Guru mahadasha is about
growth, children, teachers and blessings
Guru · Shukra
Shukra antardasha in Guru mahadasha runs 2 years 8 months. It is the fifth of the nine and begins 7 years 10 months 12 days after the mahadasha starts.
Guru’s 16 years × Shukra’s 20 years ÷ 120
2 years 8 months · 974 days
Ketu antardasha comes before it, and Surya antardasha after it.
Guru counts Shukra an enemy, and Shukra counts Guru neither friend nor enemy (neutral). That natural relationship is where reading a Guru–Shukra period starts; where Guru and Shukra sit in your kundli decides what it brings.
growth, children, teachers and blessings

Guru–Shukra area by area, in plain words, from Parashara’s verses set out below
| Area | What the verses give |
|---|---|
| Work and standing | When it goes well: you gain wealth through the favour of those in power and meet with them; when it is hard: you face danger from the authorities. |
| Money and property | When it goes well: you gain vehicles, livestock, blue and red articles, and unusual income from journeys east; when it is hard: you lose wealth. |
| Family | When it goes well: you find happiness through parents, spouse and children; when it is hard: you quarrel with kinsmen, your spouse and children suffer, and you clash with your father-in-law and brothers. |
| Faith and journeys | When it goes well: you grow devoted to the deities, build water tanks, and give in charity. |
For health, Parashara’s verses on Guru–Shukra give nothing of their own; there the two grahas’ places in your kundli decide.
Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 56, verses 39–50
Parashara reads Shukra’s antardasha in Guru’s mahadasha by where Shukra sits, counted from the lagna and from Guru, and by what it rules; your kundli shows which line is yours, and though the text speaks of a man, its results apply to anyone.
For relief from these troubles, BPHS prescribes giving a tawny (kapila) cow or a female buffalo in charity.
BPHS 56.48–50A caution: When Shukra rules the 2nd or 7th house, BPHS counts this sub-period maraka (a time the texts link with danger to life). It warns of loss of wealth, the fear of untimely death, and friction with one's spouse. BPHS 56.48–50
What Guru and Shukra are for each lagna, as Parashara lists them, and the two read together
Both are hard for Vrishabh (Taurus) lagna, where the period asks for the most care. For Mesh (Aries), Mithun (Gemini), Kark (Cancer), Singh (Leo), Kanya (Virgo), Vrishchik (Scorpio), Makar (Capricorn), Kumbh (Aquarius), Meen (Pisces) lagna one is good and the other hard, so the period is mixed. Where one of the two is neutral, the other decides the lean: towards hard for Tula (Libra), Dhanu (Sagittarius).
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
| Lagna | Guru is (lord of) | Shukra is (lord of) | Together |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Benefic 9th and 12th | Malefic · Maraka 2nd and 7th | Mixed |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 8th and 11th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.23–24) 8th and 11th | Malefic · Maraka— the lagna lord, but also lord of the 6th: a malefic and a killer (34.23–24) 1st and 6th | Hard |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Malefic— lord of the 7th, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Chandra (34.25–26) 7th and 10th | Benefic 5th and 12th | Mixed |
| Kark (Cancer) | Benefic 6th and 9th | Malefic 4th and 11th | Mixed |
| Singh (Leo) | Benefic 5th and 8th | Malefic 3rd and 10th | Mixed |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Malefic— lord of the 7th, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Shukra (34.31–32) 4th and 7th | Benefic · Maraka · Yoga— gives yoga together with Budh (34.32) 2nd and 9th | Mixed |
| Tula (Libra) | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 3rd and 6th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.33–34) 3rd and 6th | Neutral— the lagna lord, which the verse calls neutral (34.34) 1st and 8th | Leans hard |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Benefic— lord of the 2nd, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Shukra (34.35–36) 2nd and 5th | Malefic · Maraka 7th and 12th | Mixed |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Neutral— the lagna lord, which the verse calls neutral (34.38) 1st and 4th | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 6th and 11th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.37–38) 6th and 11th | Leans hard |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Malefic 3rd and 12th | Yogakaraka 5th and 10th | Mixed |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Malefic · Maraka 2nd and 11th | Yogakaraka 4th and 9th | Mixed |
| Meen (Pisces) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Mangal (34.44) 1st and 10th | Malefic 3rd and 8th | Mixed |
“Together” reads Guru and Shukra side by side: both favourable is Favourable; one favourable and one neutral, Leans favourable; one each way, Mixed; one hard and one neutral, Leans hard; both hard, Hard; both neutral, Placement decides. A Yoga pair is two grahas Parashara names together for that lagna.
One kundli that meets Guru–Shukra at 78, read the way the report reads yours
From the Janam Kundli report
Guru rules your 3rd house and 6th house and sits in your 9th house: this period brings those matters forward — effort, courage, younger siblings and short journeys; illness, debt, disputes, and thankless work. Go carefully — short of Shadbala, in an enemy's sign in the navamsa, in an enemy's sign and combust; on the other side: a kendra or trikona and vargottama.
In this kundli it runs 27 March 2069 – 26 November 2071, from the age of 78 to 81. Its length here can differ from the one above by a day, because each kundli’s dates round to the day.
Shukra: rules your 1st house and 8th house, sits in your 9th house. It brings the body, health, temperament and the self; hidden matters, delay, and other people's money. Mixed — a kendra or trikona and strong in the navamsa; on the other side: short of Shadbala.
Shadbala: the six-fold measure of a graha’s strength the report computes; “short of Shadbala” means below the strength the texts ask of it. Vargottama: in the same rashi in the birth chart and in the navamsa, which strengthens a graha. Navamsa: the ninth-division chart, read for a graha’s inner strength. Combust: so close to the Sun that its strength is lost in the Sun’s rays.
Guru–Shukra divides into nine pratyantars from Shukra’s own on. Each length is counted between the dates beside it, and comes out the same in any kundli give or take a day; the dates and readings are this one’s.
| Pratyantar | Length | In this kundli | The report reads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shukra | 5 months 9 days | 27 March 2069 – 5 September 2069 | Mixed |
| Surya | 1 month 19 days | 5 September 2069 – 24 October 2069 | Opens |
| Chandra | 2 months 20 days | 24 October 2069 – 13 January 2070 | Mixed |
| Mangal | 1 month 26 days | 13 January 2070 – 11 March 2070 | Mixed |
| Rahu | 4 months 24 days | 11 March 2070 – 4 August 2070 | Mixed |
| Guru | 4 months 8 days | 4 August 2070 – 12 December 2070 | Care |
| Shani | 5 months 3 days | 12 December 2070 – 15 May 2071 | Opens |
| Budh | 4 months 15 days | 15 May 2071 – 30 September 2071 | Care |
| Ketu | 1 month 27 days | 30 September 2071 – 26 November 2071 | Mixed |

Suggestions for Shukra’s months, which your kundli confirms
Parashara gives Guru–Shukra a remedy of its own (BPHS 56.48–50), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”; it comes first.
ॐ द्रां द्रीं द्रौं सः शुक्राय नमः
Daan: white cloth and rice, on Friday
What helps and what to keep clear of in any Shukra period: Shukra mahadasha. Its vrat, ratna, stotra and puja: Shukra upay.
2 years 8 months (974 days): Guru’s 16 years × Shukra’s 20 years ÷ 120. It begins 7 years 10 months 12 days after a Guru mahadasha starts.
Not in advance: it turns on your lagna and on where Guru and Shukra sit in your kundli. By Parashara’s lists no lagna has both lords favourable. It is hardest for Vrishabh (Taurus) lagna. By nature the friendship is uneven: Guru sees Shukra as an enemy, and Shukra sees Guru as neutral. On the Tula lagna kundli above, the Janam Kundli report reads it as “Mixed”, as its chip above says.
Nine, in the order Shukra, Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Rahu, Guru, Shani, Budh, Ketu. Each is Guru–Shukra’s length × the pratyantar lord’s years ÷ 120, so the longest is Shukra’s, about 5 months 9 days, and the shortest Surya’s, about 1 month 19 days.
Parashara gives this antardasha a remedy of its own (BPHS 56.48–50), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”. The Shukra beej mantra, Om Draam Dreem Draum Sah Shukraya Namah, and a daan of white cloth and rice on Friday are the everyday upay for Guru–Shukra, where your kundli shows the need.
It follows from the Moon’s nakshatra at your birth. Enter your birth details and the whole 120-year timeline comes with it, each period read for your chart.
