What the texts say of Mars here
PhaladeepikaPhaladeepika 8.10 holds that Mangal (Mars) in the 12th house (the house of loss and expense) brings defects of the eyes and a harsh nature. The text adds a life without a spouse, a habit of slandering others, and mean conduct.
Brihat JatakaBJ 20.6 gives Mangal in the 12th the same result as the Sun there (20.3): a fall in standing.
Lal KitabMars in the 12th house causes hidden enemies, surgeries, and loss of money through disputes. Sleep may be disturbed.
Sign by sign: does it stand?
The engine’s verdict for Mars in this house in each sign, with nothing else in the chart helping or hurting

How often Mars sits in the 12th, and what happens then
Counted by running the engine over real births, four a week, 1960 to 1999, in four cities
Births with Mars in the 12th8.4%Of those, the dosha stands62%Of those, it is cancelled38%
Mars sat in the 12th house in 8.4% of 8,349 real births from 1960 to 1999. In 38% of those the cancellations took the dosha away; in 62% it stood. In 50% Mars was also in a dosha house counted from the Moon, which raises the grade a step. That is fewer than the sign table above suggests, because there the Moon is kept out of it: where the Moon raises the grade, one strong rule only lowers the dosha a step instead of cancelling it.
A real birth: 12 January 1985, 11:00, Lucknow. Pisces lagna, Mars in Aquarius in the 12th house, the 6th from the Moon. The dosha stands, mild, with nothing in the chart to ease it.
