What Shukra gives in the 4th house by Lal Kitab and by Phaladeepika, its upay, the houses it looks at from there, and what it means for each lagna.
Venus in the 4th house gives a beautiful home, vehicles, and domestic peace. The mother is loving and supportive.
In a kendra (one of the four angles of the chart, the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th houses, where a graha acts with most force), in Vrishabh (Taurus), Tula (Libra) or Meen (Pisces), Shukra forms Malavya Yoga, one of the five Pancha Mahapurusha (“great person”) yogas of Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. The table below marks the lagnas where that happens.
Lal Kitab reads Shukra in the 4th house by the house, not by your lagna; Parashara’s view for your own lagna is further down, and Phaladeepika and Brihat Jataka may differ. How Lal Kitab and Parashara differ · Lal Kitab: pakka ghar, rin and upay

This is Lal Kitab’s one upay for Shukra in the 4th house, to keep its good results strong; it is a suggestion, and your whole kundli may call for another. All upay for Shukra
Phaladeepika 8.17 holds that Shukra (Venus) in the 4th house (the house of home, mother and comforts) brings good vehicles and a good home. The text adds jewellery, fine clothes, perfumes and similar comforts.
How much of this holds turns on the rest of the chart: the rashi Shukra sits in, the 4th house’s lord and the grahas with it or looking at it. The old texts speak of a man; their readings apply to anyone.
BJ 20.8 gives Shukra in the 4th the same result as Guru there (20.7): happiness.
Its results show most in Shukra’s own mahadasha (20 years) and in its antardashas inside the others. The 4th house’s matters also come forward in the periods of the house’s lord, which depends on your lagna.
Its drishti (a graha’s glance: the houses it looks at feel its influence) from the 4th, by the rules our kundli reading weighs houses with:
The 4th house, Sukha bhava, rules mother, home, property, vehicles and peace of mind; it is a kendra; its karaka (the graha that naturally signifies a house’s matters, whatever the lagna) is Chandra. The 4th house, and every graha in it
| Lagna | Shukra sits in | Its state there | Lord of your | For this lagna |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Kark (Cancer) | Enemy | 2nd and 7th | Malefic · Maraka |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Singh (Leo) | Enemy | 1st and 6th | Malefic · Maraka— the lagna lord, but also lord of the 6th: a malefic and a killer (34.23–24) |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Kanya (Virgo) | Debilitated | 5th and 12th | Benefic |
| Kark (Cancer) | Tula (Libra) | Own rashi · Malavya Yoga | 4th and 11th | Malefic |
| Singh (Leo) | Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Neutral | 3rd and 10th | Malefic |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Neutral | 2nd and 9th | Benefic · Maraka · Yoga— gives yoga together with Budh (34.32) |
| Tula (Libra) | Makar (Capricorn) | Friendly | 1st and 8th | Neutral— the lagna lord, which the verse calls neutral (34.34) |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Kumbh (Aquarius) | Friendly | 7th and 12th | Malefic · Maraka |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Meen (Pisces) | Exalted · Malavya Yoga | 6th and 11th | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 6th and 11th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.37–38) |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Mesh (Aries) | Neutral | 5th and 10th | Yogakaraka |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Vrishabh (Taurus) | Own rashi · Malavya Yoga | 4th and 9th | Yogakaraka |
| Meen (Pisces) | Mithun (Gemini) | Friendly | 3rd and 8th | Malefic |
Shukra’s state in each rashi, and the houses it rules for each lagna, as our free kundli reads them (BPHS chapter 34); each house links to what Parashara says of its lord sitting in the 4th. “Its state there” is how that rashi treats Shukra: exalted, own, friendly, neutral (sam), enemy or debilitated. “For this lagna” is Parashara’s verdict on the houses it rules. The two answer different questions.
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
Take Mithun lagna. Shukra sits in Kanya there (debilitated) and rules your 5th and 12th houses, which makes it a benefic for Mithun lagna (BPHS 34). The two pull apart: the label says what it does for this lagna, the rashi how much strength it has to do it, so it gives less of that good than its label promises, unless a neecha bhanga (a cancelled debility) lifts it. The Lal Kitab reading above is the same for every lagna; this row is the part that changes with yours.
By Brihat Jataka 20.11, Shukra in the 4th house gives its good in full for Dhanu lagna, half for Kark and Kumbh lagna, a quarter for Tula, Vrishchik and Meen lagna, little for Mesh and Vrishabh lagna and none for Mithun lagna, by the rashi it sits in. The verse gives no share for a neutral rashi, which is where it sits for Singh, Kanya and Makar lagna. BJ 20.10–11
Not the birth placement above: here Shukra is moving through the 4th counted from your Moon rashi. Phaladeepika counts the 4th among Shukra’s good transit houses (all twelve, on the Shukra page). Our Monthly Prediction reads it as very good: a vehicle, comforts, happiness at home, property.
Lal Kitab counts it a good placement, one of the 10 houses where Shukra does well (with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th). By its rashi, it is strongest for Kark, Dhanu and Kumbh lagna; it is debilitated for Mithun lagna.
