The fourth quarter of Mula: a Cancer navamsa, naam akshar Bhi, and a birth that starts in Ketu’s mahadasha with 1.8 years to almost none of it left.
Mula pada 4 is the fourth 3°20′ of Mula, 10°00′ Sagittarius – 13°20′ Sagittarius, in Sagittarius. A Moon here is named by the syllable Bhi and falls in a Cancer navamsa.
Gand Mool nakshatra. Mula is one of the six Gand Mool nakshatras; many families keep a Mool shanti for a birth in any of its padas, though the junction pada is read as the stronger.
Gand Mool are the six nakshatras on the seams where a water sign gives way to a fire sign: Ashwini, Magha and Mula, ruled by Ketu, and Ashlesha, Jyeshtha and Revati, ruled by Budh. The Mool shanti is traditionally done on the 27th day after birth, when the Moon returns to the birth nakshatra.
Mula in Brihat Jataka (16.10) Brihat Jataka says a person born with the Moon in Mula is proud, wealthy and happy, firm in their views, lives in comfort and does not wish harm on others. (Chapter 16 reads several nakshatras in each verse, one after another.) The text reads the nakshatra as a whole; the pada refines it through its navamsa, below.
Mula gives the Moon its nature through Ketu; pada 4 sends it into a Cancer navamsa, ruled by Chandra. The navamsa (D9) is the chart read for marriage and for the strength behind a placement, so in this pada Chandra colours what Mula gives.
By natural friendship Chandra counts Ketu neutral, and Ketu counts Chandra an enemy, so the two pull against each other and the pada asks for balance.
The pada tradition reads each quarter by its navamsa’s element: a water navamsa makes this a Moksha pada, turned towards release, inner life and letting go.

A Moon in Mula starts life in the mahadasha of Ketu, 7 years in all. How much is left at birth depends on how far the Moon had gone: at the start of pada 4 it is 1.8 years, at its end almost none.
