Mantreswara, Adhyaya 8, sloka 3Phaladeepika 8.3 holds that Surya (Sun) in the 7th house (the house of marriage and partnership) brings the displeasure of those in power and some deformity of the body. The text adds a wandering life, humiliation, and a life without a spouse.

Take Mesh lagna. Surya sits in Tula there (debilitated) and rules your 5th house, which makes it a benefic for Mesh lagna (BPHS 34). The two pull apart: the label says what it does for this lagna, the rashi how much strength it has to do it, so it gives less of that good than its label promises, unless a neecha bhanga (a cancelled debility) lifts it. The Lal Kitab reading above is the same for every lagna; this row is the part that changes with yours.
