Where Ardra pada 2 is
3°20′ of the zodiac, and what falls in itArdra pada 2 is the second 3°20′ of Ardra, 10°00′ Gemini – 13°20′ Gemini, in Gemini. A Moon here is named by the syllable Gha and falls in a Capricorn navamsa.
What this pada adds
its navamsa and its aimArdra in Brihat Jataka (16.3) Brihat Jataka is harsh on Ardra: it says a person born with the Moon here is insincere, quick to anger and ungrateful, troublesome to others and drawn to wrongdoing. (Chapter 16 reads several nakshatras in each verse, one after another.) The text reads the nakshatra as a whole; the pada refines it through its navamsa, below.
Ardra gives the Moon its nature through Rahu; pada 2 sends it into a Capricorn navamsa, ruled by Shani. The navamsa (D9) is the chart read for marriage and for the strength behind a placement, so in this pada Shani colours what Ardra gives.
By natural friendship Shani counts Rahu neutral, and Rahu counts Shani a friend, so the navamsa neither helps nor hinders much.
The pada tradition reads each quarter by its navamsa’s element: an earth navamsa makes this an Artha pada, turned towards livelihood, wealth and security.
