Shukra mahadasha is about
marriage, comforts and the arts
Shukra · Shani
Shani antardasha in Shukra mahadasha runs 3 years 2 months. It is the seventh of the nine and begins 12 years 10 months after the mahadasha starts.
Shukra’s 20 years × Shani’s 19 years ÷ 120
3 years 2 months · 1,157 days
Guru antardasha comes before it, and Budh antardasha after it.
Shukra and Shani are friends to each other. That natural relationship is where reading a Shukra–Shani period starts; where Shukra and Shani sit in your kundli decides what it brings.

Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 60, verses 52–59
Parashara reads Shani’s antardasha in Shukra’s mahadasha by where Shani sits, counted from the lagna and from Shukra, and by what it rules; your kundli shows which line is yours, and though the text speaks of a man, its results apply to anyone.
For relief, BPHS prescribes a havan (fire offering) with sesame seeds (til), the Mahamrityunjaya japa, and recitation of the Durga Saptashati, done oneself or through a Brahmin.
BPHS 60.58–59A caution: When Shani rules your 2nd or 7th house (the maraka houses, which the texts link with danger to life), BPHS warns of physical distress and asks for care with health. BPHS 60.57
What Shukra and Shani are for each lagna, as Parashara lists them, and the two read together
Both are favourable for Kumbh (Aquarius) lagna. Both are hard for Mesh (Aries), Kark (Cancer), Singh (Leo), Vrishchik (Scorpio), Dhanu (Sagittarius), Meen (Pisces) lagna, where the period asks for the most care. For Vrishabh (Taurus) lagna one is good and the other hard, so the period is mixed. Where one of the two is neutral, the other decides the lean: towards good for Mithun (Gemini), Kanya (Virgo), Tula (Libra), Makar (Capricorn).
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
| Lagna | Shukra is (lord of) | Shani is (lord of) | Together |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Malefic · Maraka 2nd and 7th | Malefic 10th and 11th | Hard |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Malefic · Maraka— the lagna lord, but also lord of the 6th: a malefic and a killer (34.23–24) 1st and 6th | Yogakaraka 9th and 10th | Mixed |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Benefic 5th and 12th | Neutral 8th and 9th | Leans favourable |
| Kark (Cancer) | Malefic 4th and 11th | Maraka 7th and 8th | Hard |
| Singh (Leo) | Malefic 3rd and 10th | Malefic · Maraka 6th and 7th | Hard |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Benefic · Maraka · Yoga— gives yoga together with Budh (34.32) 2nd and 9th | Neutral 5th and 6th | Leans favourable |
| Tula (Libra) | Neutral— the lagna lord, which the verse calls neutral (34.34) 1st and 8th | Yogakaraka 4th and 5th | Leans favourable |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Malefic · Maraka 7th and 12th | Malefic 3rd and 4th | Hard |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 6th and 11th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.37–38) 6th and 11th | Maraka 2nd and 3rd | Hard |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Yogakaraka 5th and 10th | Neutral— the lagna lord; not a killer on his own, the verse says (34.39) 1st and 2nd | Leans favourable |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Yogakaraka 4th and 9th | Benefic— the lagna lord, and one the verse itself names auspicious for Kumbh (34.41) 1st and 12th | Favourable |
| Meen (Pisces) | Malefic 3rd and 8th | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 11th and 12th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.43–44) 11th and 12th | Hard |
“Together” reads Shukra and Shani side by side: both favourable is Favourable; one favourable and one neutral, Leans favourable; one each way, Mixed; one hard and one neutral, Leans hard; both hard, Hard; both neutral, Placement decides. A Yoga pair is two grahas Parashara names together for that lagna.
One kundli that meets Shukra–Shani at 87, read the way the report reads yours
From the Janam Kundli report
Shukra rules your 6th house and 11th house and sits in your 1st house: this period brings those matters forward — illness, debt, disputes, and thankless work; income, gains, elder siblings, and friends who help. Mixed — a kendra or trikona and strong in the navamsa; on the other side: short of Shadbala.
In this kundli it runs 21 June 2071 – 21 August 2074, from the age of 87 to 90. Its length here can differ from the one above by a day, because each kundli’s dates round to the day.
Shani: rules your 2nd house and 3rd house, sits in your 11th house. It brings the money at hand, the family, and speech; effort, courage, younger siblings and short journeys. Mixed — a house of wealth or gain, strong in its sign and well placed from Shukra; on the other side: short of Shadbala and debilitated in the navamsa.
Shadbala: the six-fold measure of a graha’s strength the report computes; “short of Shadbala” means below the strength the texts ask of it. Navamsa: the ninth-division chart, read for a graha’s inner strength. Debilitated: in its sign of fall, where a graha is weakest.
Shukra–Shani divides into nine pratyantars from Shani’s own on. Each length is counted between the dates beside it, and comes out the same in any kundli give or take a day; the dates and readings are this one’s.
| Pratyantar | Length | In this kundli | The report reads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shani | 6 months 1 day | 21 June 2071 – 22 December 2071 | Mixed |
| Budh | 5 months 11 days | 22 December 2071 – 2 June 2072 | Mixed |
| Ketu | 2 months 7 days | 2 June 2072 – 9 August 2072 | Mixed |
| Shukra | 6 months 9 days | 9 August 2072 – 18 February 2073 | Mixed |
| Surya | 1 month 29 days | 18 February 2073 – 16 April 2073 | Mixed |
| Chandra | 3 months 6 days | 16 April 2073 – 22 July 2073 | Mixed |
| Mangal | 2 months 5 days | 22 July 2073 – 27 September 2073 | Opens |
| Rahu | 5 months 21 days | 27 September 2073 – 20 March 2074 | Care |
| Guru | 5 months 1 day | 20 March 2074 – 21 August 2074 | Mixed |

Suggestions for Shani’s months, which your kundli confirms
Parashara gives Shukra–Shani a remedy of its own (BPHS 60.58–59), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”; it comes first.
ॐ प्रां प्रीं प्रौं सः शनैश्चराय नमः
Daan: black sesame and iron, on Saturday
What helps and what to keep clear of in any Shani period: Shani mahadasha. Its vrat, ratna, stotra and puja: Shani upay.
3 years 2 months (1,157 days): Shukra’s 20 years × Shani’s 19 years ÷ 120. It begins 12 years 10 months after a Shukra mahadasha starts.
Not in advance: it turns on your lagna and on where Shukra and Shani sit in your kundli. By Parashara’s lists it is strongest for Kumbh (Aquarius) lagna. It is hardest for Mesh (Aries), Kark (Cancer), Singh (Leo), Vrishchik (Scorpio), Dhanu (Sagittarius), Meen (Pisces) lagna. By nature the two are friends. On the Dhanu lagna kundli above, the Janam Kundli report reads it as “Mixed”, as its chip above says.
Nine, in the order Shani, Budh, Ketu, Shukra, Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Rahu, Guru. Each is Shukra–Shani’s length × the pratyantar lord’s years ÷ 120, so the longest is Shukra’s, about 6 months 9 days, and the shortest Surya’s, about 1 month 29 days.
Parashara gives this antardasha a remedy of its own (BPHS 60.58–59), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”. The Shani beej mantra, Om Praam Preem Praum Sah Shanaishcharaya Namah, and a daan of black sesame and iron on Saturday are the everyday upay for Shukra–Shani, where your kundli shows the need.
