What Guru gives in the 6th house by Lal Kitab and by Phaladeepika, its upay, the houses it looks at from there, and what it means for each lagna.
Jupiter in the 6th house causes trouble from enemies, liver and digestive issues, and debts. The support of teachers and elders is less.
Lal Kitab reads Guru in the 6th house by the house, not by your lagna; Parashara’s view for your own lagna is further down, and Phaladeepika and Brihat Jataka may differ. How Lal Kitab and Parashara differ · Lal Kitab: pakka ghar, rin and upay
Offer turmeric and saffron at a temple. Feed bananas to the needy on Thursdays.
This is Lal Kitab’s one upay for Guru in the 6th house, offered to ease its harder side; it is a suggestion, and your whole kundli may call for another. All upay for Guru
Phaladeepika 8.15 holds that Guru (Jupiter) in the 6th house (the house of enemies and disease) brings great inactivity and some disrespect, yet the power to defeat enemies. The text adds skill in mantras and in the rites that drive away harmful influences.
How much of this holds turns on the rest of the chart: the rashi Guru sits in, the 6th house’s lord and the grahas with it or looking at it. The old texts speak of a man; their readings apply to anyone.
BJ 20.7: Guru in the 6th gives freedom from enemies.
Its results show most in Guru’s own mahadasha (16 years) and in its antardashas inside the others. The 6th house’s matters also come forward in the periods of the house’s lord, which depends on your lagna.
Its drishti (a graha’s glance: the houses it looks at feel its influence) from the 6th, by the rules our kundli reading weighs houses with:
The 6th house, Ripu bhava, rules illness, debt, rivals, service and daily work; it is a dusthana (the 6th, 8th and 12th houses, the hard houses of illness, sudden events and loss) and an upachaya (the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th houses, which grow better with time and effort); its karaka (the graha that naturally signifies a house’s matters, whatever the lagna) is Mangal, Shani. The 6th house, and every graha in it
| Lagna | Guru sits in | Its state there | Lord of your | For this lagna |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Kanya (Virgo) | Enemy | 9th and 12th | Benefic |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Tula (Libra) | Enemy | 8th and 11th | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 8th and 11th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.23–24) |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Friendly | 7th and 10th | Malefic— lord of the 7th, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Chandra (34.25–26) |
| Kark (Cancer) | Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Own rashi | 6th and 9th | Benefic |
| Singh (Leo) | Makar (Capricorn) | Debilitated | 5th and 8th | Benefic |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Kumbh (Aquarius) | Neutral | 4th and 7th | Malefic— lord of the 7th, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Shukra (34.31–32) |
| Tula (Libra) | Meen (Pisces) | Own rashi | 3rd and 6th | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 3rd and 6th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.33–34) |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Mesh (Aries) | Friendly | 2nd and 5th | Benefic— lord of the 2nd, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Shukra (34.35–36) |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Vrishabh (Taurus) | Enemy | 1st and 4th | Neutral— the lagna lord, which the verse calls neutral (34.38) |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Mithun (Gemini) | Enemy | 3rd and 12th | Malefic |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Kark (Cancer) | Exalted | 2nd and 11th | Malefic · Maraka |
| Meen (Pisces) | Singh (Leo) | Friendly | 1st and 10th | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Mangal (34.44) |
The 6th is a dusthana, one of the hard houses. Where the table calls Guru a yogakaraka (the graha that brings yoga, success and standing, to a lagna: the best it can have) or a benefic for a lagna, sitting here it gives less than its lordship promises.
Guru’s state in each rashi, and the houses it rules for each lagna, as our free kundli reads them (BPHS chapter 34); each house links to what Parashara says of its lord sitting in the 6th. “Its state there” is how that rashi treats Guru: exalted, own, friendly, neutral (sam), enemy or debilitated. “For this lagna” is Parashara’s verdict on the houses it rules. The two answer different questions.
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
Take Mesh lagna. Guru sits in Kanya there (enemy) and rules your 9th and 12th houses, which makes it a benefic for Mesh lagna (BPHS 34). The two pull apart: the label says what it does for this lagna, the rashi how much strength it has to do it, so it gives less of that good than its label promises. The Lal Kitab reading above is the same for every lagna; this row is the part that changes with yours.
By Brihat Jataka 20.11, Guru in the 6th house gives its good in full for Kumbh lagna, half for Kark and Tula lagna, a quarter for Mithun, Vrishchik and Meen lagna, little for Mesh, Vrishabh, Dhanu and Makar lagna and none for Singh lagna, by the rashi it sits in. The verse gives no share for a neutral rashi, which is where it sits for Kanya lagna. BJ 20.10–11
Not the birth placement above: here Guru is moving through the 6th counted from your Moon rashi. Phaladeepika does not count the 6th among Guru’s good transit houses (all twelve, on the Guru page). Our Monthly Prediction reads it as challenging: rivals may grow; watch your health and your debts.
Lal Kitab counts it a hard placement; Guru does well in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th. By its rashi, it is strongest for Kark, Tula and Kumbh lagna; it is debilitated for Singh lagna.
Lal Kitab’s upay for it: Offer turmeric and saffron at a temple; feed bananas to the needy on Thursdays.
The 10th (career), 12th (expenses) and 2nd (money saved).
