Sade Sati 2027: Phase Dates for Kumbh, Meen, Mesh, Vrishabh

Sade Sati 2027 turns on three dates, not one. Shani (Saturn) moves from Meen into Mesh on 3 June 2027 at 5:28 AM, turns back into Meen on 20 October at 7:12 AM, and re-enters Mesh on 23 February 2028 at 7:24 PM. So Kumbh's Sade Sati seems to end in June but returns in October, and only truly ends on 23 February 2028.

Our Sade Sati page explains the three phases and shows which rashis are in it today, and the Sade Sati calculator gives the dates for your own Moon rashi. This article is about 2027: who starts, who ends, and why the October return matters.

Sade Sati 2027: the three dates that decide it

Sade Sati is Shani passing through three rashis counted from your Moon rashi: the one before it (your 12th house, expenses and faraway places), your Moon rashi itself (your 1st house), and the one after it (your 2nd house, money and family). In 2027 Shani crosses the line between Meen and Mesh three times, and every crossing changes someone's Sade Sati. Our Shani gochar 2027 page has every Shani date of the year for each rashi.

Date (IST)Shani movesWhat changes
3 June 2027, 5:28 AMMeen into MeshKumbh's Sade Sati pauses, Vrishabh's begins, Mesh reaches its peak, Meen enters its last phase
20 October 2027, 7:12 AMMesh back into MeenKumbh's Sade Sati returns, Vrishabh's pauses, Mesh and Meen step back a phase
23 February 2028, 7:24 PMMeen into Mesh againKumbh's Sade Sati ends for good; the June picture returns and holds

Between the first two dates Shani spends only 139 days in Mesh. Then it turns vakri (retrograde) on 9 August 2027 and moves backwards until 24 December 2027, which is what carries it back into Meen for 126 days.

Why Kumbh's Sade Sati ends twice

If your Moon rashi is Kumbh, your Sade Sati began on 24 January 2020 and its last phase, Shani in your 2nd house (money and family), has run since 29 March 2025. Shani leaves Meen on 3 June 2027, so for 139 days you are out of it. On 20 October 2027 Shani walks back into Meen and your 2nd house again, and your Sade Sati only truly ends on 23 February 2028.

Several pages print 3 June 2027 as the end of Kumbh's Sade Sati and stop there. That is the first exit, not the last. Counting Shani's real path, Kumbh is in Sade Sati on 226 days of 2027, and the whole stretch runs eight years and a month, from 24 January 2020 to 23 February 2028.

This has happened to Kumbh before, on the way in rather than the way out. In 2022 Shani entered Kumbh on 29 April, turned back into Makar on 12 July, and only came back for good on 17 January 2023. If 2022 felt like a step forward and a step back, this is the same movement at the other end of the Sade Sati.

Sade Sati 2027 for each rashi

Four Moon rashis are in Sade Sati at some point in 2027: Mesh and Meen all year, Kumbh until 3 June and again from 20 October, and Vrishabh from 3 June to 20 October. Every one of them changes phase twice in nine months.

Kumbh (Aquarius)

Your Sade Sati is almost over, but not on 3 June. Shani leaves your 2nd house (money and family) for 139 days and comes back on 20 October 2027 for a last 126 days, until 23 February 2028. Use the summer to finish what Shani's years have asked of you, and keep a big celebration or a big new loan for after 23 February 2028.

Meen (Pisces)

Shani has sat over your own Moon rashi, the peak of Sade Sati, since 29 March 2025. On 3 June 2027 it moves to your 2nd house (money and family), the gentler last phase, then returns over your Moon from 20 October to 23 February 2028. So the June to October stretch is the lighter window of the year, a good time for decisions about family money.

Mesh (Aries)

Your Sade Sati began on 29 March 2025 with Shani in your 12th house (expenses and faraway places). On 3 June 2027 Shani crosses into Mesh itself, your peak phase, for 139 days, then slips back into your 12th house until 23 February 2028, when the peak begins in earnest. With one more short step back in late 2029, the peak runs to 17 April 2030, and the last phase, Shani in your 2nd house (money and family), takes your Sade Sati to its end on 31 May 2032. The summer of 2027 is only a first taste of the peak.

Vrishabh (Taurus)

Your Sade Sati begins on 3 June 2027, when Shani enters Mesh, your 12th house (expenses and faraway places). It pauses on 20 October, because Shani goes back to Meen, your 11th house (gains), which is one of Shani's good houses. It resumes on 23 February 2028 and runs until 13 July 2034. Plan your expenses for the full seven years from June 2027; the 126-day pause is a breather inside them.

Which rashi is yours: Moon rashi, not lagna or sun sign

Sade Sati is counted from your Moon rashi, the rashi the Moon was in when you were born. It is not your lagna (the rashi rising at birth) and not the Western sun sign in a newspaper horoscope, which for most people falls in a different rashi. A person whose sun sign is Aquarius can easily have a Meen or Makar Moon, and their Sade Sati follows the Moon.

If your family has a kundli, the Moon rashi is the one marked beside the Moon (Chandra, "Ch"), and in many families it is also the rashi your name was chosen from. If not, our Moon rashi calculator gives it from the date, time and place of birth. Two people in one house can be in different years of the same Sade Sati, or one in it and one not, so check each person's Moon rashi before reading the dates above.

Dhaiyya in 2027: who leaves, who enters

Dhaiyya is Shani's two-and-a-half-year stay in the 4th house from your Moon (Kantaka Shani, home and mother) or the 8th house (Ashtama Shani, sudden change). It moves on the same three dates as Sade Sati, so four more rashis feel 2027's back-and-forth.

Moon rashiDhaiyya2027
Singh (Leo)Ashtama Shani: Shani in your 8th houseEnds 3 June, returns 20 October, ends for good 23 February 2028
Dhanu (Sagittarius)Kantaka Shani: Shani in your 4th houseEnds 3 June, returns 20 October, ends for good 23 February 2028
Kanya (Virgo)Ashtama Shani: Shani in your 8th houseBegins 3 June, pauses 20 October, resumes 23 February 2028, runs to 17 April 2030
Makar (Capricorn)Kantaka Shani: Shani in your 4th houseBegins 3 June, pauses 20 October, resumes 23 February 2028, runs to 17 April 2030

On any day of 2027, five of the twelve Moon rashis have Shani in a Sade Sati or dhaiyya house: three in Sade Sati and two in dhaiyya. Only which five changes.

What the texts say, and how we work it out

Phaladeepika, the classical text our gochar pages follow, counts Shani good in only three houses from the Moon, the 3rd, 6th and 11th, and we date each of Shani's crossings to the minute. The 12th, 1st and 2nd, the three houses of Sade Sati, are among those where it asks for care, and so are the 4th and 8th of the dhaiyya. Sade Sati is the later name for that seven-and-a-half-year run.

We work out the exact minute Shani crosses from one rashi into the next, in the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa, the one India's national calendar uses. Calendars that use another ayanamsa can print a different hour for the same move, which is why you may see 3 June 2027 with a time other than 5:28 AM. The date is the same.

What to do in 2027

The same steady upay suit every phase, and they are about patience and service, which is what Shani is said to ask for.

  • Mantra: "Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namah" 108 times on Saturday evening, or the beej mantra "Om Praam Preem Praum Sah Shanaishcharaya Namah". Shani is the graha of discipline, and a fixed practice on his own day is the traditional way to steady the mind through his years.
  • Saturday: a mustard-oil diya at a peepal tree in the evening, and a simple meal with urad dal or black sesame if you keep a fast.
  • Daan: black sesame, mustard oil, an iron vessel, a blanket or black cloth to someone who needs it, on Saturday. Shani is the graha of labour and of people who work hard for little, and giving to them is the oldest Shani upay there is.

For timing: Kumbh should keep big new commitments until after 23 February 2028; Vrishabh should plan the next seven years' expenses from June 2027, not after the October pause; Meen's easier window is 3 June to 20 October 2027.
