Ketu mahadasha is about
letting go, the inward and the sudden
Ketu · Rahu
Rahu antardasha in Ketu mahadasha runs 1 year 18 days. It is the sixth of the nine and begins 2 years 11 months after the mahadasha starts.
Ketu’s 7 years × Rahu’s 18 years ÷ 120
1 year 18 days · 384 days
Mangal antardasha comes before it, and Guru antardasha after it.
Ketu and Rahu are neither friends nor enemies to each other (neutral). That natural relationship is where reading a Ketu–Rahu period starts; where Ketu and Rahu sit in your kundli decides what it brings. Texts differ on the friendships of Rahu and Ketu; this is the table the kundli here uses. Rahu and Ketu always stand exactly opposite each other in a chart, six rashis apart, so this period joins the two ends of one axis: the houses they sit in are always 1st and 7th from each other.

Ketu–Rahu area by area, in plain words, from Parashara’s verses set out below
| Area | What the verses give |
|---|---|
| Work and standing | When it goes well: gains through a foreign ruler or authority; when it is hard: ill repute. |
| Money and property | When it goes well: growth and gains of wealth, grain, livestock, land and property, though with some trouble at the start. |
| Family | When it is hard: quarrels. |
| Health | When it is hard: frequent urination, bodily weakness, chills with fever, diabetes, stomach pain, and distress and danger when Rahu sits in your 2nd or 7th house. |
For faith and journeys, Parashara’s verses on Ketu–Rahu give nothing of their own; there the two grahas’ places in your kundli decide.
Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 59, verses 45–50
Parashara reads Rahu’s antardasha in Ketu’s mahadasha by where Rahu sits, counted from the lagna and from Ketu, and by what it rules; your kundli shows which line is yours, and though the text speaks of a man, its results apply to anyone.
For relief, BPHS prescribes recitation of the Durga Saptashati.
BPHS 59.50A caution: When Rahu sits in your 2nd or 7th house (the maraka houses, which the texts link with danger to life), BPHS warns of distress and danger, and asks for care. BPHS 59.50
Rahu and Ketu rule no house, so no lagna makes this period good or bad by lordship
Each gives the results of the house it sits in and of the lord of that rashi: Ketu in each house · Rahu in each house
The period works on one of six axes, set by the house Rahu sits in, with Ketu at the other end; the two ends of your axis are the matters it brings forward.
| Rahu and Ketu in (either way round) | One end | The other end |
|---|---|---|
| 1st and 7th | self, body and health | marriage and partnership |
| 2nd and 8th | family, savings and speech | longevity, sudden events and inheritance |
| 3rd and 9th | courage, siblings and effort | father, fortune and dharma |
| 4th and 10th | mother, home and property | career and standing |
| 5th and 11th | children, study and intellect | gains, income and elder siblings |
| 6th and 12th | illness, debt and rivals | expenses, foreign lands and moksha |
One kundli that meets Ketu–Rahu at 70, read the way the report reads yours
From the Janam Kundli report
Ketu sits in your 12th house: this period brings its matters forward — spending, sleep, foreign places, and what is given away. A node gives the results of the lord of its sign: here Mangal, which rules your 5th house and 12th house and sits in your 11th house. Mixed — its sign's lord well placed; on the other side: a difficult house.
In this kundli it runs 22 July 2054 – 9 August 2055, from the age of 70 to 71. Its length here can differ from the one above by a day, because each kundli’s dates round to the day.
Rahu: sits in your 6th house. It brings illness, debt, disputes, and thankless work. Mixed — well placed from Ketu; on the other side: a difficult house.
Ketu–Rahu divides into nine pratyantars from Rahu’s own on. Each length is counted between the dates beside it, and comes out the same in any kundli give or take a day; the dates and readings are this one’s.
| Pratyantar | Length | In this kundli | The report reads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rahu | 1 month 26 days | 22 July 2054 – 17 September 2054 | Care |
| Guru | 1 month 21 days | 17 September 2054 – 7 November 2054 | Mixed |
| Shani | 2 months | 7 November 2054 – 7 January 2055 | Care |
| Budh | 1 month 23 days | 7 January 2055 – 2 March 2055 | Care |
| Ketu | 23 days | 2 March 2055 – 25 March 2055 | Mixed |
| Shukra | 2 months 3 days | 25 March 2055 – 28 May 2055 | Mixed |
| Surya | 19 days | 28 May 2055 – 16 June 2055 | Mixed |
| Chandra | 1 month 2 days | 16 June 2055 – 18 July 2055 | Care |
| Mangal | 22 days | 18 July 2055 – 9 August 2055 | Opens |

Suggestions for Rahu’s months, which your kundli confirms
Parashara gives Ketu–Rahu a remedy of its own (BPHS 59.50), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”; it comes first.

Daan: a coconut and black cloth, on Saturday
What helps and what to keep clear of in any Rahu period: Rahu mahadasha. Its vrat, ratna, stotra and puja: Rahu upay.
1 year 18 days (384 days): Ketu’s 7 years × Rahu’s 18 years ÷ 120. It begins 2 years 11 months after a Ketu mahadasha starts.
Not in advance: it turns on your lagna and on where Ketu and Rahu sit in your kundli. Ketu has no lagna of its own to be good or bad for; it gives the results of the lord of the rashi it sits in. By nature the two are neither friends nor enemies. On the Dhanu lagna kundli above, the Janam Kundli report reads it as “Mixed”, as its chip above says.
Nine, in the order Rahu, Guru, Shani, Budh, Ketu, Shukra, Surya, Chandra, Mangal. Each is Ketu–Rahu’s length × the pratyantar lord’s years ÷ 120, so the longest is Shukra’s, about 2 months 3 days, and the shortest Surya’s, about 19 days.
Parashara gives this antardasha a remedy of its own (BPHS 59.50), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”. The Rahu beej mantra, Om Bhraam Bhreem Bhraum Sah Rahave Namah, and a daan of a coconut and black cloth on Saturday are the everyday upay for Ketu–Rahu, where your kundli shows the need.
It follows from the Moon’s nakshatra at your birth. Enter your birth details and the whole 120-year timeline comes with it, each period read for your chart.
