What Shani gives in the 5th house by Lal Kitab and by Phaladeepika, its upay, the houses it looks at from there, and what it means for each lagna.
Saturn in the 5th house delays children, gives pessimistic thinking, and may cause stomach problems.
Lal Kitab reads Shani in the 5th house by the house, not by your lagna; Parashara’s view for your own lagna is further down, and Phaladeepika and Brihat Jataka may differ. How Lal Kitab and Parashara differ · Lal Kitab: pakka ghar, rin and upay

This is Lal Kitab’s one upay for Shani in the 5th house, offered to ease its harder side; it is a suggestion, and your whole kundli may call for another. All upay for Shani
Phaladeepika 8.22 holds that Shani (Saturn) in the 5th house (the house of children and intellect) brings restless wandering and a troubled, unsettled mind. The text speaks of a lack of children, wealth and happiness, and describes the person as untrustworthy and ill-intentioned.
How much of this holds turns on the rest of the chart: the rashi Shani sits in, the 5th house’s lord and the grahas with it or looking at it. The old texts speak of a man; their readings apply to anyone.
BJ 20.9 gives Shani in the 5th the same result as the Sun there (20.2): a lack of children and of wealth.
Its results show most in Shani’s own mahadasha (19 years) and in its antardashas inside the others. The 5th house’s matters also come forward in the periods of the house’s lord, which depends on your lagna.
Its drishti (a graha’s glance: the houses it looks at feel its influence) from the 5th, by the rules our kundli reading weighs houses with:
The 5th house, Putra bhava, rules children, study, intelligence and love affairs; it is a trikona (the 1st, 5th and 9th houses, the houses of fortune); its karaka (the graha that naturally signifies a house’s matters, whatever the lagna) is Guru. The 5th house, and every graha in it
| Lagna | Shani sits in | Its state there | Lord of your | For this lagna |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Singh (Leo) | Enemy | 10th and 11th | Malefic |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Kanya (Virgo) | Friendly | 9th and 10th | Yogakaraka |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Tula (Libra) | Exalted | 8th and 9th | Neutral |
| Kark (Cancer) | Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Enemy | 7th and 8th | Maraka |
| Singh (Leo) | Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Neutral | 6th and 7th | Malefic · Maraka |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Makar (Capricorn) | Own rashi | 5th and 6th | Neutral |
| Tula (Libra) | Kumbh (Aquarius) | Own rashi | 4th and 5th | Yogakaraka |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Meen (Pisces) | Neutral | 3rd and 4th | Malefic |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Mesh (Aries) | Debilitated | 2nd and 3rd | Maraka |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Vrishabh (Taurus) | Friendly | 1st and 2nd | Neutral— the lagna lord; not a killer on his own, the verse says (34.39) |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Mithun (Gemini) | Friendly | 1st and 12th | Benefic— the lagna lord, and one the verse itself names auspicious for Kumbh (34.41) |
| Meen (Pisces) | Kark (Cancer) | Enemy | 11th and 12th | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 11th and 12th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.43–44) |
Shani’s state in each rashi, and the houses it rules for each lagna, as our free kundli reads them (BPHS chapter 34); each house links to what Parashara says of its lord sitting in the 5th. “Its state there” is how that rashi treats Shani: exalted, own, friendly, neutral (sam), enemy or debilitated. “For this lagna” is Parashara’s verdict on the houses it rules. The two answer different questions.
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
Take Tula lagna. Shani sits in Kumbh there (own rashi) and rules your 4th and 5th houses, which makes it a yogakaraka for Tula lagna (BPHS 34). Both point the same way, a graha good for the lagna and strong in its rashi: the best this table holds. The Lal Kitab reading above is the same for every lagna; this row is the part that changes with yours.
Brihat Jataka 20.11 grades how much of its good a graha gives by the rashi it sits in. For a malefic like Shani the translator reverses the scale and the commentators differ, so read Shani in the 5th house by Parashara’s table above. BJ 20.10–11
Not the birth placement above: here Shani is moving through the 5th counted from your Moon rashi. Phaladeepika does not count the 5th among Shani’s good transit houses (all twelve, on the Shani page). Our Monthly Prediction reads it as difficult: children’s matters take time, study needs effort, discipline in creative work.
Lal Kitab counts it a hard placement; Shani does well in the 3rd, 6th, 7th, 8th, 10th and 11th. By its rashi, it is strongest for Mithun, Kanya and Tula lagna; it is debilitated for Dhanu lagna.
Lal Kitab’s upay for it: Offer almonds at a temple; donate black items on Saturdays.
The 7th (marriage), 11th (income) and 2nd (money saved).
