No dhaiyya right now · the next one starts in 2034
Dhaiyya (from dhai, two and a half), or small panoti, is Shani in the 4th (Kantaka Shani) or the 8th (Ashtama Shani) from your Moon rashi, about two and a half years each, longer when Shani turns back across the line. For Mesh, it comes when Shani is in Kark or in Vrishchik. Shani is in Meen now, the 12th from Mesh: that is Sade Sati for Mesh (Shani over your Moon sign and the signs either side, about seven and a half years), not a dhaiyya. It ends on 31 May 2032; Kantaka Shani then begins on 13 July 2034. For Mesh, both dhaiyyas fall in hard signs for Shani, Kark and Vrishchik. Heavier is not hopeless: the Saturday routine and the upay below are meant for exactly this.
Starts in 7 years 8 months · 13 July 2034
Also written Mesha, Mesham. Dhaiyya is also spelt dhaiya or dhaya; in the south, Kantaka Shani is called Ardhashtama Shani.
Kantaka means a thorn; Ashtama, the eighth. Each has its own dates, and when Shani leaves a sign for a few months and comes back, the window runs from first entry to final exit.
Kantaka Shani
Shani in Kark (Cancer), the 4th from your Moon
Next · 13 July 2034 to 27 August 2036
About 2 years 1 month. Shani enters Kark on 13 July 2034 and leaves it on 27 August 2036, without turning back. By the classical rule (Phaladeepika 26.25), its heaviest part comes when Shani is in the last third of Kark (20° to 30°): from 14 September 2035 until 23 February 2036 and from 1 June 2036 until 27 August 2036.
Last time: 6 September 2004 to 16 July 2007.
Ashtama Shani
Shani in Vrishchik (Scorpio), the 8th from your Moon
Later · 11 December 2043 to 8 December 2046
About 3 years. Shani enters Vrishchik on 11 December 2043 and leaves it for the last time on 8 December 2046. In between, it steps back into Tula from 23 June 2044 until 29 August 2044 (the dhaiyya pauses). By the classical rule (Phaladeepika 26.25), its heaviest part comes when Shani is in the last third of Vrishchik (20° to 30°): from 8 December 2045 until 8 December 2046.
Last time: 2 November 2014 to 26 October 2017.
Each reading rests on four things: the houses Shani rules counted from your Moon, the house it sits in, the three houses its gaze (drishti) falls on, and how comfortable Shani is in that sign, from exalted (uchcha, strongest) to debilitated (neecha, weakest). The rules are from Phaladeepika, Mantreswara’s classical Jyotish text.
Shani in an enemy’s sign: heavier
Kantaka Shani comes to a Mesh Moon when Shani is in Kark, the 4th house, and it touches home, mother, vehicles, property and peace of mind. For Mesh, Shani is lord of the 10th (career and standing) and the 11th (income and gains). So it brings work and earnings into the home. Long hours can take time from the family, or a job or income decision can be tied to a house or a move. Kark is an enemy sign for Shani, and Phaladeepika says at 26.32 that this sharpens the transit. For Shani in the 4th, Phaladeepika 26.22 warns of loss touching spouse, relatives and wealth.
From Kark, Shani’s drishti also falls on Kanya, Makar and Mesh: your 6th (work under pressure, rivals, debts and illness), your 10th (work, status and dealings with seniors) and your 1st (your own health, confidence and how others see you).
What to do A good step for Mesh is to keep office work out of the evenings at home, and to read any property or loan papers slowly before signing.
Shani in an enemy’s sign: heavier
Shani in Vrishchik stands 8th from a Mesh Moon, which makes it Ashtama Shani, the dhaiyya of health, sudden events, hidden matters, in-laws and inheritance. For Shani in the 8th, Phaladeepika 26.22 warns of losses touching children, friends and wealth, and of illness. Vrishchik, Mangal's other sign, is also hostile ground for Shani, so the rule that sharpens the Kantaka holds here too. As lord of your 10th (career and standing) and 11th (income and gains), Shani carries work and earnings into the 8th house. So a sudden change at work, an unplanned cost against income, or a question of inheritance may need attention.
From Vrishchik, Shani’s drishti also falls on Makar, Vrishabh and Singh: your 10th (work, status and dealings with seniors), your 2nd (family, savings and the way you speak) and your 5th (children, studies and judgement).
Phaladeepika 26.22 is a single verse for Shani in each of the first eight houses from the Moon, which is why both dhaiyyas cite it.
What to do Set a little aside for surprises at work, and keep money matters with friends in writing.
Shani’s Ashtakavarga points. The Ashtakavarga is a table of points (bindus) drawn from your birth chart. By Phaladeepika (26.41, 23.10), a transit goes easier through a sign where Shani holds many bindus (points) in your own chart: five or more of eight favours it, four is middling, fewer weigh more. Find Shani’s bindus in your chart.
The upay (remedies) families have kept through dhaiyya for generations. Free, and each with its reason.
Shani mantra · 108 times on Saturdays
ॐ शं शनैश्चराय नमः
Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namah
Shani’s short mantra, built on its seed syllable “Sham”. Saying it every week without fail is itself the discipline Shani asks for.
Neelam (blue sapphire) is not a general dhaiyya remedy. It suits some charts and harms others, so wear it only after your own kundli has been checked.
Beside the Saturday routine every rashi shares, this one suits Mesh in particular.
Mangal is your rashi lord, and Shani counts Mangal an enemy, so this dhaiyya presses on the drive and courage Mangal gives you. To steady Mangal, chant Om Mangalaya Namah, the mantra of Mangal, 108 times on Tuesdays; Tuesday is Mangal's own day, and Hanuman ji is worshipped on it too.
Your own kundli decides how it goes.

Take the site’s sample kundli: born 15 July 1990, 2:30 PM, in Mumbai. The Moon is in Meen, so its next dhaiyya is Kantaka Shani, Shani in Mithun, from 31 May 2032 to 13 July 2034, the same dates as for every Meen Moon. Four things make it this chart’s own.
Another Meen Moon shares these dates and almost none of the rest. Two Mesh Moons are the same: the dates on this page are theirs alike, and what they bring is not.
Every dhaiyya and Sade Sati for Mesh in order. Mesh is in Sade Sati now, until 31 May 2032. The dates are sidereal (Lahiri ayanamsa, the Government of India standard), which is one reason another site may differ.

Two rashis are in a dhaiyya at a time: the one whose 4th Shani is in, and the one whose 8th. When Shani spends a few months in the next sign and comes back, the dhaiyya moves to the next two rashis for those months and then returns.

No dhaiyya, but Sade Sati, which runs until 31 May 2032. Shani is in Meen now, the 12th from Mesh.
Kantaka Shani from 13 July 2034 to 27 August 2036; Ashtama Shani from 11 December 2043 to 8 December 2046.
Kantaka Shani is Shani in the 4th from the Moon, read for home, mother, property and peace of mind. Ashtama Shani is Shani in the 8th, read for health, sudden events and in-laws. For Mesh, Kantaka Shani is Shani in Kark, and Ashtama Shani is Shani in Vrishchik.
Both of Mesh’s dhaiyyas are among the heavier ones. Kantaka falls in Kark and Ashtama in Vrishchik, both signs of Shani’s enemies, which sharpens both (Phaladeepika 26.32), on top of the 8th’s own sharper warning (26.33). How much you feel it depends on your lagna (rising sign), your dasha and Shani’s bindus in your chart.
