What Chandra gives in the 6th house by Lal Kitab and by Phaladeepika, its upay, the houses it looks at from there, and what it means for each lagna.
The Moon in the 6th house makes a person prone to cold, cough, and waterborne ailments. Enemies may cause mental stress.
Lal Kitab reads Chandra in the 6th house by the house, not by your lagna; Parashara’s view for your own lagna is further down, and Phaladeepika and Brihat Jataka may differ. How Lal Kitab and Parashara differ · Lal Kitab: pakka ghar, rin and upay
Donate milk and rice to the poor. Keep rainwater in a silver vessel.
This is Lal Kitab’s one upay for Chandra in the 6th house, offered to ease its harder side; it is a suggestion, and your whole kundli may call for another. All upay for Chandra
Phaladeepika 8.6 holds that Chandra (Moon) in the 6th house (the house of enemies and disease) brings stomach ailments, humiliation and a lack of learning. As a caution, the text warns of a short life.
How much of this holds turns on the rest of the chart: the rashi Chandra sits in, the 6th house’s lord and the grahas with it or looking at it. The old texts speak of a man; their readings apply to anyone.
BJ 20.4: the Moon in the 6th brings many enemies, a delicate constitution, weak digestion and weak desire, with a harsh temper and slackness in work.
Its results show most in Chandra’s own mahadasha (10 years) and in its antardashas inside the others. The 6th house’s matters also come forward in the periods of the house’s lord, which depends on your lagna.
Its drishti (a graha’s glance: the houses it looks at feel its influence) from the 6th, by the rules our kundli reading weighs houses with:
The 6th house, Ripu bhava, rules illness, debt, rivals, service and daily work; it is a dusthana (the 6th, 8th and 12th houses, the hard houses of illness, sudden events and loss) and an upachaya (the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th houses, which grow better with time and effort); its karaka (the graha that naturally signifies a house’s matters, whatever the lagna) is Mangal, Shani. The 6th house, and every graha in it
| Lagna | Chandra sits in | Its state there | Lord of your | For this lagna |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Kanya (Virgo) | Friendly | 4th | Neutral |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Tula (Libra) | Neutral | 3rd | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 3rd only, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.23–24) |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Debilitated | 2nd | Maraka |
| Kark (Cancer) | Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Neutral | 1st | Benefic |
| Singh (Leo) | Makar (Capricorn) | Neutral | 12th | Maraka— lord of the 12th only, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.29–30) |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Kumbh (Aquarius) | Neutral | 11th | Malefic |
| Tula (Libra) | Meen (Pisces) | Neutral | 10th | Neutral · Yoga— gives yoga together with Budh (34.34) |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Mesh (Aries) | Neutral | 9th | Yogakaraka— as the verse names it, together with Surya, the 10th lord (34.35–36) |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Vrishabh (Taurus) | Exalted | 8th | Neutral |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Mithun (Gemini) | Friendly | 7th | Malefic— lord of the 7th, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Mangal (34.39–40) |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Kark (Cancer) | Own rashi | 6th | Malefic |
| Meen (Pisces) | Singh (Leo) | Friendly | 5th | Benefic |
The 6th is a dusthana, one of the hard houses. Where the table calls Chandra a yogakaraka (the graha that brings yoga, success and standing, to a lagna: the best it can have) or a benefic for a lagna, sitting here it gives less than its lordship promises.
Chandra’s state in each rashi, and the houses it rules for each lagna, as our free kundli reads them (BPHS chapter 34); each house links to what Parashara says of its lord sitting in the 6th. “Its state there” is how that rashi treats Chandra: exalted, own, friendly, neutral (sam), enemy or debilitated. “For this lagna” is Parashara’s verdict on the houses it rules. The two answer different questions.
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
Take Kumbh lagna. Chandra sits in Kark there (own rashi) and rules your 6th house, which makes it a malefic for Kumbh lagna (BPHS 34). A graha hard for the lagna and strong in its rashi gives that harder side with force. The Lal Kitab reading above is the same for every lagna; this row is the part that changes with yours.
By Brihat Jataka 20.11, Chandra in the 6th house gives its good in full for Dhanu lagna, half for Kumbh lagna, a quarter for Mesh, Makar and Meen lagna and none for Mithun lagna, by the rashi it sits in. The verse gives no share for a neutral rashi, which is where it sits for Vrishabh, Kark, Singh, Kanya, Tula and Vrishchik lagna. BJ 20.10–11
Not the birth placement above: here Chandra is moving through the 6th counted from your Moon rashi. Phaladeepika counts the 6th among Chandra’s good transit houses (all twelve, on the Chandra page). Our Monthly Prediction reads it as good: good health, happiness, wins over rivals.
Lal Kitab counts it a hard placement; Chandra does well in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th. By its rashi, it is strongest for Dhanu and Kumbh lagna; it is debilitated for Mithun lagna.
Lal Kitab’s upay for it: Donate milk and rice to the poor; keep rainwater in a silver vessel.
The 12th (expenses).
