1st house
Phaladeepika 8.25 holds that Rahu in the lagna (the ascendant, 1st house) gives wealth and strength. The text also cautions about ailments of the head and face, and counts this among the placements that can shorten life. Phaladeepika 8.25
Where Rahu is strong and weak, the houses it looks at, what it does in each bhava, how a node is read for a lagna, and its upay.
Uchcha: the rashi where a graha is strongest; neech: where it is weakest. Moolatrikona: the rashi where it works most like itself, ranked just below uchcha. Drishti: the graha’s glance; the houses it looks at feel its influence. Mukhi: the number of natural lines on a rudraksha bead. Beej mantra: the graha’s seed sound, chanted with a count.
BPHS (47.34) gives Rahu Kumbh (Aquarius) as its own rashi, which it shares with Shani; some sages take Kanya (Virgo) instead. That co-lordship is not used to judge Rahu for a lagna: it is counted the lord of no house, and gives the results of the rashi it sits in and of that rashi’s lord.

Lal Kitab is a 20th-century, house-based system: it reads every kundli as if Mesh rose, so its "good" or "hard" is about the house, not about your lagna. Its pakka ghar is the house it treats as a graha’s permanent home. For what Rahu and Ketu mean for your own lagna, the rashi they sit in and its lord decide (see below). Lal Kitab and Parashara are two different systems, read side by side. Lal Kitab: pakka ghar, rin and upay
| Bhava | Lal Kitab | What it gives there |
|---|---|---|
| 1st house | Hard | Rahu in the 1st house gives an unusual appearance, unconventional thinking, and foreign connections. It may cause confusion. |
| 2nd house | Hard | Rahu in the 2nd house causes family instability, deceptive speech, and sudden financial ups and downs. |
| 3rd house | Good | Rahu in the 3rd house gives courage for unconventional ventures, success in media, and foreign travel. |
| 4th house | Hard | Rahu in the 4th house causes sudden changes in residence, mental unrest, and health issues for the mother. |
| 5th house | Hard | Rahu in the 5th house creates confusion in education, unconventional children, and losses on risky investments. |
| 6th house | Good | Rahu in the 6th house gives victory over enemies through cunning, success in healing, and good health. |
| 7th house | Hard | Rahu in the 7th house can bring an unconventional marriage or a spouse from a different culture, and asks for care against deception in marriage. |
| 8th house | Hard | Rahu in the 8th house can cause sudden accidents, hidden enemies, and chronic, hard-to-trace diseases. |
| 9th house | Mixed | Rahu in the 9th house is a mixed placement in Lal Kitab. It can unsettle faith, fortune and the children's luck, and it works well only while relations with brothers and sisters stay good; an interest in unusual paths of faith and in distant travel is common. |
| 10th house | Good | Rahu in the 10th house gives sudden career changes, success in politics or foreign companies, and fame. |
| 11th house | Mixed | Rahu in the 11th house is a mixed placement in Lal Kitab. It can bring sudden gains and friends abroad, but the text also warns that it can trouble the father and weaken what the other grahas give. |
| 12th house | Mixed | Rahu in the 12th house is in its pakka ghar, yet Lal Kitab reads it both ways: it works as Budh in the chart works. It can give settlement abroad and hidden strengths, but also broken sleep and spending, often on the women of the family. |
The old texts read one placement at a time and speak of a man; they apply to anyone. In a real kundli, the rashi Rahu sits in, the house’s lord and the grahas that join or look at it decide how much of each reading holds.
Phaladeepika 8.25 holds that Rahu in the lagna (the ascendant, 1st house) gives wealth and strength. The text also cautions about ailments of the head and face, and counts this among the placements that can shorten life. Phaladeepika 8.25
Phaladeepika 8.25 holds that Rahu in the 2nd house (the house of wealth and speech) makes speech doubtful or insincere, and the text cautions about ailments of the face. It also describes a soft heart, wealth gained through favour from government or those in power, and happiness. Phaladeepika 8.25
Phaladeepika 8.25 holds that Rahu in the 3rd house (the house of siblings and courage) makes a person proud and strong-willed, with a long life and wealth. The text also notes hostility with brothers. Phaladeepika 8.25

Phaladeepika 8.26 reads Rahu in the 7th house (the house of marriage and partnership) as a caution for married life. The text warns of loss of wealth through affairs outside marriage, separation from the beloved and loss of virility, and describes the person as headstrong and foolish. Phaladeepika 8.26

Phaladeepika 8.27 holds that Rahu in the 9th house (the house of fortune and dharma) makes a person contrary in speech. The text describes someone who leads their clan or community, or holds civic office, yet is drawn to unrighteous deeds. Phaladeepika 8.27
Phaladeepika 8.27 holds that Rahu in the 10th house (the house of career and status) brings fame and fearlessness. The text adds few children, a habit of busying oneself in others' affairs and a lack of good deeds. Phaladeepika 8.27

Rahu is counted the lord of no house, so no lagna makes it a benefic or a malefic by lordship. It gives the results of the bhava it sits in and of the lord of that rashi: where that lord is good for your lagna, Rahu leans good. That is why its page for each bhava matters more than for the other grahas. Parashara says the same: Rahu gives mostly the results of the bhava it sits in and of the bhava lord it joins (BPHS 34.16), and in a kendra (one of the four angles of the chart, the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th houses, where a graha acts with most force), joined or seen by the lord of a kendra or a trikona (the 1st, 5th and 9th houses, the houses of fortune), it becomes a yogakaraka, a graha that lifts the chart (34.17). The tradition’s “Shanivat Rahu” adds that Rahu acts like Shani; Phaladeepika says so too (8.34). With all seven other grahas between Rahu and Ketu, a kundli is read for Kaal Sarp dosha.
Gochar is a graha’s transit: the house Rahu is moving through now, counted from your Moon rashi. Phaladeepika counts Rahu’s transit good in the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th from the Moon; in the rest it asks for care. The third column is how our Monthly Prediction reads each house.

The kundli here takes Rahu as exalted in Vrishabh (Taurus) and debilitated in Vrishchik (Scorpio); texts differ on the nodes. Some texts give it Kumbh (Aquarius) as a shared rashi, but it is counted the lord of no house when it is read for a lagna.
Its ratna is Gomed (Hessonite) and its day is Saturday. Wear the ratna only after your kundli has been checked.
