No dhaiyya right now · the next one starts in 2027
Dhaiyya (from dhai, two and a half), or small panoti, is Shani in the 4th (Kantaka Shani) or the 8th (Ashtama Shani) from your Moon rashi, about two and a half years each, longer when Shani turns back across the line. For Kanya, it comes when Shani is in Dhanu or in Mesh. Shani is in Meen now, the 7th from Kanya, so neither dhaiyya is running. For Kanya, the two are not equal: Ashtama Shani, in Mesh, is the heavier.
Starts in 7 months · 3 June 2027
Also written Kanni. Dhaiyya is also spelt dhaiya or dhaya; in the south, Kantaka Shani is called Ardhashtama Shani.
Kantaka means a thorn; Ashtama, the eighth. Each has its own dates, and when Shani leaves a sign for a few months and comes back, the window runs from first entry to final exit.
Ashtama Shani
Shani in Mesh (Aries), the 8th from your Moon
Next · 3 June 2027 to 17 April 2030
About 2 years 10 months. Shani enters Mesh on 3 June 2027 and leaves it for the last time on 17 April 2030. In between, it steps back into Meen from 20 October 2027 until 22 February 2028 (the dhaiyya pauses) and moves on into Vrishabh from 8 August 2029 until 4 October 2029 (the dhaiyya pauses). By the classical rule (Phaladeepika 26.25), its heaviest part comes when Shani is in the last third of Mesh (20° to 30°): from 3 May 2029 until 8 August 2029 and from 5 October 2029 until 17 April 2030.
Last time: 17 April 1998 to 7 June 2000.
Kantaka Shani
Shani in Dhanu (Sagittarius), the 4th from your Moon
Later · 8 December 2046 to 4 December 2049
About 3 years. Shani enters Dhanu on 8 December 2046 and leaves it for the last time on 4 December 2049. In between, it moves on into Makar from 6 March 2049 until 9 July 2049 (the dhaiyya pauses). By the classical rule (Phaladeepika 26.25), its heaviest part comes when Shani is in the last third of Dhanu (20° to 30°): from 12 March 2048 until 7 June 2048, from 6 December 2048 until 6 March 2049 and from 10 July 2049 until 4 December 2049.
Last time: 26 January 2017 to 24 January 2020.
Shani enters Mesh, the 8th from a Kanya Moon, on 3 June 2027, and this Ashtama stretch runs until 17 April 2030. Its themes are health, debts and the children's needs. The first visit is short: on 20 October 2027 Shani steps back into Meen and the dhaiyya pauses until 22 February 2028, and it breaks once more from 8 August to 4 October 2029, while Shani is in Vrishabh. The weight is greatest at the end, from 3 May to 8 August 2029 and again from 5 October 2029 to 17 April 2030, when Shani is in the last third of Mesh (Phaladeepika 26.25). If a large planned cost, such as a child's higher studies, can be timed, place it in that pause from 20 October 2027 to 22 February 2028, while Shani is back in Meen.
Each reading rests on four things: the houses Shani rules counted from your Moon, the house it sits in, the three houses its gaze (drishti) falls on, and how comfortable Shani is in that sign, from exalted (uchcha, strongest) to debilitated (neecha, weakest). The rules are from Phaladeepika, Mantreswara’s classical Jyotish text.
Shani at its weakest: the hardest stretch
Ashtama Shani, the dhaiyya of health, sudden events, hidden matters, in-laws and inheritance, comes to a Kanya Moon when Shani is in Mesh, the 8th house. Mesh is Shani's sign of debilitation, which Phaladeepika 26.32 says sharpens the transit. Shani owns your 5th (children, studies) and 6th (work pressure, rivals, debts, illness). So it brings children's matters, illness and debt into the 8th house. These are the same matters Phaladeepika 26.22 names when it warns, for Shani in the 8th, of losses touching children, friends and wealth, and of illness.
From Mesh, Shani’s drishti also falls on Mithun, Tula and Makar: your 10th (work, status and dealings with seniors), your 2nd (family, savings and the way you speak) and your 5th (children, studies and judgement).
Phaladeepika 26.22 is a single verse for Shani in each of the first eight houses from the Moon, which is why both dhaiyyas cite it.
What to do While it runs, do not stand guarantor for a friend's or relative's debt.
Shani in a neutral sign
Shani in Dhanu is 4th from a Kanya Moon, in a sign that is neutral for it, so its weight is neither eased nor sharpened. Here it is Kantaka Shani, touching home, mother, vehicles, property and peace of mind. For Shani in the 4th, Phaladeepika 26.22 warns of loss touching spouse, relatives and wealth. Shani's lordship of your 5th (children, studies, intelligence) and 6th (work pressure, rivals, debts, illness) means the children's schooling, a debt on the house, or a lingering illness can weigh on the home and on the mind.
From Dhanu, Shani’s drishti also falls on Kumbh, Mithun and Kanya: your 6th (work under pressure, rivals, debts and illness), your 10th (work, status and dealings with seniors) and your 1st (your own health, confidence and how others see you).
What to do Give the children a quiet corner and a fixed routine for study at home, and pay down household debts in steady instalments.
Shani’s Ashtakavarga points. The Ashtakavarga is a table of points (bindus) drawn from your birth chart. By Phaladeepika (26.41, 23.10), a transit goes easier through a sign where Shani holds many bindus (points) in your own chart: five or more of eight favours it, four is middling, fewer weigh more. Find Shani’s bindus in your chart.
The upay (remedies) families have kept through dhaiyya for generations. Free, and each with its reason.
Shani mantra · 108 times on Saturdays
ॐ शं शनैश्चराय नमः
Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namah
Shani’s short mantra, built on its seed syllable “Sham”. Saying it every week without fail is itself the discipline Shani asks for.
Neelam (blue sapphire) is not a general dhaiyya remedy. It suits some charts and harms others, so wear it only after your own kundli has been checked.
Beside the Saturday routine every rashi shares, this one suits Kanya in particular.
Shani counts Budh, your rashi lord, a friend, and rules your 5th and 6th, so the best upay keeps the mind clear for children and debts: recite Om Budhaya Namah 108 times on Wednesdays and worship Lord Vishnu, Budh's deity. On Saturdays, the Shani Chalisa adds steadiness from Shani's own side.
Your own kundli decides how it goes.

Take the site’s sample kundli: born 15 July 1990, 2:30 PM, in Mumbai. The Moon is in Meen, so its next dhaiyya is Kantaka Shani, Shani in Mithun, from 31 May 2032 to 13 July 2034, the same dates as for every Meen Moon. Four things make it this chart’s own.
Another Meen Moon shares these dates and almost none of the rest. Two Kanya Moons are the same: the dates on this page are theirs alike, and what they bring is not.
Every dhaiyya and Sade Sati for Kanya in order. Kanya’s next Sade Sati runs from 27 August 2036 to 30 August 2044. The dates are sidereal (Lahiri ayanamsa, the Government of India standard), which is one reason another site may differ.

Two rashis are in a dhaiyya at a time: the one whose 4th Shani is in, and the one whose 8th. When Shani spends a few months in the next sign and comes back, the dhaiyya moves to the next two rashis for those months and then returns.

No. Shani is in Meen, the 7th from Kanya; dhaiyya is Shani in the 4th or 8th.
Ashtama Shani from 3 June 2027 to 17 April 2030; Kantaka Shani from 8 December 2046 to 4 December 2049.
Kantaka Shani is Shani in the 4th from the Moon, read for home, mother, property and peace of mind. Ashtama Shani is Shani in the 8th, read for health, sudden events and in-laws. For Kanya, Kantaka Shani is Shani in Dhanu, and Ashtama Shani is Shani in Mesh.
Not equally: Ashtama Shani is the heavier of the two. Kantaka Shani falls in Dhanu (a neutral sign for Shani), which neither eases it nor adds to it. Ashtama Shani falls in Mesh (where Shani is debilitated), which sharpens it (Phaladeepika 26.32), on top of the 8th’s own sharper warning (26.33). How much you feel it depends on your lagna (rising sign), your dasha and Shani’s bindus in your chart.
