Shukra mahadasha is about
marriage, comforts and the arts
Shukra · Mangal
Mangal antardasha in Shukra mahadasha runs 1 year 2 months. It is the fourth of the nine and begins 6 years after the mahadasha starts.
Shukra’s 20 years × Mangal’s 7 years ÷ 120
1 year 2 months · 426 days
Chandra antardasha comes before it, and Rahu antardasha after it.
Shukra and Mangal are neither friends nor enemies to each other (neutral). That natural relationship is where reading a Shukra–Mangal period starts; where Shukra and Mangal sit in your kundli decides what it brings.
marriage, comforts and the arts
effort, property and disputes
Shukra–Mangal area by area, in plain words, from Parashara’s verses set out below
| Area | What the verses give |
|---|---|
| Work and standing | When it goes well: a rise to authority or command; when it is hard: loss of position, friction with those in power and losses in your profession. |
| Money and property | When it goes well: gains of property, clothes, ornaments and land; when it is hard: heavy spending and loss of land or property. |
| Family | When it is hard: fever-like illness for the parents. |
| Health | When it is hard: chills with fever and physical distress. |
For faith and journeys, Parashara’s verses on Shukra–Mangal give nothing of their own; there the two grahas’ places in your kundli decide.
Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 60, verses 30–35
Parashara reads Mangal’s antardasha in Shukra’s mahadasha by where Mangal sits, counted from the lagna and from Shukra, and by what it rules; your kundli shows which line is yours, and though the text speaks of a man, its results apply to anyone.
A caution: When Mangal rules your 2nd or 7th house (the maraka houses, which the texts link with danger to life), BPHS warns of physical distress, losses in one's profession and loss of land or property, and asks for care. BPHS 60.35
These verses give no remedy of their own for Mangal’s antardasha in Shukra’s mahadasha; the everyday upay for Mangal are below.
What Shukra and Mangal are for each lagna, as Parashara lists them, and the two read together
Both are hard for Vrishabh (Taurus) lagna, where the period asks for the most care. For Mesh (Aries), Mithun (Gemini), Kark (Cancer), Singh (Leo), Kanya (Virgo), Dhanu (Sagittarius), Makar (Capricorn), Kumbh (Aquarius), Meen (Pisces) lagna one is good and the other hard, so the period is mixed. Where one of the two is neutral, the other decides the lean: towards hard for Tula (Libra), Vrishchik (Scorpio).
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
| Lagna | Shukra is (lord of) | Mangal is (lord of) | Together |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Malefic · Maraka 2nd and 7th | Benefic 1st and 8th | Mixed |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Malefic · Maraka— the lagna lord, but also lord of the 6th: a malefic and a killer (34.23–24) 1st and 6th | Maraka 7th and 12th | Hard |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Benefic 5th and 12th | Malefic 6th and 11th | Mixed |
| Kark (Cancer) | Malefic 4th and 11th | Yogakaraka 5th and 10th | Mixed |
| Singh (Leo) | Malefic 3rd and 10th | Yogakaraka 4th and 9th | Mixed |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Benefic · Maraka · Yoga— gives yoga together with Budh (34.32) 2nd and 9th | Malefic 3rd and 8th | Mixed |
| Tula (Libra) | Neutral— the lagna lord, which the verse calls neutral (34.34) 1st and 8th | Malefic · Maraka 2nd and 7th | Leans hard |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Malefic · Maraka 7th and 12th | Neutral 1st and 6th | Leans hard |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 6th and 11th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.37–38) 6th and 11th | Benefic 5th and 12th | Mixed |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Yogakaraka 5th and 10th | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 4th and 11th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.39–40) 4th and 11th | Mixed |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Yogakaraka 4th and 9th | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 3rd and 10th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.41–42) 3rd and 10th | Mixed |
| Meen (Pisces) | Malefic 3rd and 8th | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Guru (34.44)— also named a killer, though not one who kills on his own (34.44) 2nd and 9th | Mixed |
“Together” reads Shukra and Mangal side by side: both favourable is Favourable; one favourable and one neutral, Leans favourable; one each way, Mixed; one hard and one neutral, Leans hard; both hard, Hard; both neutral, Placement decides. A Yoga pair is two grahas Parashara names together for that lagna.
One kundli that meets Shukra–Mangal at 80, read the way the report reads yours
From the Janam Kundli report
Shukra rules your 6th house and 11th house and sits in your 1st house: this period brings those matters forward — illness, debt, disputes, and thankless work; income, gains, elder siblings, and friends who help. Mixed — a kendra or trikona and strong in the navamsa; on the other side: short of Shadbala.
In this kundli it runs 21 August 2064 – 21 October 2065, from the age of 80 to 81. Its length here can differ from the one above by a day, because each kundli’s dates round to the day.
Mangal: rules your 5th house and 12th house, sits in your 11th house. It brings children, study, and creative work; spending, sleep, foreign places, and what is given away. Favourable — a house of wealth or gain, lord of a trikona, well placed from Shukra, enough Shadbala and strong in the navamsa.
Shadbala: the six-fold measure of a graha’s strength the report computes; “short of Shadbala” means below the strength the texts ask of it. Navamsa: the ninth-division chart, read for a graha’s inner strength.
Shukra–Mangal divides into nine pratyantars from Mangal’s own on. Each length is counted between the dates beside it, and comes out the same in any kundli give or take a day; the dates and readings are this one’s.
| Pratyantar | Length | In this kundli | The report reads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mangal | 24 days | 21 August 2064 – 14 September 2064 | Opens |
| Rahu | 2 months 3 days | 14 September 2064 – 17 November 2064 | Care |
| Guru | 1 month 27 days | 17 November 2064 – 13 January 2065 | Mixed |
| Shani | 2 months 9 days | 13 January 2065 – 22 March 2065 | Mixed |
| Budh | 1 month 29 days | 22 March 2065 – 21 May 2065 | Mixed |
| Ketu | 25 days | 21 May 2065 – 15 June 2065 | Mixed |
| Shukra | 2 months 10 days | 15 June 2065 – 25 August 2065 | Mixed |
| Surya | 21 days | 25 August 2065 – 15 September 2065 | Mixed |
| Chandra | 1 month 6 days | 15 September 2065 – 21 October 2065 | Mixed |

Suggestions for Mangal’s months, which your kundli confirms
Parashara’s verses give Shukra–Mangal no remedy of their own, so the everyday upay for Mangal carry it.
ॐ क्रां क्रीं क्रौं सः भौमाय नमः
Daan: red lentils and jaggery, on Tuesday
What helps and what to keep clear of in any Mangal period: Mangal mahadasha. Its vrat, ratna, stotra and puja: Mangal upay.
1 year 2 months (426 days): Shukra’s 20 years × Mangal’s 7 years ÷ 120. It begins 6 years after a Shukra mahadasha starts.
Not in advance: it turns on your lagna and on where Shukra and Mangal sit in your kundli. By Parashara’s lists no lagna has both lords favourable. It is hardest for Vrishabh (Taurus) lagna. By nature the two are neither friends nor enemies. On the Dhanu lagna kundli above, the Janam Kundli report reads it as “Opens”, as its chip above says.
Nine, in the order Mangal, Rahu, Guru, Shani, Budh, Ketu, Shukra, Surya, Chandra. Each is Shukra–Mangal’s length × the pratyantar lord’s years ÷ 120, so the longest is Shukra’s, about 2 months 10 days, and the shortest Surya’s, about 21 days.
The Mangal beej mantra, Om Kraam Kreem Kraum Sah Bhaumaya Namah, and a daan of red lentils and jaggery on Tuesday are the everyday upay for Shukra–Mangal, where your kundli shows the need.
