Parashara reads Shukra’s own antardasha by where Shukra sits from the lagna and by what it rules; your kundli shows which line is yours, and though the text speaks of a man, its results apply to anyone.
When it goes well
- When Shukra (Venus) is strong and in a kendra (the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house), a trikona (the 1st, 5th or 9th house) or the 11th house, BPHS gives gains of wealth and livestock through Brahmins (priests and learned men), celebrations for the birth of a son, well-being, recognition from those in power, and a rise to authority or a position of command.BPHS 60.1–2½
- When Shukra (Venus) is in his exaltation or own sign, or in his exaltation or own navamsa (the ninth-division chart), BPHS gives the building of a new house, sweet foods, happiness for the spouse and children, the company of a friend, the giving of grain in charity, the favour of those in power, gains of clothes, vehicles and ornaments, success in business, more livestock, and gains of garments through journeys to the west.BPHS 60.3–6
- When Shukra (Venus) is joined or aspected by a benefic graha, sits in a friendly navamsa (the ninth-division chart), and is in the 3rd, 6th or 11th house, BPHS gives a rise to authority or a position of command, enthusiasm, the favour of those in power, well-being in the family, and growth in family, children and wealth.BPHS 60.7–8
When it is hard
- When Shukra (Venus) is joined or aspected by a malefic graha in the 6th, 8th or 12th house, BPHS warns of danger from thieves, friction with government officials, the loss of friends and relatives, and distress to the spouse and children.BPHS 60.9–10
Parashara’s remedy
For relief, BPHS prescribes the Durga Path (recitation of the Durga Saptashati) and giving a cow in charity.
BPHS 60.11A caution: When Shukra rules your 2nd or 7th house, BPHS counts this a maraka period (one the texts link with danger to life). It warns of the fear of death and asks for care with health. BPHS 60.11

Shukra is favourable for Mithun (Gemini), Kanya (Virgo), Makar (Capricorn), Kumbh (Aquarius) lagna. Shukra is hard for Mesh (Aries), Vrishabh (Taurus), Kark (Cancer), Singh (Leo), Vrishchik (Scorpio), Dhanu (Sagittarius), Meen (Pisces) lagna, where the period asks for the most care. For Tula (Libra) lagna Shukra is neutral, and where it sits decides the period.

- Yogakaraka: the strongest graha a lagna can have: the one Parashara names as bringing yoga, or the one lord of both a kendra (1st, 4th, 7th, 10th) and a trikona (1st, 5th, 9th) (34.13)
- Benefic, Malefic, Neutral: works for the lagna; brings its harder matters; neither
- Lagna lord: the lagna’s own graha, where the verse calls it neither good nor hard
