Mantra, daan, vrat, ratna, rudraksha and the Lal Kitab upay for Surya in each bhava, each with the reason it is given.
These are suggestions, not prescriptions. The tradition turns to them when Surya is weak or troubled in a kundli, or when its dasha or a hard transit is running. Your kundli says which applies to you.
The graha’s seed sound. Chanted with a steady count, it is the oldest way to strengthen what Surya stands for: self-respect, authority and the father. Begin on Sunday and keep the same time and count each day until the full count is done.
ॐ ह्रां ह्रीं ह्रौं सः सूर्याय नमः
Om Hraam Hreem Hraum Sah Suryaya Namah
A short mantra of Surya’s own name, for those who would rather pray than count. Surya is worshipped as Lord Surya himself.
ॐ सूर्याय नमः
Om Suryaya Namah · 108 times
Give what belongs to Surya, on its day, to someone who needs it. Lal Kitab and the Parashari tradition both count it the gentlest upay.
A fast on Sunday, kept for Surya or Shiva, steadies the mind and eases Surya’s troubles.
A ratna strengthens Surya, so it helps only when Surya is good for your lagna, that is, when it rules houses that work well for that lagna. Wear it only after the kundli is checked: for some lagnas the same stone does harm.
A rudraksha carries none of a ratna’s risk; it is worn to keep Surya calm and steady. A bead’s deity goes with its mukhi (the number of lines), so it can differ from the deity worshipped for Surya above.
Lal Kitab gives a different upay for each bhava, because Surya does different things from each. Use the one for the house it occupies in your kundli. A pakka ghar is the house Lal Kitab treats as a graha’s permanent home.
| Bhava | Upay | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1st house | Offer water to the Sun at sunrise daily. | To keep the good strong: the Sun in the 1st house gives leadership, government favour, and a kingly demeanour. |
| 2nd house | Donate wheat and jaggery on Sundays; do not accept free goods. | To ease the hard side: the Sun in the 2nd house can harm family wealth and create disputes with the father. |
| 3rd house | Keep a solid piece of silver with you. | To keep the good strong: the Sun in the 3rd house gives courage, good relations with siblings, and success through personal effort. |
| 4th house | Offer water to the Sun and feed jaggery to monkeys. | To ease the hard side: the Sun in the 4th house gives government property and vehicles but may create domestic unrest and health issues for the mother. |
| 5th house | Apply saffron tilak on forehead daily. | To keep the good strong: the Sun in the 5th house gives intelligent children, good fortune, and a noble character. |
| 6th house | Keep almonds or walnuts at your bedside. | To keep the good strong: the Sun in the 6th house gives victory over enemies and good health but may cause trouble through a maternal uncle. |
| 7th house | Offer wheat and jaggery at a temple on Sundays; avoid accepting charity. | To ease the hard side: the Sun in the 7th house can delay marriage or cause disagreements with the spouse. |
| 8th house | Throw jaggery or copper coins in flowing water on Sundays. | To ease the hard side: the Sun in the 8th house lessens the happiness that comes from the father, and can bring hidden losses and penalties from the government. |
| 9th house | Maintain a clean kitchen and never waste food. | To keep the good strong: the Sun in the 9th house gives fortune, spiritual growth, and a charitable nature. |
| 10th house | Offer water to the Sun and donate jaggery on Sundays. | To keep the good strong: the Sun in the 10th house gives high status in career, authority, and government connections. |
| 11th house | Keep a dark room or store-room in the house; avoid eating non-veg on Sundays. | To keep the good strong: the Sun in the 11th house brings steady income and wealthy friends, but it may be a sleeping position, where its results come late. |
| 12th house | Float jaggery (gur) in flowing water; offer wheat at a temple. | To ease the hard side: the Sun in the 12th house causes expenditure, eye troubles, and loss through government matters. |
