What Shukra gives in the 7th house by Lal Kitab and by Phaladeepika, its upay, the houses it looks at from there, and what it means for each lagna.
Venus in the 7th house (pakka ghar: the house Lal Kitab gives a graha as its own, where it is steadiest; shared with Mercury) gives a beautiful and loving spouse, business partnerships, and luxury.
In a kendra (one of the four angles of the chart, the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th houses, where a graha acts with most force), in Vrishabh (Taurus), Tula (Libra) or Meen (Pisces), Shukra forms Malavya Yoga, one of the five Pancha Mahapurusha (“great person”) yogas of Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. The table below marks the lagnas where that happens.
Lal Kitab reads Shukra in the 7th house by the house, not by your lagna; Parashara’s view for your own lagna is further down, and Phaladeepika and Brihat Jataka may differ. How Lal Kitab and Parashara differ · Lal Kitab: pakka ghar, rin and upay

This is Lal Kitab’s one upay for Shukra in the 7th house, to keep its good results strong; it is a suggestion, and your whole kundli may call for another. All upay for Shukra
Phaladeepika 8.18 holds that Shukra (Venus) in the 7th house (the house of marriage and partnership) gives a good spouse and wealth. As cautions of this placement, the text also warns of affairs outside marriage and of the loss of a spouse.
How much of this holds turns on the rest of the chart: the rashi Shukra sits in, the 7th house’s lord and the grahas with it or looking at it. The old texts speak of a man; their readings apply to anyone.
BJ 20.8: Shukra in the 7th is read as a quarrelsome streak and strong desire.
Its results show most in Shukra’s own mahadasha (20 years) and in its antardashas inside the others. The 7th house’s matters also come forward in the periods of the house’s lord, which depends on your lagna.
Its drishti (a graha’s glance: the houses it looks at feel its influence) from the 7th, by the rules our kundli reading weighs houses with:
The 7th house, Kalatra bhava, rules marriage, spouse, partnerships and business deals; it is a kendra and a maraka house (literally “killer”: a graha or house watched in matters of health and longevity); its karaka (the graha that naturally signifies a house’s matters, whatever the lagna) is Shukra. The 7th house, and every graha in it
| Lagna | Shukra sits in | Its state there | Lord of your | For this lagna |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Tula (Libra) | Own rashi · Malavya Yoga | 2nd and 7th | Malefic · Maraka |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Neutral | 1st and 6th | Malefic · Maraka— the lagna lord, but also lord of the 6th: a malefic and a killer (34.23–24) |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Neutral | 5th and 12th | Benefic |
| Kark (Cancer) | Makar (Capricorn) | Friendly | 4th and 11th | Malefic |
| Singh (Leo) | Kumbh (Aquarius) | Friendly | 3rd and 10th | Malefic |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Meen (Pisces) | Exalted · Malavya Yoga | 2nd and 9th | Benefic · Maraka · Yoga— gives yoga together with Budh (34.32) |
| Tula (Libra) | Mesh (Aries) | Neutral | 1st and 8th | Neutral— the lagna lord, which the verse calls neutral (34.34) |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Vrishabh (Taurus) | Own rashi · Malavya Yoga | 7th and 12th | Malefic · Maraka |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Mithun (Gemini) | Friendly | 6th and 11th | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 6th and 11th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.37–38) |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Kark (Cancer) | Enemy | 5th and 10th | Yogakaraka |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Singh (Leo) | Enemy | 4th and 9th | Yogakaraka |
| Meen (Pisces) | Kanya (Virgo) | Debilitated | 3rd and 8th | Malefic |
Shukra’s state in each rashi, and the houses it rules for each lagna, as our free kundli reads them (BPHS chapter 34); each house links to what Parashara says of its lord sitting in the 7th. “Its state there” is how that rashi treats Shukra: exalted, own, friendly, neutral (sam), enemy or debilitated. “For this lagna” is Parashara’s verdict on the houses it rules. The two answer different questions.
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
Take Makar lagna. Shukra sits in Kark there (enemy) and rules your 5th and 10th houses, which makes it a yogakaraka for Makar lagna (BPHS 34). The two pull apart: the label says what it does for this lagna, the rashi how much strength it has to do it, so it gives less of that good than its label promises. The Lal Kitab reading above is the same for every lagna; this row is the part that changes with yours.
By Brihat Jataka 20.11, Shukra in the 7th house gives its good in full for Kanya lagna, half for Mesh and Vrishchik lagna, a quarter for Kark, Singh and Dhanu lagna, little for Makar and Kumbh lagna and none for Meen lagna, by the rashi it sits in. The verse gives no share for a neutral rashi, which is where it sits for Vrishabh, Mithun and Tula lagna. BJ 20.10–11
Not the birth placement above: here Shukra is moving through the 7th counted from your Moon rashi. Phaladeepika does not count the 7th among Shukra’s good transit houses (all twelve, on the Shukra page). Our Monthly Prediction reads it as challenging: friction in marriage and partnerships; pleasures cost more than they give.
Lal Kitab counts it a good placement, one of the 10 houses where Shukra does well (with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th). By its rashi, it is strongest for Mesh, Kanya and Vrishchik lagna; it is debilitated for Meen lagna.
