No dhaiyya right now · the next one starts in 2038
Dhaiyya (from dhai, two and a half), or small panoti, is Shani in the 4th (Kantaka Shani) or the 8th (Ashtama Shani) from your Moon rashi, about two and a half years each, longer when Shani turns back across the line. For Mithun, it comes when Shani is in Kanya or in Makar. Shani is in Meen now, the 10th from Mithun, so neither dhaiyya is running. Mithun’s Sade Sati begins on 8 August 2029, with a break from 5 October 2029 until 16 April 2030. For Mithun, both dhaiyyas fall in signs where Shani is at ease, Kanya and Makar, which keeps them lighter than in an enemy’s sign.
Starts in 11 years 11 months · 22 October 2038
Also written Mithuna, Mithunam. Dhaiyya is also spelt dhaiya or dhaya; in the south, Kantaka Shani is called Ardhashtama Shani.
Kantaka means a thorn; Ashtama, the eighth. Each has its own dates, and when Shani leaves a sign for a few months and comes back, the window runs from first entry to final exit.
Kantaka Shani
Shani in Kanya (Virgo), the 4th from your Moon
Next · 22 October 2038 to 26 September 2041
About 2 years 11 months. Shani enters Kanya on 22 October 2038 and leaves it for the last time on 26 September 2041. In between, it steps back into Singh from 5 April 2039 until 12 July 2039 (the dhaiyya pauses) and moves on into Tula from 28 January 2041 until 5 February 2041 (the dhaiyya pauses). By the classical rule (Phaladeepika 26.25), its heaviest part comes when Shani is in the last third of Kanya (20° to 30°): from 2 October 2040 until 28 January 2041 and from 6 February 2041 until 26 September 2041.
Last time: 10 September 2009 to 4 August 2012.
Ashtama Shani
Shani in Makar (Capricorn), the 8th from your Moon
Later · 6 March 2049 to 25 February 2052
About 3 years. Shani enters Makar on 6 March 2049 and leaves it for the last time on 25 February 2052. In between, it steps back into Dhanu from 10 July 2049 until 3 December 2049 (the dhaiyya pauses). By the classical rule (Phaladeepika 26.25), its heaviest part comes when Shani is in the last third of Makar (20° to 30°): from 28 February 2051 until 20 September 2051 and from 15 November 2051 until 25 February 2052.
Last time: 24 January 2020 to 17 January 2023.
Each reading rests on four things: the houses Shani rules counted from your Moon, the house it sits in, the three houses its gaze (drishti) falls on, and how comfortable Shani is in that sign, from exalted (uchcha, strongest) to debilitated (neecha, weakest). The rules are from Phaladeepika, Mantreswara’s classical Jyotish text.
Shani in a friend’s sign: at ease
Shani in Kanya, the 4th house from a Mithun Moon, makes Kantaka Shani, which touches home, mother, vehicles, property and peace of mind. Kanya is a friend's sign for Shani, so this dhaiyya runs lighter than it would in an enemy's sign. Even so, Phaladeepika 26.22 warns of loss touching spouse, relatives and wealth for Shani in the 4th. For Mithun, Shani is lord of the 8th (sudden events, in-laws, inheritance) and the 9th (father, fortune, faith). So inherited property, in-laws or a father's affairs can come into the home and weigh on the mind.
From Kanya, Shani’s drishti also falls on Vrishchik, Meen and Mithun: your 6th (work under pressure, rivals, debts and illness), your 10th (work, status and dealings with seniors) and your 1st (your own health, confidence and how others see you).
What to do Keep visits with in-laws easy and unhurried, and lend your father a hand with his affairs when he needs it.
Shani in its own sign: steadier
Shani owns the 8th and the 9th (father, fortune, faith) for a Mithun Moon. So when it moves into Makar, the 8th house, the lord of the 8th sits in its own house. This is Ashtama Shani, the dhaiyya of health, sudden events, hidden matters, in-laws and inheritance. For Mithun, the father's side of the family comes into it as well. Phaladeepika (26.31) says Shani in its own sign does no harm, but the 8th is among the houses of Shani’s sharpest warning (Phaladeepika 26.33). Phaladeepika 26.22 warns, for Shani in the 8th, of losses touching children, friends and wealth, and of illness. For Mithun, read that warning as much lighter, not as nothing.
From Makar, Shani’s drishti also falls on Meen, Kark and Tula: your 10th (work, status and dealings with seniors), your 2nd (family, savings and the way you speak) and your 5th (children, studies and judgement).
Phaladeepika 26.22 is a single verse for Shani in each of the first eight houses from the Moon, which is why both dhaiyyas cite it.
What to do Keep up routine health check-ups, and give time to your father's side of the family when it needs you.
Shani’s Ashtakavarga points. The Ashtakavarga is a table of points (bindus) drawn from your birth chart. By Phaladeepika (26.41, 23.10), a transit goes easier through a sign where Shani holds many bindus (points) in your own chart: five or more of eight favours it, four is middling, fewer weigh more. Find Shani’s bindus in your chart.
The upay (remedies) families have kept through dhaiyya for generations. Free, and each with its reason.
Shani mantra · 108 times on Saturdays
ॐ शं शनैश्चराय नमः
Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namah
Shani’s short mantra, built on its seed syllable “Sham”. Saying it every week without fail is itself the discipline Shani asks for.
Neelam (blue sapphire) is not a general dhaiyya remedy. It suits some charts and harms others, so wear it only after your own kundli has been checked.
Beside the Saturday routine every rashi shares, this one suits Mithun in particular.
Budh, your rashi lord, is a friend of Shani, so strengthening Budh eases the dhaiyya from within: on Wednesdays recite the Vishnu Sahasranama (the thousand names of Vishnu), since Lord Vishnu is Budh's deity. On the same day, give green moong to a student or at a Vishnu temple, the daan (charity) tradition sets for Budh.
Your own kundli decides how it goes.

Take the site’s sample kundli: born 15 July 1990, 2:30 PM, in Mumbai. The Moon is in Meen, so its next dhaiyya is Kantaka Shani, Shani in Mithun, from 31 May 2032 to 13 July 2034, the same dates as for every Meen Moon. Four things make it this chart’s own.
Another Meen Moon shares these dates and almost none of the rest. Two Mithun Moons are the same: the dates on this page are theirs alike, and what they bring is not.
Every dhaiyya and Sade Sati for Mithun in order. Mithun’s next Sade Sati runs from 8 August 2029 to 27 August 2036. The dates are sidereal (Lahiri ayanamsa, the Government of India standard), which is one reason another site may differ.

Two rashis are in a dhaiyya at a time: the one whose 4th Shani is in, and the one whose 8th. When Shani spends a few months in the next sign and comes back, the dhaiyya moves to the next two rashis for those months and then returns.

No. Shani is in Meen, the 10th from Mithun; dhaiyya is Shani in the 4th or 8th.
Kantaka Shani from 22 October 2038 to 26 September 2041; Ashtama Shani from 6 March 2049 to 25 February 2052.
Kantaka Shani is Shani in the 4th from the Moon, read for home, mother, property and peace of mind. Ashtama Shani is Shani in the 8th, read for health, sudden events and in-laws. For Mithun, Kantaka Shani is Shani in Kanya, and Ashtama Shani is Shani in Makar.
Both weigh, for different reasons. Kantaka Shani falls in Kanya (a friend’s sign for Shani), which keeps it lighter than an enemy’s sign would. Ashtama Shani falls in Makar (Shani’s own sign), which does no harm (Phaladeepika 26.31); but the 8th is among the houses of Shani’s sharpest warning (Phaladeepika 26.33), so read it as much lighter, not as nothing. How much you feel it depends on your lagna (rising sign), your dasha and Shani’s bindus in your chart.
The free ones on this page: the Saturday routine every rashi shares (the Shani mantra, the Hanuman Chalisa, a diya under a pipal, seva for workers and elders), and the one that suits Mithun in particular, with its reason. Wear blue sapphire only after your own kundli has been checked.
What a dhaiyya brings is read from your whole chart: your lagna, your dasha and where Shani sits.
