Venus mahadasha runs 20 years and is read for marriage, comforts and the arts. What it brings you depends on where Venus sits in your kundli.
Venus mahadasha in the cycle
20 of 120 years. It follows Ketu (7 years) and comes before the Sun (6 years). You are born into it if the Moon was in Bharani, Purva Phalguni or Purva Ashadha, the three nakshatras Venus rules.

The nine antardashas
Each runs for 20 × its own lord’s years ÷ 120. The longest is Venus–Venus, the shortest Venus–Sun; together they make up the 20 years.
A dasha year here is 365.25 days, the common modern convention; a panchang using a 360-day year will give slightly different dates, in the same ratio. Each length is rounded to the day.

Shukra (Venus) antardasha
Goes well: BPHS gives gains of wealth and livestock through Brahmins (priests and learned men), celebrations for the birth of a son, well-being, recognition from those in power, and a rise to authority or a position of command.
Hard: BPHS warns of danger from thieves, friction with government officials, the loss of friends and relatives, and distress to the spouse and children.
Caution: When Shukra rules your 2nd or 7th house, BPHS counts this a maraka period (one the texts link with danger to life).
Remedy: For relief, BPHS prescribes the Durga Path (recitation of the Durga Saptashati) and giving a cow in charity.
BPHS 60.1–11Surya (Sun) antardasha
Goes well: BPHS gives a rise to authority and wealth, happiness from the spouse and children, happiness from one's employer, meetings with friends, happiness from parents, marriage, name and fame, better fortune and the birth of a son.
Hard: BPHS warns of a period of anguish, the displeasure of those in power, and quarrels with co-heirs, those who share the family property. The translator doubts this verse as printed, since Surya gives good results in many of those signs; read it with the rest of your kundli.
Caution: When Surya rules your 2nd or 7th house (the maraka houses, which the texts link with danger to life), BPHS warns that the grahas' influence turns adverse in this period, and asks for care.
Remedy: For relief, BPHS prescribes the worship of Surya.
BPHS 60.12–20Chandra (Moon) antardasha
Goes well: BPHS gives gains of wealth, vehicles and clothes through the favour of those in power, happiness in the family, great prosperity and standing, and devotion to the deities and Brahmins. It also gives the company of musicians and learned people, honours, gains of cows, buffaloes and other livestock, unusual profits in business, and meals shared with brothers.
Hard: BPHS warns of loss of wealth, fears, physical distress, anguish, the displeasure of those in power, journeys to foreign lands or pilgrimage, distress to the spouse and children, and separation from relatives.
These verses give no caution or remedy of their own for it; Chandra’s everyday upay are on its page.
BPHS 60.21–29Mangal (Mars) antardasha
Goes well: BPHS gives a rise to authority or a position of command, and gains of property, clothes, ornaments, land and the things one wishes for.
Hard: BPHS warns of chills with fever, illness such as fever for the parents, loss of position, quarrels, friction with those in power and with government officials, and heavy spending.
Caution: When Mangal rules your 2nd or 7th house (the maraka houses, which the texts link with danger to life), BPHS warns of physical distress, losses in one's profession and loss of land or property, and asks for care.
These verses give no remedy of their own for it; Mangal’s everyday upay are on its page.
BPHS 60.30–35Rahu antardasha
Goes well: BPHS gives great enjoyment, gains of wealth, visits from friends, successful journeys, and gains of livestock and land.
Hard: BPHS warns of inauspicious effects for oneself and one's parents, and friction with people.
Caution: When Rahu sits in your 2nd or 7th house or is joined with the lords of those houses, BPHS warns of physical distress and asks for care with health.
Remedy: For relief, BPHS prescribes the Mahamrityunjaya japa, the mantra to Shiva for health and long life.
BPHS 60.36–44Guru (Jupiter) antardasha
Goes well: BPHS gives the regaining of a lost position of authority, gains of the grain, clothes and property one wishes for, respect from friends and from those in power, gains of wealth, recognition, a good name, gains of vehicles, association with an employer and with learned people, diligent study of the shastras, the birth of a son, contentment, visits from close friends, and happiness for parents and son.
Hard: BPHS warns of danger from those in power and from thieves, distress to oneself and relatives, quarrels, mental anguish, loss of position, going away to foreign lands, and danger of many kinds of illness.
Caution: When Guru rules your 2nd or 7th house (the maraka houses, which the texts link with danger to life), BPHS warns of physical distress and asks for care with health.
Remedy: For relief, BPHS prescribes the same remedy as for the Rahu antardasha above (60.51).
BPHS 60.45–51Shani (Saturn) antardasha
Goes well: BPHS gives great enjoyment, visits from friends and relatives, recognition from those in power, the birth of a daughter, visits to holy places and sacred shrines, and authority conferred by those in power.
Hard: BPHS warns of lethargy and spending more than one earns.
Caution: When Shani rules your 2nd or 7th house (the maraka houses, which the texts link with danger to life), BPHS warns of physical distress and asks for care with health.
Remedy: For relief, BPHS prescribes a havan (fire offering) with sesame seeds (til), the Mahamrityunjaya japa, and recitation of the Durga Saptashati, done oneself or through a Brahmin.
BPHS 60.52–59Budh (Mercury) antardasha
Goes well: BPHS gives a rise in fortune, the birth of a son, gains of wealth through a court judgement, listening to stories from the Puranas, the company of people skilled in poetry, visits from close friends, happiness from one's employer, and sweet foods.
Hard: BPHS warns of anguish, loss of livestock, living in other people's houses and losses in business. It sees some good at the start, middling results in the middle, and distress from fever and the like at the end.
Caution: When Budh rules your 2nd or 7th house (the maraka houses, which the texts link with danger to life), BPHS warns of physical distress and asks for care with health.
Remedy: For relief, BPHS prescribes reciting the Vishnu Sahasranama, the thousand names of Vishnu.
BPHS 60.60–66Ketu antardasha
Goes well: BPHS gives, from the very start of the antardasha, sweet foods, unusual gains in one's profession and growth in livestock. It says the middle gives moderate results, with some distress at times, and the end brings sure victory over rivals.
Hard: BPHS warns of danger from snakes, thieves and wounds, clouded thinking, headache, anguish, quarrels without cause, diabetes, heavy spending, friction with the spouse and children, going away to foreign lands, and losses in ventures.
Caution: When Ketu sits in your 2nd or 7th house or is joined with the lords of those houses, BPHS warns of physical distress and asks for care with health.
Remedy: For relief, BPHS prescribes the Mahamrityunjaya japa, the mantra to Shiva for health and long life, and giving a goat in charity. It adds that the remedies for pleasing Shukra also help.

When it goes well
- When Shukra (Venus) is exalted, in his own rashi, or in a kendra (the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house) or a trikona (the 1st, 5th or 9th house), BPHS gives, by the grace of Devi Lakshmi, fine clothes, ornaments, vehicles, cattle and land, sweet food every day, recognition from those in power, and festive gatherings of music and dance.BPHS 47.79–82
- When Shukra is in his mooltrikona (root sign of strength), BPHS says his dasha surely brings a rise to authority, a house, the birth of children and grandchildren, a marriage in the family, a high post of command, visits from friends, and the recovery of lost wealth, property or position.BPHS 47.79–82
- When Shukra is in the 4th house as lord of the 9th or the 10th, BPHS gives authority over a region or a village; pious works such as building reservoirs and temples and giving grain in charity; sweet food every day; energy in work; name and fame; and happiness from spouse and children. - When Shukra is in the 6th, 8th or 12th house, BPHS warns of ill-will with relatives, distress for the spouse, losses in business, loss of cattle, and separation from relatives.BPHS 47.83–84½
- When Shukra is lord of the 2nd or the 7th house, BPHS warns of bodily pain and troubles in his dasha.BPHS 47.88–89
Parashara’s remedy
For relief from these troubles, BPHS prescribes the Shatarudriya or the Mrityunjaya japa, done in the prescribed manner, and giving a cow or a female buffalo in charity.
