A rashi is 30 degrees and the Moon crosses one in about two and a quarter days. A nakshatra is 13°20′ and a pada a quarter of that. Your nakshatra decides which graha your Vimshottari dasha starts with, and how far the Moon has gone through it decides how much of that dasha is left at birth. A rashi takes roughly two hours to rise, so one degree is about four minutes of clock time. An hour wrong in the birth time moves the lagna some fifteen degrees, which is half a rashi — the sign itself changes about half the time. Nothing else on this page is that sensitive.

Why is the Ascendant So Important?
The Lagna is the foundation of the entire birth chart. Every house in the horoscope is numbered starting from the Ascendant sign. How is the Ascendant Calculated?
Calculating the Ascendant requires three pieces of information: the date of birth, the exact time of birth (to the minute), and the geographical coordinates of the birth location. Using these inputs, the astronomical algorithm determines which degree of which zodiac sign was crossing the eastern horizon at that precise moment. Even a few minutes' difference in birth time can shift the Ascendant by several degrees, and in some cases, change the Ascendant sign entirely.
