gives deep spiritual inclination, interest in moksha, and pilgrimages. |
| 10th house | Keep a pet dog or feed stray dogs; donate brown/grey items. | To ease the hard side: Ketu in the 10th house causes sudden career changes, detachment from authority, and an unconventional profession. |
| 11th house | Feed stray dogs; donate saffron and blankets. | To keep the good strong: Ketu in the 11th house gives spiritual gains, detachment from material desires, and elder siblings with a mystical bent. |
| 12th house | Feed stray dogs; keep a piece of saffron at your place of worship. | To keep the good strong: Ketu in the 12th house opens the way to moksha and spiritual liberation. |
Om Sraam Sreem Sraum Sah Ketave Namah (ॐ स्रां स्रीं स्रौं सः केतवे नमः), 17,000 times in all, at least 108 a day, on Tuesday.
A blanket and sesame, on Tuesday, to someone who needs it.
Lehsunia (Cat's Eye). Not everyone should: only when the lord of the rashi Ketu sits in is good for the lagna. Have the kundli checked first.
