Jupiter mahadasha in the cycle
16 of 120 years. It follows Rahu (18 years) and comes before Saturn (19 years). You are born into it if the Moon was in Punarvasu, Vishakha or Purva Bhadrapada, the three nakshatras Jupiter rules.

The nine antardashas
Each runs for 16 × its own lord’s years ÷ 120. The longest is Jupiter–Venus, the shortest Jupiter–Sun; together they make up the 16 years.
A dasha year here is 365.25 days, the common modern convention; a panchang using a 360-day year will give slightly different dates, in the same ratio. Each length is rounded to the day.

Guru (Jupiter) antardasha
Goes well: BPHS gives authority over many who themselves hold power, great riches, honour from those in power, and livestock, clothes, jewellery and vehicles. It also gives the building of a new house and a fine home, prosperity and glory, the rise of fortune and success in ventures. It adds meetings with Brahmins and those in power, unusual gains from one's employer, and happiness from spouse and children.
Hard: BPHS warns of low company, great distress, slander from those who share the family property, and the anger of one's employer. It also warns of the danger of untimely death, separation from spouse and children, and loss of wealth and grain.
Caution: When Guru rules your 2nd or 7th house, BPHS warns of pain in the body.
Remedy: For relief from these troubles, and so that one's hopes are fulfilled, BPHS prescribes Rudra japa and reciting the Shiva Sahasranama (the thousand names of Shiva).
BPHS 56.1–7Shani (Saturn) antardasha
Goes well: BPHS gives a rise to authority, and gains of clothes, jewellery, wealth, grain, vehicles, livestock and position. It also gives happiness from one's son and friends, and especially the gain of a vehicle (the text names a blue horse). It adds a journey to the west, and a meeting with those in power from whom wealth is received.
Hard: BPHS warns of loss of wealth, fever, mental anguish, injury to spouse and children, and unhappy events at home. It also warns of loss of livestock and of employment, and friction with kinsmen.
Caution: When Shani rules the 2nd or 7th house, BPHS counts this sub-period maraka (a time the texts link with danger to life) and warns of the fear of untimely death.
Remedy: For relief from these troubles and for sound health, BPHS prescribes reciting the Vishnu Sahasranama (the thousand names of Vishnu) and giving a black cow or a female buffalo in charity.
BPHS 56.8–19Budh (Mercury) antardasha
Goes well: BPHS gives gains of wealth, ease of body, a rise to authority, and vehicles, clothes and livestock.
Hard: BPHS warns of more enemies, loss of comfort and enjoyment, losses in business, and fever and dysentery.
Caution: When Budh rules the 2nd or 7th house, BPHS counts this sub-period maraka (a time the texts link with danger to life) and warns that untimely death may be feared.
Remedy: For a longer life and relief from the other troubles, BPHS calls reciting the Vishnu Sahasranama (the thousand names of Vishnu) the most effective and helpful remedy.
BPHS 56.20–31Ketu antardasha
Goes well: BPHS gives moderate enjoyment and a moderate gain of wealth, but as a mixed result: under the same condition the verse also lists plain food or food given by others, food offered at death ceremonies, and money gained by undesirable means.
Hard: BPHS warns of loss of wealth through the anger of the authorities, imprisonment, illness, loss of physical strength, friction with father and brother, and mental anguish.
Caution: When Ketu sits in your 2nd or 7th house or is joined with the lords of those houses, BPHS warns of distress to the body.
Remedy: For relief from these troubles, BPHS prescribes the Mrityunjaya japa (the Mahamrityunjaya mantra, recited for health and long life), performed in the prescribed way.
BPHS 56.32–38Shukra (Venus) antardasha
Goes well: BPHS gives vehicles, wealth through the favour of those in power, enjoyment, gains of blue and red articles, and unusual income from journeys to the east. It also gives well-being in the family, happiness from parents, devotion to the deities, the building of water tanks, and charity.
Hard: BPHS warns of quarrels, friction with kinsmen, and distress to spouse and children.
Caution: When Shukra rules the 2nd or 7th house, BPHS counts this sub-period maraka (a time the texts link with danger to life).
Remedy: For relief from these troubles, BPHS prescribes giving a tawny (kapila) cow or a female buffalo in charity.
BPHS 56.39–50Surya (Sun) antardasha
Goes well: BPHS gives wealth, respect and happiness, and vehicles, clothes and jewellery. It also gives the birth of children, good relations with those in power, and success in ventures.
Hard: BPHS warns of nervous disorders, fever, laziness or reluctance to do good deeds, a pull towards wrongdoing, hostility towards everyone, separation from kinsmen and distress without cause.
Caution: When Surya rules the 2nd or 7th house, BPHS warns of distress to the body.
Remedy: For relief from these troubles and for good health, BPHS prescribes reciting the Aditya Hridaya (the hymn to Surya).
BPHS 56.51–57Chandra (Moon) antardasha
Goes well: BPHS gives honour from those in power, prosperity and glory, happiness from spouse and children, good food, and a good name earned through good deeds. It also gives more children and grandchildren, comforts through the favour of those in power, and a bent for religion and charity.
Hard: BPHS warns of loss of wealth and kinsmen, wandering in foreign lands, danger from the authorities and thieves, and quarrels with those who share the family property. It also warns of separation from a maternal uncle and distress to the mother.
Caution: When Chandra rules the 2nd or 7th house, BPHS warns of distress to the body.
Remedy: For relief from these troubles, BPHS prescribes reciting the Durga Saptashati.
BPHS 56.58–64Mangal (Mars) antardasha
Goes well: BPHS gives celebrations such as weddings, gain of land or property, growing strength and courage, and success in all ventures.
Hard: BPHS warns of loss of wealth and of one's house, eye trouble and other hardships.
Caution: When Mangal rules the 2nd or 7th house, BPHS warns of bodily distress and mental anguish.
Remedy: For relief from these troubles, and for gains of wealth and property, BPHS prescribes giving a bull in charity.
BPHS 56.65–71Rahu antardasha
Goes well: BPHS gives a pull towards the practice of yoga, gains of wealth and grain in its first five months, and authority over a village or a region. It also gives a meeting with a foreign dignitary, well-being in the family, journeys to distant lands and bathing at holy places.
Hard: BPHS warns of danger from thieves, snakes, the authorities and wounds, trouble in home affairs, and friction with siblings and those who share the family property. It also warns of bad dreams, quarrels without cause and the danger of illness.
Caution: When Rahu sits in the 2nd or 7th house, BPHS warns of distress to the body.
Remedy: For relief from these troubles, BPHS prescribes the Mrityunjaya japa (the Mahamrityunjaya mantra, recited for health and long life) and giving a goat in charity.

When it goes well
- When Guru (Jupiter) is exalted, in his own rashi or his mooltrikona (root sign of strength), in the 10th, 5th or 9th house, or in his own or exalted navamsha (the ninth-part division), BPHS gives a rise to authority, great happiness, recognition from the government, vehicles and clothes, devotion to the devtas and to Brahmins, happiness from spouse and children, and success in yajnas and religious rites.BPHS 47.45–48
- Even when Guru is afflicted as set out below, BPHS says the later part of his dasha brings good results: gain of wealth, and awards and recognition from the government.BPHS 47.49–51
When it is hard
- When Guru is in his debilitation rashi, combust, joined with malefics, or in the 6th or 8th house, BPHS warns of loss of one's home, anxiety, distress for the children and loss of cattle, and lists pilgrimage among the same results; it says these unfavourable results come at the start of the dasha only.BPHS 47.49–51
