Mantra, daan, vrat, ratna, rudraksha and the Lal Kitab upay for Guru in each bhava, each with the reason it is given.
These are suggestions, not prescriptions. The tradition turns to them when Guru is weak or troubled in a kundli, or when its dasha or a hard transit is running. Your kundli says which applies to you.
The graha’s seed sound. Chanted with a steady count, it is the oldest way to strengthen what Guru stands for: wisdom, children, dharma and good fortune. Begin on Thursday and keep the same time and count each day until the full count is done.
ॐ ग्रां ग्रीं ग्रौं सः गुरवे नमः
Om Graam Greem Graum Sah Gurave Namah
A short mantra of Guru’s own name, for those who would rather pray than count. Guru is worshipped as Lord Brihaspati himself.
ॐ गुरवे नमः
Om Gurave Namah · 108 times
Give what belongs to Guru, on its day, to someone who needs it. Lal Kitab and the Parashari tradition both count it the gentlest upay.
A fast on Thursday, kept for Brihaspati or Vishnu, steadies the mind and eases Guru’s troubles.
A ratna strengthens Guru, so it helps only when Guru is good for your lagna, that is, when it rules houses that work well for that lagna. Wear it only after the kundli is checked: for some lagnas the same stone does harm.
A rudraksha carries none of a ratna’s risk; it is worn to keep Guru calm and steady. A bead’s deity goes with its mukhi (the number of lines), so it can differ from the deity worshipped for Guru above.
Lal Kitab gives a different upay for each bhava, because Guru does different things from each. Use the one for the house it occupies in your kundli. A pakka ghar is the house Lal Kitab treats as a graha’s permanent home.
| Bhava | Upay | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1st house | Apply saffron tilak on forehead; worship Lord Vishnu. | To keep the good strong: Jupiter in the 1st house gives a noble character, good health, long life, and spiritual nature. |
| 2nd house | Offer saffron at a temple; keep turmeric root in your pocket. | To keep the good strong: Jupiter in the 2nd house (pakka ghar) gives immense family wealth, sweet speech, and a generous nature. |
| 3rd house | Apply saffron tilak; donate bananas on Thursdays. | To ease the hard side: Jupiter in the 3rd house makes the person overly generous to siblings, and money can be lost through others. |
| 4th house | Apply saffron or turmeric tilak; offer bananas at a temple. | To keep the good strong: Jupiter in the 4th house gives property, vehicles, domestic happiness, and a mother's care. |
| 5th house | Donate turmeric and saffron on Thursdays. | To keep the good strong: Jupiter in the 5th house gives wise children, good fortune, and a spiritual inclination. |
| 6th house | Offer turmeric and saffron at a temple; feed bananas to the needy on Thursdays. | To ease the hard side: Jupiter in the 6th house causes trouble from enemies, liver and digestive issues, and debts. |
| 7th house | Apply turmeric tilak; treat your spouse with respect. | To keep the good strong: Jupiter in the 7th house gives a wise and supportive spouse. |
| 8th house | Offer turmeric at a temple; donate yellow items on Thursdays. | To ease the hard side: Jupiter in the 8th house causes obstacles in fortune, delayed results, and trouble through in-laws. |
| 9th house | Maintain a clean place of worship at home; apply saffron tilak daily. | To keep the good strong: Jupiter in the 9th house is excellent for luck, spirituality, pilgrimage, and higher education. |
| 10th house | Clean the nose before starting any work; float copper coins in flowing water for 43 days; apply a saffron tilak on the forehead; offer almonds at a religious place; do not set up a temple with idols at home. | To ease the hard side: Jupiter in the 10th house is in its house of debilitation in Lal Kitab, and its results depend on Saturn. |
| 11th house | Offer bananas and turmeric at a temple on Thursdays. | To keep the good strong: Jupiter in the 11th house gives gains from wise friends, elder siblings, and fulfilment of all desires. |
| 12th house | Apply turmeric tilak; donate yellow lentils on Thursdays. | To ease the hard side: Jupiter in the 12th house increases expenditure on charitable causes and foreign travel. |
