Ketu mahadasha is about
letting go, the inward and the sudden
Ketu · Budh
Budh antardasha in Ketu mahadasha runs 11 months 27 days. It is the ninth of the nine and begins 6 years 3 days after the mahadasha starts.
Ketu’s 7 years × Budh’s 17 years ÷ 120
11 months 27 days · 362 days
Shani antardasha comes before it, and it closes the mahadasha; Shukra mahadasha begins when it ends. The last months of a mahadasha, where one period hands over to the next, are called dasha sandhi (the junction), and the tradition reads them with care.
Ketu and Budh are neither friends nor enemies to each other (neutral). That natural relationship is where reading a Ketu–Budh period starts; where Ketu and Budh sit in your kundli decides what it brings. Texts differ on the friendships of Rahu and Ketu; this is the table the kundli here uses.

Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 59, verses 69–79
Parashara reads Budh’s antardasha in Ketu’s mahadasha by where Budh sits, counted from the lagna and from Ketu, and by what it rules; your kundli shows which line is yours, and though the text speaks of a man, its results apply to anyone.
For relief, BPHS prescribes reciting the Vishnu Sahasranama, the thousand names of Vishnu.
BPHS 59.79How it unfolds: When Budh is joined by Shani, Mangal or Rahu in the 6th, 8th or 12th, the text sees some good at the start, better results in the middle and an inauspicious end. When Budh is weak in the 6th, 8th or 12th from Ketu, trouble comes at the start and visits to sacred places in the middle. BPHS 59.73–78
A caution: When Budh rules your 2nd or 7th house, BPHS counts this a maraka period (one the texts link with danger to life). It warns of the danger of an untimely death and asks for care with health. BPHS 59.78–79
What Budh is for each lagna, as Parashara lists it; Ketu follows the lord of its rashi
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
| Lagna | Budh is (lord of) |
|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Malefic 3rd and 6th |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Mildly malefic— lord of the 2nd and 5th, which the verse calls 'somewhat inauspicious' (34.23) and does not name among the killers 2nd and 5th |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Lagna lord— the lagna lord, which the verse leaves unjudged: 34.25 names only Shukra auspicious for Mithun 1st and 4th |
| Kark (Cancer) | Malefic 3rd and 12th |
| Singh (Leo) | Malefic— lord of the 2nd, but the killers the verse names for this lagna are Shani and Chandra (34.29–30) 2nd and 11th |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Shukra (34.32) 1st and 10th |
| Tula (Libra) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Chandra (34.34) 9th and 12th |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Malefic 8th and 11th |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Surya (34.38)— lord of the 7th, but the killers the verse names for this lagna are Shani and Shukra (34.37–38) 7th and 10th |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Benefic 6th and 9th |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Neutral— gives mixed results (34.42) 5th and 8th |
| Meen (Pisces) | Malefic · Maraka 4th and 7th |
Ketu rules no house, so no lagna makes it good or bad by lordship: it gives the results of the house it sits in and of the lord of that rashi. Ketu in each house shows how.
One kundli that meets Ketu–Budh at 73, read the way the report reads yours
From the Janam Kundli report
Ketu sits in your 12th house: this period brings its matters forward — spending, sleep, foreign places, and what is given away. A node gives the results of the lord of its sign: here Mangal, which rules your 5th house and 12th house and sits in your 11th house. Mixed — its sign's lord well placed; on the other side: a difficult house.
In this kundli it runs 24 August 2057 – 21 August 2058, from the age of 73 to 74. Its length here can differ from the one above by a day, because each kundli’s dates round to the day.
Budh: rules your 7th house and 10th house, sits in your 1st house. It brings the spouse, partners, and those one deals with; work, standing, and those senior to you. Mixed — a kendra or trikona; on the other side: short of Shadbala.
Shadbala: the six-fold measure of a graha’s strength the report computes; “short of Shadbala” means below the strength the texts ask of it.
Ketu–Budh divides into nine pratyantars from Budh’s own on. Each length is counted between the dates beside it, and comes out the same in any kundli give or take a day; the dates and readings are this one’s.
| Pratyantar | Length | In this kundli | The report reads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budh | 1 month 20 days | 24 August 2057 – 14 October 2057 | Mixed |
| Ketu | 21 days | 14 October 2057 – 4 November 2057 | Care |
| Shukra | 2 months | 4 November 2057 – 4 January 2058 | Mixed |
| Surya | 18 days | 4 January 2058 – 22 January 2058 | Mixed |
| Chandra | 30 days | 22 January 2058 – 21 February 2058 | Mixed |
| Mangal | 21 days | 21 February 2058 – 14 March 2058 | Opens |
| Rahu | 1 month 23 days | 14 March 2058 – 7 May 2058 | Care |
| Guru | 1 month 18 days | 7 May 2058 – 25 June 2058 | Mixed |
| Shani | 1 month 27 days | 25 June 2058 – 21 August 2058 | Mixed |

Suggestions for Budh’s months, which your kundli confirms
Parashara gives Ketu–Budh a remedy of its own (BPHS 59.79), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”; it comes first.
ॐ ब्रां ब्रीं ब्रौं सः बुधाय नमः
Daan: green moong and green cloth, on Wednesday
What helps and what to keep clear of in any Budh period: Budh mahadasha. Its vrat, ratna, stotra and puja: Budh upay.
11 months 27 days (362 days): Ketu’s 7 years × Budh’s 17 years ÷ 120. It begins 6 years 3 days after a Ketu mahadasha starts.
Not in advance: it turns on your lagna and on where Ketu and Budh sit in your kundli. Ketu has no lagna of its own to be good or bad for; it gives the results of the lord of the rashi it sits in. Budh is favourable for Kanya (Virgo), Tula (Libra), Dhanu (Sagittarius), Makar (Capricorn) lagna. Budh is hard for Mesh (Aries), Kark (Cancer), Singh (Leo), Vrishchik (Scorpio), Meen (Pisces) lagna. By nature the two are neither friends nor enemies. On the Dhanu lagna kundli above, the Janam Kundli report reads it as “Mixed”, as its chip above says.
Nine, in the order Budh, Ketu, Shukra, Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Rahu, Guru, Shani. Each is Ketu–Budh’s length × the pratyantar lord’s years ÷ 120, so the longest is Shukra’s, about 2 months, and the shortest Surya’s, about 18 days.
Parashara gives this antardasha a remedy of its own (BPHS 59.79), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”. The Budh beej mantra, Om Braam Breem Braum Sah Budhaya Namah, and a daan of green moong and green cloth on Wednesday are the everyday upay for Ketu–Budh, where your kundli shows the need.
