No dhaiyya right now · the next one starts in 2029
Dhaiyya (from dhai, two and a half), or small panoti, is Shani in the 4th (Kantaka Shani) or the 8th (Ashtama Shani) from your Moon rashi, about two and a half years each, longer when Shani turns back across the line. For Tula, it comes when Shani is in Makar or in Vrishabh. Shani is in Meen now, the 6th from Tula, so neither dhaiyya is running. The 6th is one of the three houses where Shani does good from the Moon (Phaladeepika 26.2). For Tula, both dhaiyyas fall in signs where Shani is at ease, Makar and Vrishabh, which keeps them lighter than in an enemy’s sign.
Starts in 2 years 9 months · 8 August 2029
Also written Thula, Thulam. Dhaiyya is also spelt dhaiya or dhaya; in the south, Kantaka Shani is called Ardhashtama Shani.
Kantaka means a thorn; Ashtama, the eighth. Each has its own dates, and when Shani leaves a sign for a few months and comes back, the window runs from first entry to final exit.
Ashtama Shani
Shani in Vrishabh (Taurus), the 8th from your Moon
Next · 8 August 2029 to 31 May 2032
About 2 years 10 months. Shani enters Vrishabh on 8 August 2029 and leaves it for the last time on 31 May 2032. In between, it steps back into Mesh from 5 October 2029 until 16 April 2030 (the dhaiyya pauses). By the classical rule (Phaladeepika 26.25), its heaviest part comes when Shani is in the last third of Vrishabh (20° to 30°): from 18 June 2031 until 31 May 2032.
Last time: 7 June 2000 to 7 April 2003.
Kantaka Shani
Shani in Makar (Capricorn), the 4th from your Moon
Later · 6 March 2049 to 25 February 2052
About 3 years. Shani enters Makar on 6 March 2049 and leaves it for the last time on 25 February 2052. In between, it steps back into Dhanu from 10 July 2049 until 3 December 2049 (the dhaiyya pauses). By the classical rule (Phaladeepika 26.25), its heaviest part comes when Shani is in the last third of Makar (20° to 30°): from 28 February 2051 until 20 September 2051 and from 15 November 2051 until 25 February 2052.
Last time: 24 January 2020 to 17 January 2023.
Each reading rests on four things: the houses Shani rules counted from your Moon, the house it sits in, the three houses its gaze (drishti) falls on, and how comfortable Shani is in that sign, from exalted (uchcha, strongest) to debilitated (neecha, weakest). The rules are from Phaladeepika, Mantreswara’s classical Jyotish text.
Shani in a friend’s sign: at ease
Shani's move into Vrishabh puts it 8th from a Tula Moon: this is Ashtama Shani, the dhaiyya of health, sudden events, hidden matters, in-laws and inheritance. For Tula, Shani rules the 4th (home, mother, property) and the 5th (children, studies). The 4th is a kendra (one of the four pillar houses, the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th) and the 5th a trikona (one of the three houses of fortune, the 1st, 5th and 9th). A graha that rules one of each is a yogakaraka. Counted from your Moon sign, Shani is your yogakaraka. Through those two houses it brings property, a mother's health and the children's matters into the 8th house. Vrishabh is a friend's sign for Shani, so the transit falls lighter than it would in an enemy's sign. Even so, for Shani in the 8th, Phaladeepika 26.22 still warns of losses touching children, friends and wealth, and of illness.
From Vrishabh, Shani’s drishti also falls on Kark, Vrishchik and Kumbh: your 10th (work, status and dealings with seniors), your 2nd (family, savings and the way you speak) and your 5th (children, studies and judgement).
Phaladeepika 26.22 is a single verse for Shani in each of the first eight houses from the Moon, which is why both dhaiyyas cite it.
What to do Get property and inheritance papers in order, and make time to go with your mother to her check-ups.
Shani in its own sign: steadier
Makar, the 4th house from a Tula Moon, is Shani's own sign, and Shani rules your 4th and 5th (children, studies). So the lord of your 4th sits in its own house. Counted from your Moon sign, Shani is also your yogakaraka. As Kantaka Shani it touches home, mother, vehicles, property and peace of mind, and through the 5th, the children's studies as well. Phaladeepika (26.31) says Shani in its own sign does no harm. So for Tula the warning of Phaladeepika 26.22 for Shani in the 4th, of loss touching spouse, relatives and wealth, does not apply here. What remains is Shani's slow, steady pace, and the notes below say where you may feel it.
From Makar, Shani’s drishti also falls on Meen, Kark and Tula: your 6th (work under pressure, rivals, debts and illness), your 10th (work, status and dealings with seniors) and your 1st (your own health, confidence and how others see you).
What to do Slow, careful work on a house or its papers suits this stretch; keep the children's routine steady through it.
Shani’s Ashtakavarga points. The Ashtakavarga is a table of points (bindus) drawn from your birth chart. By Phaladeepika (26.41, 23.10), a transit goes easier through a sign where Shani holds many bindus (points) in your own chart: five or more of eight favours it, four is middling, fewer weigh more. Find Shani’s bindus in your chart.
The upay (remedies) families have kept through dhaiyya for generations. Free, and each with its reason.
Shani mantra · 108 times on Saturdays
ॐ शं शनैश्चराय नमः
Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namah
Shani’s short mantra, built on its seed syllable “Sham”. Saying it every week without fail is itself the discipline Shani asks for.
Neelam (blue sapphire) is not a general dhaiyya remedy. It suits some charts and harms others, so wear it only after your own kundli has been checked.
Beside the Saturday routine every rashi shares, this one suits Tula in particular.
As your yogakaraka, Shani is worth strengthening rather than only appeasing: recite the Shani Kavach, Shani's hymn of protection, on Saturdays, and keep to the discipline Shani rewards. For Shukra, your rashi lord and Shani's friend, chant Om Shukraya Namah 108 times on Fridays, so that a strong rashi lord helps you carry the home and children's matters this dhaiyya brings.
Your own kundli decides how it goes.

Take the site’s sample kundli: born 15 July 1990, 2:30 PM, in Mumbai. The Moon is in Meen, so its next dhaiyya is Kantaka Shani, Shani in Mithun, from 31 May 2032 to 13 July 2034, the same dates as for every Meen Moon. Four things make it this chart’s own.
Another Meen Moon shares these dates and almost none of the rest. Two Tula Moons are the same: the dates on this page are theirs alike, and what they bring is not.
Every dhaiyya and Sade Sati for Tula in order. Tula’s next Sade Sati runs from 22 October 2038 to 8 December 2046. The dates are sidereal (Lahiri ayanamsa, the Government of India standard), which is one reason another site may differ.

Two rashis are in a dhaiyya at a time: the one whose 4th Shani is in, and the one whose 8th. When Shani spends a few months in the next sign and comes back, the dhaiyya moves to the next two rashis for those months and then returns.

No. Shani is in Meen, the 6th from Tula; dhaiyya is Shani in the 4th or 8th.
Ashtama Shani from 8 August 2029 to 31 May 2032; Kantaka Shani from 6 March 2049 to 25 February 2052.
Kantaka Shani is Shani in the 4th from the Moon, read for home, mother, property and peace of mind. Ashtama Shani is Shani in the 8th, read for health, sudden events and in-laws. For Tula, Kantaka Shani is Shani in Makar, and Ashtama Shani is Shani in Vrishabh.
Not equally: Ashtama Shani is the heavier of the two. Kantaka Shani falls in Makar (Shani’s own sign), which does no harm (Phaladeepika 26.31). Ashtama Shani falls in Vrishabh (a friend’s sign for Shani), which keeps it lighter than an enemy’s sign would; but the 8th is among the houses of Shani’s sharpest warning (Phaladeepika 26.33). As your yogakaraka counted from the Moon, Shani also softens both. How much you feel it depends on your lagna (rising sign), your dasha and Shani’s bindus in your chart.
The free ones on this page: the Saturday routine every rashi shares (the Shani mantra, the Hanuman Chalisa, a diya under a pipal, seva for workers and elders), and the one that suits Tula in particular, with its reason. Wear blue sapphire only after your own kundli has been checked.
What a dhaiyya brings is read from your whole chart: your lagna, your dasha and where Shani sits.
