What Guru gives in the 10th house by Lal Kitab and by Phaladeepika, its upay, the houses it looks at from there, and what it means for each lagna.
Jupiter in the 10th house is in its house of debilitation in Lal Kitab, and its results depend on Saturn. When Saturn is strong, or the Sun is in the 4th, the career rises well and luck often turns between 36 and 39. When Saturn is weak, money and ancestral support come slowly, and effort must be practical rather than idealistic.
In a kendra (one of the four angles of the chart, the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th houses, where a graha acts with most force), in Dhanu (Sagittarius), Meen (Pisces) or Kark (Cancer), Guru forms Hamsa Yoga, one of the five Pancha Mahapurusha (“great person”) yogas of Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. The table below marks the lagnas where that happens.
Lal Kitab reads Guru in the 10th house by the house, not by your lagna; Parashara’s view for your own lagna is further down, and Phaladeepika and Brihat Jataka may differ. How Lal Kitab and Parashara differ · Lal Kitab: pakka ghar, rin and upay
Clean the nose before starting any work. Float copper coins in flowing water for 43 days. Apply a saffron tilak on the forehead. Offer almonds at a religious place. Do not set up a temple with idols at home.
This is Lal Kitab’s one upay for Guru in the 10th house, offered to ease its harder side; it is a suggestion, and your whole kundli may call for another. All upay for Guru
Phaladeepika 8.16 holds that Guru (Jupiter) in the 10th house (the house of career and conduct) keeps a person on the right path and brings renown for their virtues. The text adds great wealth and the friendship of those in power.
How much of this holds turns on the rest of the chart: the rashi Guru sits in, the 10th house’s lord and the grahas with it or looking at it. The old texts speak of a man; their readings apply to anyone.
BJ 20.7: Guru in the 10th gives wealth.
Its results show most in Guru’s own mahadasha (16 years) and in its antardashas inside the others. The 10th house’s matters also come forward in the periods of the house’s lord, which depends on your lagna.
Its drishti (a graha’s glance: the houses it looks at feel its influence) from the 10th, by the rules our kundli reading weighs houses with:
The 10th house, Karma bhava, rules career, status, reputation and authority; it is a kendra and an upachaya (the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th houses, which grow better with time and effort); its karaka (the graha that naturally signifies a house’s matters, whatever the lagna) is Budh, Surya, Guru, Shani. The 10th house, and every graha in it
| Lagna | Guru sits in | Its state there | Lord of your | For this lagna |

| Mesh (Aries) | Makar (Capricorn) | Debilitated | 9th and 12th | Benefic |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Kumbh (Aquarius) | Neutral | 8th and 11th | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 8th and 11th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.23–24) |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Meen (Pisces) | Own rashi · Hamsa Yoga | 7th and 10th | Malefic— lord of the 7th, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Chandra (34.25–26) |

| Singh (Leo) | Vrishabh (Taurus) | Enemy | 5th and 8th | Benefic |

| Tula (Libra) | Kark (Cancer) | Exalted · Hamsa Yoga | 3rd and 6th | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 3rd and 6th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.33–34) |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Singh (Leo) | Friendly | 2nd and 5th | Benefic— lord of the 2nd, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Shukra (34.35–36) |

Guru’s state in each rashi, and the houses it rules for each lagna, as our free kundli reads them (BPHS chapter 34); each house links to what Parashara says of its lord sitting in the 10th. “Its state there” is how that rashi treats Guru: exalted, own, friendly, neutral (sam), enemy or debilitated. “For this lagna” is Parashara’s verdict on the houses it rules. The two answer different questions.
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
Take Mesh lagna. Guru sits in Makar there (debilitated) and rules your 9th and 12th houses, which makes it a benefic for Mesh lagna (BPHS 34). The two pull apart: the label says what it does for this lagna, the rashi how much strength it has to do it, so it gives less of that good than its label promises, unless a neecha bhanga (a cancelled debility) lifts it. The Lal Kitab reading above is the same for every lagna; this row is the part that changes with yours.
By Brihat Jataka 20.11, Guru in the 10th house gives its good in full for Tula lagna, half for Mithun and Meen lagna, a quarter for Kark, Vrishchik and Kumbh lagna, little for Singh, Kanya, Dhanu and Makar lagna and none for Mesh lagna, by the rashi it sits in. The verse gives no share for a neutral rashi, which is where it sits for Vrishabh lagna. BJ 20.10–11
Not the birth placement above: here Guru is moving through the 10th counted from your Moon rashi. Phaladeepika does not count the 10th among Guru’s good transit houses (all twelve, on the Guru page). Our Monthly Prediction reads it as mixed: career grows, but through effort and some challenges.
Lal Kitab counts it a hard placement; Guru does well in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th. By its rashi, it is strongest for Mithun, Tula and Meen lagna; it is debilitated for Mesh lagna.
Lal Kitab’s upay for it: Clean the nose before starting any work; float copper coins in flowing water for 43 days; apply a saffron tilak on the forehead; offer almonds at a religious place; do not set up a temple with idols at home.
The 2nd (money saved), 4th (mother) and 6th (illness).
