Uchcha: the rashi where a graha is strongest; neech: where it is weakest. Moolatrikona: the rashi where it works most like itself, ranked just below uchcha. Drishti: the graha’s glance; the houses it looks at feel its influence. Mukhi: the number of natural lines on a rudraksha bead. Beej mantra: the graha’s seed sound, chanted with a count.

Chandra in each bhava

by Lal Kitab, with its upay on each page

Lal Kitab is a 20th-century, house-based system: it reads every kundli as if Mesh rose, so its "good" or "hard" is about the house, not about your lagna. Its pakka ghar is the house it treats as a graha’s permanent home. For what the graha is for your own lagna, read Parashara’s table further down. Lal Kitab and Parashara are two different systems, read side by side. Lal Kitab: pakka ghar, rin and upay

What each of the 12 bhavas rules

Chandra in each bhava, by Phaladeepika

Mantreswara’s classic, Adhyaya 8, sloka by sloka

The old texts read one placement at a time and speak of a man; they apply to anyone. In a real kundli, the rashi Chandra sits in, the house’s lord and the grahas that join or look at it decide how much of each reading holds.

1st house

Phaladeepika 8.5 holds that a waxing Chandra (Moon), one growing towards full in shukla paksha (the bright fortnight), in the lagna (the ascendant, 1st house) gives a strong constitution and a long life. The text adds fearlessness, great strength and wealth. If Chandra in the lagna is waning, in krishna paksha (the dark fortnight), Phaladeepika holds that these results are reversed. Phaladeepika 8.5

2nd house

Phaladeepika 8.5 holds that Chandra (Moon) in the 2nd house (the house of wealth and speech) makes a person rich, and either very learned or gentle of speech. The text adds a love of pleasure and some defect in a limb. Phaladeepika 8.5

3rd house

Phaladeepika 8.5 holds that Chandra (Moon) in the 3rd house (the house of siblings and courage) gives brothers, strength and power. The text adds a strongly sensual nature and a very tight hand with money. Phaladeepika 8.5

4th house

Phaladeepika 8.6 holds that Chandra (Moon) in the 4th house (the house of home, mother and comforts) brings happiness and the enjoyment of life's pleasures. The text adds generosity in giving, friends, vehicles and renown. Phaladeepika 8.6

5th house

Phaladeepika 8.6 holds that Chandra (Moon) in the 5th house (the house of children and intellect) gives good children and great intelligence. The text adds a rise to the post of minister, an adviser in the seat of power. Phaladeepika 8.6

6th house

Phaladeepika 8.6 holds that Chandra (Moon) in the 6th house (the house of enemies and disease) brings stomach ailments, humiliation and a lack of learning. As a caution, the text warns of a short life. Phaladeepika 8.6

7th house

Phaladeepika 8.6 holds that Chandra (Moon) in the 7th house (the house of marriage and partnership) makes a person pleasant to look at and exceedingly attractive. The text adds the love of a beautiful partner. Phaladeepika 8.6

8th house

Phaladeepika 8.7 holds that Chandra (Moon) in the 8th house (the house of longevity and hidden matters) brings illness. The text also counts it among the signs of a short life, which it gives as a caution. Phaladeepika 8.7

9th house

Phaladeepika 8.7 holds that Chandra (Moon) in the 9th house (the house of fortune and dharma) gives prosperity, virtue and children. The text adds victory, and success in every undertaking from its very start. Phaladeepika 8.7

10th house

Phaladeepika 8.7 holds that Chandra (Moon) in the 10th house (the house of career and conduct) leads a person to good deeds. The text adds that such a person helps the virtuous. Phaladeepika 8.7

11th house

Phaladeepika 8.7 holds that Chandra (Moon) in the 11th house (the house of gains) makes a person high-minded and long-lived. The text adds wealth, children and people in one's employ. Phaladeepika 8.7

12th house

Phaladeepika 8.7 holds that Chandra (Moon) in the 12th house (the house of loss and expense) makes a person disliked by others and brings misery and insult. The text adds a strong tendency to idleness. Phaladeepika 8.7
