Mantra, daan, vrat, ratna, rudraksha and the Lal Kitab upay for Rahu in each bhava, each with the reason it is given.
These are suggestions, not prescriptions. The tradition turns to them when Rahu is weak or troubled in a kundli, or when its dasha or a hard transit is running. Your kundli says which applies to you.
The graha’s seed sound. Chanted with a steady count, it is the oldest way to strengthen what Rahu stands for: ambition, the new and the foreign. Begin on Saturday and keep the same time and count each day until the full count is done.
ॐ भ्रां भ्रीं भ्रौं सः राहवे नमः
Om Bhraam Bhreem Bhraum Sah Rahave Namah
A short mantra of Rahu’s own name, for those who would rather pray than count. The deity worshipped for Rahu is Goddess Durga.
ॐ राहवे नमः
Om Rahave Namah · 108 times
Give what belongs to Rahu, on its day, to someone who needs it. Lal Kitab and the Parashari tradition both count it the gentlest upay.
A fast on Saturday, kept for Durga or Kali, steadies the mind and eases Rahu’s troubles.
A ratna strengthens Rahu. A node rules no house, so its stone is judged by the rashi it sits in: it helps only when the lord of that rashi is good for your lagna. Wear it only after the kundli is checked.
A rudraksha carries none of a ratna’s risk; it is worn to keep Rahu calm and steady. A bead’s deity goes with its mukhi (the number of lines), so it can differ from the deity worshipped for Rahu above.
Lal Kitab gives a different upay for each bhava, because Rahu does different things from each. Use the one for the house it occupies in your kundli. A pakka ghar is the house Lal Kitab treats as a graha’s permanent home.
| Bhava | Upay | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1st house | Keep a silver ball; throw coconut in flowing water. | To ease the hard side: Rahu in the 1st house gives an unusual appearance, unconventional thinking, and foreign connections. |
| 2nd house | Keep a solid silver piece; throw coconut in flowing water on Saturdays. | To ease the hard side: Rahu in the 2nd house causes family instability, deceptive speech, and sudden financial ups and downs. |
| 3rd house | Keep sandalwood in the house; feed birds daily. | To keep the good strong: Rahu in the 3rd house gives courage for unconventional ventures, success in media, and foreign travel. |
| 4th house | Keep a silver pot of Ganga water at home; avoid living in a south-facing house. | To ease the hard side: Rahu in the 4th house causes sudden changes in residence, mental unrest, and health issues for the mother. |
| 5th house | Keep a piece of silver; donate radish on Saturdays. | To ease the hard side: Rahu in the 5th house creates confusion in education, unconventional children, and losses on risky investments. |
| 6th house | Keep a black dog or feed stray dogs; donate coal or black sesame. | To keep the good strong: Rahu in the 6th house gives victory over enemies through cunning, success in healing, and good health. |
| 7th house | Keep a silver elephant at home; throw coconut in flowing water. | To ease the hard side: Rahu in the 7th house can bring an unconventional marriage or a spouse from a different culture, and asks for care against deception in marriage. |
| 8th house | Keep barley under the pillow; throw coconut in flowing water. | To ease the hard side: Rahu in the 8th house can cause sudden accidents, hidden enemies, and chronic, hard-to-trace diseases. |
| 9th house | Apply a saffron tilak; wear gold; keep a dog for the children's sake; keep good relations with your in-laws. | To steady a placement Lal Kitab reads both ways: Rahu in the 9th house is a mixed placement in Lal Kitab. |
| 10th house | Keep a silver ball at the workplace; throw coconut in flowing water on Saturdays. | To keep the good strong: Rahu in the 10th house gives sudden career changes, success in politics or foreign companies, and fame. |
| 11th house | Feed birds and keep sandalwood at home. | To steady a placement Lal Kitab reads both ways: Rahu in the 11th house is a mixed placement in Lal Kitab. |
| 12th house | Eat your meals in the kitchen; keep fennel and sugar candy by the bed; keep a solid silver elephant. | To steady a placement Lal Kitab reads both ways: Rahu in the 12th house is in its pakka ghar, yet Lal Kitab reads it both ways: it works as Budh in the chart works. |

A coconut and black cloth, on Saturday, to someone who needs it.
Gomed (Hessonite). Not everyone should: only when the lord of the rashi Rahu sits in is good for the lagna. Have the kundli checked first.
