What Shukra gives in the 6th house by Lal Kitab and by Phaladeepika, its upay, the houses it looks at from there, and what it means for each lagna.
Venus in the 6th house causes marital discord, kidney or urinary problems, and losses through women.
Lal Kitab reads Shukra in the 6th house by the house, not by your lagna; Parashara’s view for your own lagna is further down, and Phaladeepika and Brihat Jataka may differ. How Lal Kitab and Parashara differ · Lal Kitab: pakka ghar, rin and upay
Donate rice, white cloth, or camphor on Fridays. Feed cows with white items.
This is Lal Kitab’s one upay for Shukra in the 6th house, offered to ease its harder side; it is a suggestion, and your whole kundli may call for another. All upay for Shukra
Phaladeepika 8.18 holds that Shukra (Venus) in the 6th house (the house of enemies and disease) leaves a person free of enemies but also without riches. The text warns that the person may be led astray by young women.
How much of this holds turns on the rest of the chart: the rashi Shukra sits in, the 6th house’s lord and the grahas with it or looking at it. The old texts speak of a man; their readings apply to anyone.
BJ 20.8 gives Shukra in the 6th the same result as Guru there (20.7): freedom from enemies.
Its results show most in Shukra’s own mahadasha (20 years) and in its antardashas inside the others. The 6th house’s matters also come forward in the periods of the house’s lord, which depends on your lagna.
Its drishti (a graha’s glance: the houses it looks at feel its influence) from the 6th, by the rules our kundli reading weighs houses with:
The 6th house, Ripu bhava, rules illness, debt, rivals, service and daily work; it is a dusthana (the 6th, 8th and 12th houses, the hard houses of illness, sudden events and loss) and an upachaya (the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th houses, which grow better with time and effort); its karaka (the graha that naturally signifies a house’s matters, whatever the lagna) is Mangal, Shani. The 6th house, and every graha in it
| Lagna | Shukra sits in | Its state there | Lord of your | For this lagna |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Kanya (Virgo) | Debilitated | 2nd and 7th | Malefic · Maraka |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Tula (Libra) | Own rashi | 1st and 6th | Malefic · Maraka— the lagna lord, but also lord of the 6th: a malefic and a killer (34.23–24) |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Neutral | 5th and 12th | Benefic |
| Kark (Cancer) | Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Neutral | 4th and 11th | Malefic |
| Singh (Leo) | Makar (Capricorn) | Friendly | 3rd and 10th | Malefic |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Kumbh (Aquarius) | Friendly | 2nd and 9th | Benefic · Maraka · Yoga— gives yoga together with Budh (34.32) |
| Tula (Libra) | Meen (Pisces) | Exalted | 1st and 8th | Neutral— the lagna lord, which the verse calls neutral (34.34) |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Mesh (Aries) | Neutral | 7th and 12th | Malefic · Maraka |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Vrishabh (Taurus) | Own rashi | 6th and 11th | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 6th and 11th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.37–38) |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Mithun (Gemini) | Friendly | 5th and 10th | Yogakaraka |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Kark (Cancer) | Enemy | 4th and 9th | Yogakaraka |
| Meen (Pisces) | Singh (Leo) | Enemy | 3rd and 8th | Malefic |
The 6th is a dusthana, one of the hard houses. Where the table calls Shukra a yogakaraka (the graha that brings yoga, success and standing, to a lagna: the best it can have) or a benefic for a lagna, sitting here it gives less than its lordship promises.
Shukra’s state in each rashi, and the houses it rules for each lagna, as our free kundli reads them (BPHS chapter 34); each house links to what Parashara says of its lord sitting in the 6th. “Its state there” is how that rashi treats Shukra: exalted, own, friendly, neutral (sam), enemy or debilitated. “For this lagna” is Parashara’s verdict on the houses it rules. The two answer different questions.
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
Take Kumbh lagna. Shukra sits in Kark there (enemy) and rules your 4th and 9th houses, which makes it a yogakaraka for Kumbh lagna (BPHS 34). The two pull apart: the label says what it does for this lagna, the rashi how much strength it has to do it, so it gives less of that good than its label promises. The Lal Kitab reading above is the same for every lagna; this row is the part that changes with yours.
By Brihat Jataka 20.11, Shukra in the 6th house gives its good in full for Tula lagna, half for Vrishabh and Dhanu lagna, a quarter for Singh, Kanya and Makar lagna, little for Kumbh and Meen lagna and none for Mesh lagna, by the rashi it sits in. The verse gives no share for a neutral rashi, which is where it sits for Mithun, Kark and Vrishchik lagna. BJ 20.10–11
Not the birth placement above: here Shukra is moving through the 6th counted from your Moon rashi. Phaladeepika does not count the 6th among Shukra’s good transit houses (all twelve, on the Shukra page). Our Monthly Prediction reads it as mixed: look after your health; relationships need work.
Lal Kitab counts it a hard placement; Shukra does well in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th. By its rashi, it is strongest for Vrishabh, Tula and Dhanu lagna; it is debilitated for Mesh lagna.
Lal Kitab’s upay for it: Donate rice, white cloth, or camphor on Fridays; feed cows with white items.
