What Chandra gives in the 5th house by Lal Kitab and by Phaladeepika, its upay, the houses it looks at from there, and what it means for each lagna.
The Moon in the 5th house gives good children and emotional intelligence. Gains from investment are possible.
Lal Kitab reads Chandra in the 5th house by the house, not by your lagna; Parashara’s view for your own lagna is further down, and Phaladeepika and Brihat Jataka may differ. How Lal Kitab and Parashara differ · Lal Kitab: pakka ghar, rin and upay
Offer milk at a Shiva temple on Mondays.
This is Lal Kitab’s one upay for Chandra in the 5th house, to keep its good results strong; it is a suggestion, and your whole kundli may call for another. All upay for Chandra
Phaladeepika 8.6 holds that Chandra (Moon) in the 5th house (the house of children and intellect) gives good children and great intelligence. The text adds a rise to the post of minister, an adviser in the seat of power.
How much of this holds turns on the rest of the chart: the rashi Chandra sits in, the 5th house’s lord and the grahas with it or looking at it. The old texts speak of a man; their readings apply to anyone.
BJ 20.4: the Moon in the 5th gives children.
Its results show most in Chandra’s own mahadasha (10 years) and in its antardashas inside the others. The 5th house’s matters also come forward in the periods of the house’s lord, which depends on your lagna.
Its drishti (a graha’s glance: the houses it looks at feel its influence) from the 5th, by the rules our kundli reading weighs houses with:
The 5th house, Putra bhava, rules children, study, intelligence and love affairs; it is a trikona (the 1st, 5th and 9th houses, the houses of fortune); its karaka (the graha that naturally signifies a house’s matters, whatever the lagna) is Guru. The 5th house, and every graha in it
| Lagna | Chandra sits in | Its state there | Lord of your | For this lagna |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Singh (Leo) | Friendly | 4th | Neutral |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Kanya (Virgo) | Friendly | 3rd | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 3rd only, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.23–24) |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Tula (Libra) | Neutral | 2nd | Maraka |
| Kark (Cancer) | Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Debilitated | 1st | Benefic |
| Singh (Leo) | Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Neutral | 12th | Maraka— lord of the 12th only, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.29–30) |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Makar (Capricorn) | Neutral | 11th | Malefic |
| Tula (Libra) | Kumbh (Aquarius) | Neutral | 10th | Neutral · Yoga— gives yoga together with Budh (34.34) |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Meen (Pisces) | Neutral | 9th | Yogakaraka— as the verse names it, together with Surya, the 10th lord (34.35–36) |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Mesh (Aries) | Neutral | 8th | Neutral |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Vrishabh (Taurus) | Exalted | 7th | Malefic— lord of the 7th, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Mangal (34.39–40) |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Mithun (Gemini) | Friendly | 6th | Malefic |
| Meen (Pisces) | Kark (Cancer) | Own rashi | 5th | Benefic |
Chandra’s state in each rashi, and the houses it rules for each lagna, as our free kundli reads them (BPHS chapter 34); each house links to what Parashara says of its lord sitting in the 5th. “Its state there” is how that rashi treats Chandra: exalted, own, friendly, neutral (sam), enemy or debilitated. “For this lagna” is Parashara’s verdict on the houses it rules. The two answer different questions.
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
Take Kark lagna. Chandra sits in Vrishchik there (debilitated) and rules your 1st house, which makes it a benefic for Kark lagna (BPHS 34). The two pull apart: the label says what it does for this lagna, the rashi how much strength it has to do it, so it gives less of that good than its label promises, unless a neecha bhanga (a cancelled debility) lifts it. The Lal Kitab reading above is the same for every lagna; this row is the part that changes with yours.
By Brihat Jataka 20.11, Chandra in the 5th house gives its good in full for Makar lagna, half for Meen lagna, a quarter for Mesh, Vrishabh and Kumbh lagna and none for Kark lagna, by the rashi it sits in. The verse gives no share for a neutral rashi, which is where it sits for Mithun, Singh, Kanya, Tula, Vrishchik and Dhanu lagna. BJ 20.10–11
Not the birth placement above: here Chandra is moving through the 5th counted from your Moon rashi. Phaladeepika does not count the 5th among Chandra’s good transit houses (all twelve, on the Chandra page). Our Monthly Prediction reads it as mixed: creative mood, children, feelings come out.
Lal Kitab counts it a good placement, one of the 8 houses where Chandra does well (with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 7th, 9th and 11th). By its rashi, it is strongest for Makar and Meen lagna; it is debilitated for Kark lagna.
Lal Kitab’s upay for it: Offer milk at a Shiva temple on Mondays.
