Dhaiyya is running · Kantaka Shani
Dhaiyya (from dhai, two and a half), or small panoti, is Shani in the 4th (Kantaka Shani) or the 8th (Ashtama Shani) from your Moon rashi, about two and a half years each, longer when Shani turns back across the line. For Dhanu, it comes when Shani is in Meen or in Kark. Shani is in Meen now, the 4th from Dhanu: Kantaka Shani is running. It pauses from 3 June 2027 until 19 October 2027, while Shani is in Mesh. For Dhanu, the two are not equal: Ashtama Shani, in Kark, is the heavier.
1 year 3 months to go · ends 23 February 2028
Also written Dhanus, Dhanusu. Dhaiyya is also spelt dhaiya or dhaya; in the south, Kantaka Shani is called Ardhashtama Shani.
Kantaka means a thorn; Ashtama, the eighth. Each has its own dates, and when Shani leaves a sign for a few months and comes back, the window runs from first entry to final exit.
Kantaka Shani
Shani in Meen (Pisces), the 4th from your Moon
Running now · until 23 February 2028
About 2 years 11 months. Shani entered Meen on 29 March 2025 and leaves it for the last time on 23 February 2028. In between, it moves on into Mesh from 3 June 2027 until 19 October 2027 (the dhaiyya pauses). By the classical rule (Phaladeepika 26.25), its heaviest part comes when Shani is in the last third of Meen (20° to 30°): from 11 March 2027 until 3 June 2027 and from 20 October 2027 until 23 February 2028.
Last time: 2 June 1995 to 17 April 1998.
Ashtama Shani
Shani in Kark (Cancer), the 8th from your Moon
Later · 13 July 2034 to 27 August 2036
About 2 years 1 month. Shani enters Kark on 13 July 2034 and leaves it on 27 August 2036, without turning back. By the classical rule (Phaladeepika 26.25), its heaviest part comes when Shani is in the last third of Kark (20° to 30°): from 14 September 2035 until 23 February 2036 and from 1 June 2036 until 27 August 2036.
Last time: 6 September 2004 to 16 July 2007.
Since 29 March 2025 Shani has been in Meen, the 4th from a Dhanu Moon, and this Kantaka stretch lasts until 23 February 2028. It centres on the home: the house itself, a mother's needs and the family's savings. The heavy months are 11 March to 3 June 2027, and 20 October 2027 to 22 February 2028, while Shani is in the last third of Meen (Phaladeepika 26.25). Between those, from 3 June to 20 October 2027, Shani is in Mesh and the dhaiyya is lifted. A house move or renovation is better timed for those months of pause than for the heavy months either side.
Each reading rests on four things: the houses Shani rules counted from your Moon, the house it sits in, the three houses its gaze (drishti) falls on, and how comfortable Shani is in that sign, from exalted (uchcha, strongest) to debilitated (neecha, weakest). The rules are from Phaladeepika, Mantreswara’s classical Jyotish text.
Shani in a neutral sign
In Meen, Shani is in the 4th house from a Dhanu Moon, and in a neutral sign for it, one that neither eases nor sharpens the transit. This is Kantaka Shani, which touches home, mother, vehicles, property and peace of mind. For Dhanu, Shani owns the 2nd (family, savings, speech) and the 3rd (siblings, courage and effort). So the family's savings, the way its members speak to one another, and dealings with siblings all bear on the home. For Shani in the 4th, Phaladeepika 26.22 warns of loss touching spouse, relatives and wealth.
From Meen, Shani’s drishti also falls on Vrishabh, Kanya and Dhanu: your 6th (work under pressure, rivals, debts and illness), your 10th (work, status and dealings with seniors) and your 1st (your own health, confidence and how others see you).
What to do Keep savings apart from spending on the house, and choose gentle words at home, above all with your mother and siblings.
Shani in an enemy’s sign: heavier
Placed in Kark, Shani sits 8th from a Dhanu Moon as Ashtama Shani, the dhaiyya of health, sudden events, hidden matters, in-laws and inheritance. Kark is an enemy sign for Shani, which Phaladeepika 26.32 says sharpens the transit. For Shani in the 8th, Phaladeepika 26.22 warns of losses touching children, friends and wealth, and of illness. Its lordship of your 2nd (family, savings, speech) and 3rd (siblings, courage and effort) brings savings, words spoken within the family, and matters with siblings into the 8th house.
From Kark, Shani’s drishti also falls on Kanya, Makar and Mesh: your 10th (work, status and dealings with seniors), your 2nd (family, savings and the way you speak) and your 5th (children, studies and judgement).
Phaladeepika 26.22 is a single verse for Shani in each of the first eight houses from the Moon, which is why both dhaiyyas cite it.
What to do Set some money aside for health, and let a hard word with in-laws or siblings wait a day before you say it.
Shani’s Ashtakavarga points. The Ashtakavarga is a table of points (bindus) drawn from your birth chart. By Phaladeepika (26.41, 23.10), a transit goes easier through a sign where Shani holds many bindus (points) in your own chart: five or more of eight favours it, four is middling, fewer weigh more. Find Shani’s bindus in your chart.
The upay (remedies) families have kept through dhaiyya for generations. Free, and each with its reason.
Shani mantra · 108 times on Saturdays
ॐ शं शनैश्चराय नमः
Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namah
Shani’s short mantra, built on its seed syllable “Sham”. Saying it every week without fail is itself the discipline Shani asks for.
Neelam (blue sapphire) is not a general dhaiyya remedy. It suits some charts and harms others, so wear it only after your own kundli has been checked.
Beside the Saturday routine every rashi shares, this one suits Dhanu in particular.
Guru, your rashi lord, and Shani are neutral to each other, so the upay here is to keep Guru strong: on Thursdays chant Om Gurave Namah 108 times and worship Lord Vishnu, whom tradition honours on Guru's day, to support the judgement and faith people with a Dhanu Moon lean on. On Saturdays, recite the Shani Kavach, a protective hymn to Shani, for relief from Shani's afflictions.
Your own kundli decides how it goes.

Take the site’s sample kundli: born 15 July 1990, 2:30 PM, in Mumbai. The Moon is in Meen, so its next dhaiyya is Kantaka Shani, Shani in Mithun, from 31 May 2032 to 13 July 2034, the same dates as for every Meen Moon. Four things make it this chart’s own.
Another Meen Moon shares these dates and almost none of the rest. Two Dhanu Moons are the same: the dates on this page are theirs alike, and what they bring is not.
Every dhaiyya and Sade Sati for Dhanu in order. Dhanu’s next Sade Sati runs from 11 December 2043 to 25 February 2052. The dates are sidereal (Lahiri ayanamsa, the Government of India standard), which is one reason another site may differ.

Two rashis are in a dhaiyya at a time: the one whose 4th Shani is in, and the one whose 8th. When Shani spends a few months in the next sign and comes back, the dhaiyya moves to the next two rashis for those months and then returns.

Yes. Kantaka Shani runs from 29 March 2025 until 23 February 2028, with a break while Shani is away (dates above).
Kantaka Shani is running now, until 23 February 2028; Ashtama Shani from 13 July 2034 to 27 August 2036.
Kantaka Shani is Shani in the 4th from the Moon, read for home, mother, property and peace of mind. Ashtama Shani is Shani in the 8th, read for health, sudden events and in-laws. For Dhanu, Kantaka Shani is Shani in Meen, and Ashtama Shani is Shani in Kark.
Not equally: Ashtama Shani is the heavier of the two. Kantaka Shani falls in Meen (a neutral sign for Shani), which neither eases it nor adds to it. Ashtama Shani falls in Kark (an enemy’s sign for Shani), which sharpens it (Phaladeepika 26.32), on top of the 8th’s own sharper warning (26.33). How much you feel it depends on your lagna (rising sign), your dasha and Shani’s bindus in your chart.
