What Guru gives in the 5th house by Lal Kitab and by Phaladeepika, its upay, the houses it looks at from there, and what it means for each lagna.
Jupiter in the 5th house gives wise children, good fortune, and a spiritual inclination. It is highly auspicious.
Lal Kitab reads Guru in the 5th house by the house, not by your lagna; Parashara’s view for your own lagna is further down, and Phaladeepika and Brihat Jataka may differ. How Lal Kitab and Parashara differ · Lal Kitab: pakka ghar, rin and upay

This is Lal Kitab’s one upay for Guru in the 5th house, to keep its good results strong; it is a suggestion, and your whole kundli may call for another. All upay for Guru
Phaladeepika 8.15 cautions that Guru (Jupiter) in the 5th house (the house of children and intellect) brings distress through children. The text also gives intelligence and a place as adviser to those in power.
How much of this holds turns on the rest of the chart: the rashi Guru sits in, the 5th house’s lord and the grahas with it or looking at it. The old texts speak of a man; their readings apply to anyone.
BJ 20.7: Guru in the 5th gives intelligence.
Its results show most in Guru’s own mahadasha (16 years) and in its antardashas inside the others. The 5th house’s matters also come forward in the periods of the house’s lord, which depends on your lagna.
Its drishti (a graha’s glance: the houses it looks at feel its influence) from the 5th, by the rules our kundli reading weighs houses with:
The 5th house, Putra bhava, rules children, study, intelligence and love affairs; it is a trikona (the 1st, 5th and 9th houses, the houses of fortune); its karaka (the graha that naturally signifies a house’s matters, whatever the lagna) is Guru. The 5th house, and every graha in it
| Lagna | Guru sits in | Its state there | Lord of your | For this lagna |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Singh (Leo) | Friendly | 9th and 12th | Benefic |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Kanya (Virgo) | Enemy | 8th and 11th | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 8th and 11th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.23–24) |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Tula (Libra) | Enemy | 7th and 10th | Malefic— lord of the 7th, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Chandra (34.25–26) |
| Kark (Cancer) | Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Friendly | 6th and 9th | Benefic |
| Singh (Leo) | Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Own rashi | 5th and 8th | Benefic |

| Tula (Libra) | Kumbh (Aquarius) | Neutral | 3rd and 6th | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 3rd and 6th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.33–34) |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Meen (Pisces) | Own rashi | 2nd and 5th | Benefic— lord of the 2nd, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Shukra (34.35–36) |

Guru’s state in each rashi, and the houses it rules for each lagna, as our free kundli reads them (BPHS chapter 34); each house links to what Parashara says of its lord sitting in the 5th. “Its state there” is how that rashi treats Guru: exalted, own, friendly, neutral (sam), enemy or debilitated. “For this lagna” is Parashara’s verdict on the houses it rules. The two answer different questions.
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
Take Singh lagna. Guru sits in Dhanu there (own rashi) and rules your 5th and 8th houses, which makes it a benefic for Singh lagna (BPHS 34). Both point the same way, a graha good for the lagna and strong in its rashi: the best this table holds. The Lal Kitab reading above is the same for every lagna; this row is the part that changes with yours.
By Brihat Jataka 20.11, Guru in the 5th house gives its good in full for Meen lagna, half for Singh and Vrishchik lagna, a quarter for Mesh, Kark and Dhanu lagna, little for Vrishabh, Mithun, Makar and Kumbh lagna and none for Kanya lagna, by the rashi it sits in. The verse gives no share for a neutral rashi, which is where it sits for Tula lagna. BJ 20.10–11
Not the birth placement above: here Guru is moving through the 5th counted from your Moon rashi. Phaladeepika counts the 5th among Guru’s good transit houses (all twelve, on the Guru page). Our Monthly Prediction reads it as very good: blessings through children, success in study, good luck, wisdom.
Lal Kitab counts it a good placement, one of the 7 houses where Guru does well (with the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 9th and 11th). By its rashi, it is strongest for Singh, Vrishchik and Meen lagna; it is debilitated for Kanya lagna.
Lal Kitab’s upay for it: Donate turmeric and saffron on Thursdays.
The 9th (luck), 11th (income) and 1st (self).
