Dhaiyya is running · Ashtama Shani
Dhaiyya (from dhai, two and a half), or small panoti, is Shani in the 4th (Kantaka Shani) or the 8th (Ashtama Shani) from your Moon rashi, about two and a half years each, longer when Shani turns back across the line. For Singh, it comes when Shani is in Vrishchik or in Meen. Shani is in Meen now, the 8th from Singh: Ashtama Shani is running. It pauses from 3 June 2027 until 19 October 2027, while Shani is in Mesh. For Singh, both weigh, for different reasons: Vrishchik is a hard sign for Shani, and the 8th carries its own warning.
1 year 3 months to go · ends 23 February 2028
Also written Simha, Simmam. Dhaiyya is also spelt dhaiya or dhaya; in the south, Kantaka Shani is called Ardhashtama Shani.
Kantaka means a thorn; Ashtama, the eighth. Each has its own dates, and when Shani leaves a sign for a few months and comes back, the window runs from first entry to final exit.
Ashtama Shani
Shani in Meen (Pisces), the 8th from your Moon
Running now · until 23 February 2028
About 2 years 11 months. Shani entered Meen on 29 March 2025 and leaves it for the last time on 23 February 2028. In between, it moves on into Mesh from 3 June 2027 until 19 October 2027 (the dhaiyya pauses). By the classical rule (Phaladeepika 26.25), its heaviest part comes when Shani is in the last third of Meen (20° to 30°): from 11 March 2027 until 3 June 2027 and from 20 October 2027 until 23 February 2028.
Last time: 2 June 1995 to 17 April 1998.
Kantaka Shani
Shani in Vrishchik (Scorpio), the 4th from your Moon
Later · 11 December 2043 to 8 December 2046
About 3 years. Shani enters Vrishchik on 11 December 2043 and leaves it for the last time on 8 December 2046. In between, it steps back into Tula from 23 June 2044 until 29 August 2044 (the dhaiyya pauses). By the classical rule (Phaladeepika 26.25), its heaviest part comes when Shani is in the last third of Vrishchik (20° to 30°): from 8 December 2045 until 8 December 2046.
Last time: 2 November 2014 to 26 October 2017.
Shani has been in Meen, the 8th from a Singh Moon, since 29 March 2025, and this Ashtama stretch runs until 23 February 2028. Its main themes are health, shared money and the spouse's side of the family. The weight is greatest from 11 March to 3 June 2027 and again from 20 October 2027 to the end, when Shani is in the last third of Meen (Phaladeepika 26.25). In between, Shani moves on into Mesh and the dhaiyya lifts for four and a half months. If a big joint step, such as a business partnership or a family function, can be moved, place it in this June–October 2027 pause.
Each reading rests on four things: the houses Shani rules counted from your Moon, the house it sits in, the three houses its gaze (drishti) falls on, and how comfortable Shani is in that sign, from exalted (uchcha, strongest) to debilitated (neecha, weakest). The rules are from Phaladeepika, Mantreswara’s classical Jyotish text.
Shani in a neutral sign
When Shani reaches Meen, the 8th house from a Singh Moon, it becomes Ashtama Shani, the dhaiyya of health, sudden events, hidden matters, in-laws and inheritance. Because Shani rules your 6th (work pressure, rivals, debts, illness) and 7th (marriage and partners), partnership and work-pressure matters come into the 8th house. Meen is a neutral sign for Shani, so the weight is neither eased nor sharpened. For Shani in the 8th, Phaladeepika 26.22 warns of losses touching children, friends and wealth, and of illness.
From Meen, Shani’s drishti also falls on Vrishabh, Kanya and Dhanu: your 10th (work, status and dealings with seniors), your 2nd (family, savings and the way you speak) and your 5th (children, studies and judgement).
Phaladeepika 26.22 is a single verse for Shani in each of the first eight houses from the Moon, which is why both dhaiyyas cite it.
What to do Before any business partnership, put the terms in a written agreement; keep up regular health check-ups, and keep talks with in-laws calm.
Shani in an enemy’s sign: heavier
A loan on a house or vehicle, strain from work, and the give-and-take of marriage can all reach the home for a Singh Moon when Shani is in Vrishchik, the 4th house. This Kantaka Shani touches home, mother, vehicles, property and peace of mind. It brings these matters because Shani is lord of your 6th (work pressure, rivals, debts, illness) and 7th (marriage and partners). Vrishchik is an enemy sign for Shani, and Phaladeepika says at 26.32 that an enemy sign sharpens the transit. Phaladeepika 26.22 also warns, for Shani in the 4th, of loss touching spouse, relatives and wealth.
From Vrishchik, Shani’s drishti also falls on Makar, Vrishabh and Singh: your 6th (work under pressure, rivals, debts and illness), your 10th (work, status and dealings with seniors) and your 1st (your own health, confidence and how others see you).
What to do Do not take a large home loan in a hurry, check property and vehicle papers twice, and give your spouse and your mother an unhurried hour of talk each week.
Shani’s Ashtakavarga points. The Ashtakavarga is a table of points (bindus) drawn from your birth chart. By Phaladeepika (26.41, 23.10), a transit goes easier through a sign where Shani holds many bindus (points) in your own chart: five or more of eight favours it, four is middling, fewer weigh more. Find Shani’s bindus in your chart.
The upay (remedies) families have kept through dhaiyya for generations. Free, and each with its reason.
Shani mantra · 108 times on Saturdays
ॐ शं शनैश्चराय नमः
Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namah
Shani’s short mantra, built on its seed syllable “Sham”. Saying it every week without fail is itself the discipline Shani asks for.
Neelam (blue sapphire) is not a general dhaiyya remedy. It suits some charts and harms others, so wear it only after your own kundli has been checked.
Beside the Saturday routine every rashi shares, this one suits Singh in particular.
Surya, your rashi lord, and Shani count each other enemies, so this dhaiyya presses on Surya's confidence and standing; offering water to the rising Sun with Om Suryaya Namah, or reciting the Aditya Hridayam, a hymn to Surya, on Sundays, gives Surya strength. On Sundays at sunrise, give wheat and jaggery at a temple or to someone in need, the daan (charity) tradition sets for Surya.
Your own kundli decides how it goes.

Take the site’s sample kundli: born 15 July 1990, 2:30 PM, in Mumbai. The Moon is in Meen, so its next dhaiyya is Kantaka Shani, Shani in Mithun, from 31 May 2032 to 13 July 2034, the same dates as for every Meen Moon. Four things make it this chart’s own.
Another Meen Moon shares these dates and almost none of the rest. Two Singh Moons are the same: the dates on this page are theirs alike, and what they bring is not.
Every dhaiyya and Sade Sati for Singh in order. Singh’s next Sade Sati runs from 13 July 2034 to 26 September 2041. The dates are sidereal (Lahiri ayanamsa, the Government of India standard), which is one reason another site may differ.

Two rashis are in a dhaiyya at a time: the one whose 4th Shani is in, and the one whose 8th. When Shani spends a few months in the next sign and comes back, the dhaiyya moves to the next two rashis for those months and then returns.

Yes. Ashtama Shani runs from 29 March 2025 until 23 February 2028, with a break while Shani is away (dates above).
Ashtama Shani is running now, until 23 February 2028; Kantaka Shani from 11 December 2043 to 8 December 2046.
Kantaka Shani is Shani in the 4th from the Moon, read for home, mother, property and peace of mind. Ashtama Shani is Shani in the 8th, read for health, sudden events and in-laws. For Singh, Kantaka Shani is Shani in Vrishchik, and Ashtama Shani is Shani in Meen.
Both weigh, for different reasons. Kantaka Shani falls in Vrishchik (an enemy’s sign for Shani), which sharpens it (Phaladeepika 26.32). Ashtama Shani falls in Meen (a neutral sign for Shani), which neither eases it nor adds to it; the 8th itself is among the houses of Shani’s sharpest warning (Phaladeepika 26.33). How much you feel it depends on your lagna (rising sign), your dasha and Shani’s bindus in your chart.
