Guru mahadasha is about
growth, children, teachers and blessings
Guru · Chandra
Chandra antardasha in Guru mahadasha runs 1 year 4 months. It is the seventh of the nine and begins 11 years 4 months after the mahadasha starts.
Guru’s 16 years × Chandra’s 10 years ÷ 120
1 year 4 months · 487 days
Surya antardasha comes before it, and Mangal antardasha after it.
Guru counts Chandra a friend, and Chandra counts Guru neither friend nor enemy (neutral). That natural relationship is where reading a Guru–Chandra period starts; where Guru and Chandra sit in your kundli decides what it brings.
growth, children, teachers and blessings
the mind, the mother and the home

Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 56, verses 58–64
Parashara reads Chandra’s antardasha in Guru’s mahadasha by where Chandra sits, counted from the lagna and from Guru, and by what it rules; your kundli shows which line is yours, and though the text speaks of a man, its results apply to anyone.
For relief from these troubles, BPHS prescribes reciting the Durga Saptashati.
BPHS 56.64A caution: When Chandra rules the 2nd or 7th house, BPHS warns of distress to the body. The 2nd and 7th are the maraka houses, which the texts link with danger to life. BPHS 56.64
What Guru and Chandra are for each lagna, as Parashara lists them, and the two read together
Both are favourable for Kark (Cancer), Vrishchik (Scorpio), Meen (Pisces) lagna. Both are hard for Vrishabh (Taurus), Mithun (Gemini), Kanya (Virgo), Makar (Capricorn), Kumbh (Aquarius) lagna, where the period asks for the most care. For Singh (Leo) lagna one is good and the other hard, so the period is mixed. Where one of the two is neutral, the other decides the lean: towards good for Mesh (Aries) and towards hard for Tula (Libra). For Dhanu (Sagittarius) lagna both are neutral, and where Guru and Chandra sit decides it.
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
| Lagna | Guru is (lord of) | Chandra is (lord of) | Together |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Benefic 9th and 12th | Neutral 4th | Leans favourable |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 8th and 11th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.23–24) 8th and 11th | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 3rd only, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.23–24) 3rd | Hard |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Malefic— lord of the 7th, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Chandra (34.25–26) 7th and 10th | Maraka 2nd | Hard |
| Kark (Cancer) | Benefic 6th and 9th | Benefic 1st | Favourable |
| Singh (Leo) | Benefic 5th and 8th | Maraka— lord of the 12th only, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.29–30) 12th | Mixed |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Malefic— lord of the 7th, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Shukra (34.31–32) 4th and 7th | Malefic 11th | Hard |
| Tula (Libra) | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 3rd and 6th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.33–34) 3rd and 6th | Neutral · Yoga— gives yoga together with Budh (34.34) 10th | Leans hard |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Benefic— lord of the 2nd, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Shukra (34.35–36) 2nd and 5th | Yogakaraka— as the verse names it, together with Surya, the 10th lord (34.35–36) 9th | Favourable |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Neutral— the lagna lord, which the verse calls neutral (34.38) 1st and 4th | Neutral 8th | Placement decides |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Malefic 3rd and 12th | Malefic— lord of the 7th, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Mangal (34.39–40) 7th | Hard |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Malefic · Maraka 2nd and 11th | Malefic 6th | Hard |
| Meen (Pisces) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Mangal (34.44) 1st and 10th | Benefic 5th | Favourable |
“Together” reads Guru and Chandra side by side: both favourable is Favourable; one favourable and one neutral, Leans favourable; one each way, Mixed; one hard and one neutral, Leans hard; both hard, Hard; both neutral, Placement decides. A Yoga pair is two grahas Parashara names together for that lagna.
One kundli that meets Guru–Chandra at 82, read the way the report reads yours
From the Janam Kundli report
Guru rules your 3rd house and 6th house and sits in your 9th house: this period brings those matters forward — effort, courage, younger siblings and short journeys; illness, debt, disputes, and thankless work. Go carefully — short of Shadbala, in an enemy's sign in the navamsa, in an enemy's sign and combust; on the other side: a kendra or trikona and vargottama.
In this kundli it runs 13 September 2072 – 13 January 2074, from the age of 82 to 83. Its length here can differ from the one above by a day, because each kundli’s dates round to the day.
Chandra: rules your 10th house, sits in your 6th house. It brings work, standing, and those senior to you. Mixed — well placed from Guru and vargottama; on the other side: a difficult house and short of Shadbala.
Shadbala: the six-fold measure of a graha’s strength the report computes; “short of Shadbala” means below the strength the texts ask of it. Vargottama: in the same rashi in the birth chart and in the navamsa, which strengthens a graha. Navamsa: the ninth-division chart, read for a graha’s inner strength. Combust: so close to the Sun that its strength is lost in the Sun’s rays.
Guru–Chandra divides into nine pratyantars from Chandra’s own on. Each length is counted between the dates beside it, and comes out the same in any kundli give or take a day; the dates and readings are this one’s.
| Pratyantar | Length | In this kundli | The report reads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chandra | 1 month 10 days | 13 September 2072 – 23 October 2072 | Care |
| Mangal | 29 days | 23 October 2072 – 21 November 2072 | Mixed |
| Rahu | 2 months 12 days | 21 November 2072 – 2 February 2073 | Opens |
| Guru | 2 months 6 days | 2 February 2073 – 8 April 2073 | Mixed |
| Shani | 2 months 16 days | 8 April 2073 – 24 June 2073 | Opens |
| Budh | 2 months 8 days | 24 June 2073 – 1 September 2073 | Mixed |
| Ketu | 28 days | 1 September 2073 – 29 September 2073 | Mixed |
| Shukra | 2 months 20 days | 29 September 2073 – 19 December 2073 | Mixed |
| Surya | 25 days | 19 December 2073 – 13 January 2074 | Opens |

Suggestions for Chandra’s months, which your kundli confirms
Parashara gives Guru–Chandra a remedy of its own (BPHS 56.64), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”; it comes first.
ॐ श्रां श्रीं श्रौं सः चन्द्राय नमः
Daan: rice and white cloth, on Monday
What helps and what to keep clear of in any Chandra period: Chandra mahadasha. Its vrat, ratna, stotra and puja: Chandra upay.
1 year 4 months (487 days): Guru’s 16 years × Chandra’s 10 years ÷ 120. It begins 11 years 4 months after a Guru mahadasha starts.
Not in advance: it turns on your lagna and on where Guru and Chandra sit in your kundli. By Parashara’s lists it is strongest for Kark (Cancer), Vrishchik (Scorpio), Meen (Pisces) lagna. It is hardest for Vrishabh (Taurus), Mithun (Gemini), Kanya (Virgo), Makar (Capricorn), Kumbh (Aquarius) lagna. By nature the friendship is uneven: Guru sees Chandra as a friend, and Chandra sees Guru as neutral. On the Tula lagna kundli above, the Janam Kundli report reads it as “Mixed”, as its chip above says.
Nine, in the order Chandra, Mangal, Rahu, Guru, Shani, Budh, Ketu, Shukra, Surya. Each is Guru–Chandra’s length × the pratyantar lord’s years ÷ 120, so the longest is Shukra’s, about 2 months 20 days, and the shortest Surya’s, about 25 days.
Parashara gives this antardasha a remedy of its own (BPHS 56.64), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”. The Chandra beej mantra, Om Shraam Shreem Shraum Sah Chandraya Namah, and a daan of rice and white cloth on Monday are the everyday upay for Guru–Chandra, where your kundli shows the need.
It follows from the Moon’s nakshatra at your birth. Enter your birth details and the whole 120-year timeline comes with it, each period read for your chart.
