No dhaiyya right now · the next one starts in 2029
Dhaiyya (from dhai, two and a half), or small panoti, is Shani in the 4th (Kantaka Shani) or the 8th (Ashtama Shani) from your Moon rashi, about two and a half years each, longer when Shani turns back across the line. For Kumbh, it comes when Shani is in Vrishabh or in Kanya. Shani is in Meen now, the 2nd from Kumbh: that is Sade Sati for Kumbh (Shani over your Moon sign and the signs either side, about seven and a half years), not a dhaiyya. The Sade Sati pauses from 3 June 2027 until 19 October 2027, while Shani is in Mesh. It ends on 23 February 2028; Kantaka Shani then begins on 8 August 2029. For Kumbh, both dhaiyyas fall in signs where Shani is at ease, Vrishabh and Kanya, which keeps them lighter than in an enemy’s sign.
Starts in 2 years 9 months · 8 August 2029
Also written Kumbha, Kumbam. Dhaiyya is also spelt dhaiya or dhaya; in the south, Kantaka Shani is called Ardhashtama Shani.
Kantaka means a thorn; Ashtama, the eighth. Each has its own dates, and when Shani leaves a sign for a few months and comes back, the window runs from first entry to final exit.
Kantaka Shani
Shani in Vrishabh (Taurus), the 4th from your Moon
Next · 8 August 2029 to 31 May 2032
About 2 years 10 months. Shani enters Vrishabh on 8 August 2029 and leaves it for the last time on 31 May 2032. In between, it steps back into Mesh from 5 October 2029 until 16 April 2030 (the dhaiyya pauses). By the classical rule (Phaladeepika 26.25), its heaviest part comes when Shani is in the last third of Vrishabh (20° to 30°): from 18 June 2031 until 31 May 2032.
Last time: 7 June 2000 to 7 April 2003.
Ashtama Shani
Shani in Kanya (Virgo), the 8th from your Moon
Later · 22 October 2038 to 26 September 2041
About 2 years 11 months. Shani enters Kanya on 22 October 2038 and leaves it for the last time on 26 September 2041. In between, it steps back into Singh from 5 April 2039 until 12 July 2039 (the dhaiyya pauses) and moves on into Tula from 28 January 2041 until 5 February 2041 (the dhaiyya pauses). By the classical rule (Phaladeepika 26.25), its heaviest part comes when Shani is in the last third of Kanya (20° to 30°): from 2 October 2040 until 28 January 2041 and from 6 February 2041 until 26 September 2041.
Last time: 10 September 2009 to 4 August 2012.
Each reading rests on four things: the houses Shani rules counted from your Moon, the house it sits in, the three houses its gaze (drishti) falls on, and how comfortable Shani is in that sign, from exalted (uchcha, strongest) to debilitated (neecha, weakest). The rules are from Phaladeepika, Mantreswara’s classical Jyotish text.
Shani in a friend’s sign: at ease
With Shani in Vrishabh, the 4th house from a Kumbh Moon, your rashi lord itself moves through the home. Shani rules your 1st (yourself, your body) and also the 12th (expenses, distant places, sleep). Kantaka Shani touches home, mother, vehicles, property and peace of mind. Here it can take the form of spending on the house, a move far away, or broken sleep. Vrishabh is a friendly sign for Shani, which keeps it lighter than an enemy sign would. Still, for Shani in the 4th, Phaladeepika 26.22 warns of loss touching spouse, relatives and wealth.
From Vrishabh, Shani’s drishti also falls on Kark, Vrishchik and Kumbh: your 6th (work under pressure, rivals, debts and illness), your 10th (work, status and dealings with seniors) and your 1st (your own health, confidence and how others see you).
What to do Fix a limit before spending on the house or a vehicle, and guard your sleep with a regular bedtime.
Shani in a friend’s sign: at ease
Health, sleep and unplanned costs ask for attention for a Kumbh Moon when Shani is in Kanya, the 8th house. It is Ashtama Shani, the dhaiyya of health, sudden events, hidden matters, in-laws and inheritance. Shani is your rashi lord, ruling the 1st (yourself, your body), and lord of the 12th (expenses, distant places, sleep) as well. So it brings your own body and your spending into this dhaiyya. Kanya, a friend's sign for Shani, softens this; still, Phaladeepika 26.22 warns, for Shani in the 8th, of losses touching children, friends and wealth, and of illness.
From Kanya, Shani’s drishti also falls on Vrishchik, Meen and Mithun: your 10th (work, status and dealings with seniors), your 2nd (family, savings and the way you speak) and your 5th (children, studies and judgement).
Phaladeepika 26.22 is a single verse for Shani in each of the first eight houses from the Moon, which is why both dhaiyyas cite it.
What to do Regular check-ups and good sleep habits help here, and so does a small fund held aside for unexpected costs.
Shani’s Ashtakavarga points. The Ashtakavarga is a table of points (bindus) drawn from your birth chart. By Phaladeepika (26.41, 23.10), a transit goes easier through a sign where Shani holds many bindus (points) in your own chart: five or more of eight favours it, four is middling, fewer weigh more. Find Shani’s bindus in your chart.
The upay (remedies) families have kept through dhaiyya for generations. Free, and each with its reason.
Shani mantra · 108 times on Saturdays
ॐ शं शनैश्चराय नमः
Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namah
Shani’s short mantra, built on its seed syllable “Sham”. Saying it every week without fail is itself the discipline Shani asks for.
Neelam (blue sapphire) is not a general dhaiyya remedy. It suits some charts and harms others, so wear it only after your own kundli has been checked.
Beside the Saturday routine every rashi shares, this one suits Kumbh in particular.
For a Kumbh Moon, Shani is the rashi lord, so honouring Shani directly works best: on Saturdays recite the Dasharatha Shani Stotra (the hymn to Shani attributed to King Dasharatha), which strengthens the graha that is both your Moon's lord and the one in transit. A blanket or black cloth given on a Saturday to a person with a disability is a further daan (charity) that tradition sets for Shani.
Your own kundli decides how it goes.

Take the site’s sample kundli: born 15 July 1990, 2:30 PM, in Mumbai. The Moon is in Meen, so its next dhaiyya is Kantaka Shani, Shani in Mithun, from 31 May 2032 to 13 July 2034, the same dates as for every Meen Moon. Four things make it this chart’s own.
Another Meen Moon shares these dates and almost none of the rest. Two Kumbh Moons are the same: the dates on this page are theirs alike, and what they bring is not.
Every dhaiyya and Sade Sati for Kumbh in order. Kumbh is in Sade Sati now, until 23 February 2028. The dates are sidereal (Lahiri ayanamsa, the Government of India standard), which is one reason another site may differ.

Two rashis are in a dhaiyya at a time: the one whose 4th Shani is in, and the one whose 8th. When Shani spends a few months in the next sign and comes back, the dhaiyya moves to the next two rashis for those months and then returns.

No dhaiyya, but Sade Sati, which runs until 23 February 2028. Shani is in Meen now, the 2nd from Kumbh.
Kantaka Shani from 8 August 2029 to 31 May 2032; Ashtama Shani from 22 October 2038 to 26 September 2041.
Kantaka Shani is Shani in the 4th from the Moon, read for home, mother, property and peace of mind. Ashtama Shani is Shani in the 8th, read for health, sudden events and in-laws. For Kumbh, Kantaka Shani is Shani in Vrishabh, and Ashtama Shani is Shani in Kanya.
Kumbh’s dhaiyyas are usually milder than most. Kantaka falls in Vrishabh and Ashtama in Kanya, both signs of Shani’s friends, which keeps both lighter than an enemy’s sign would; but the 8th is among the houses of Shani’s sharpest warning (Phaladeepika 26.33). How much you feel it depends on your lagna (rising sign), your dasha and Shani’s bindus in your chart.
The free ones on this page: the Saturday routine every rashi shares (the Shani mantra, the Hanuman Chalisa, a diya under a pipal, seva for workers and elders), and the one that suits Kumbh in particular, with its reason. Wear blue sapphire only after your own kundli has been checked.
What a dhaiyya brings is read from your whole chart: your lagna, your dasha and where Shani sits.
