Rahu mahadasha is about
ambition, the unfamiliar and sudden turns
Rahu · Budh
Budh antardasha in Rahu mahadasha runs 2 years 6 months 18 days. It is the fourth of the nine and begins 7 years 11 months 12 days after the mahadasha starts.
Rahu’s 18 years × Budh’s 17 years ÷ 120
2 years 6 months 18 days · 931 days
Shani antardasha comes before it, and Ketu antardasha after it.
Rahu counts Budh a friend, and Budh counts Rahu neither friend nor enemy (neutral). That natural relationship is where reading a Rahu–Budh period starts; where Rahu and Budh sit in your kundli decides what it brings. Texts differ on the friendships of Rahu and Ketu; this is the table the kundli here uses.

Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 55, verses 30–39
Parashara reads Budh’s antardasha in Rahu’s mahadasha by where Budh sits, counted from the lagna and from Rahu, and by what it rules; your kundli shows which line is yours, and though the text speaks of a man, its results apply to anyone.
For relief from these troubles, BPHS prescribes reciting the Vishnu Sahasranama (the thousand names of Vishnu).
BPHS 55.39A caution: When Budh rules the 2nd or 7th house, BPHS counts this sub-period maraka (a time the texts link with danger to life) and warns of the fear of untimely death. BPHS 55.39
What Budh is for each lagna, as Parashara lists it; Rahu follows the lord of its rashi
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
| Lagna | Budh is (lord of) |
|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Malefic 3rd and 6th |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Mildly malefic— lord of the 2nd and 5th, which the verse calls 'somewhat inauspicious' (34.23) and does not name among the killers 2nd and 5th |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Lagna lord— the lagna lord, which the verse leaves unjudged: 34.25 names only Shukra auspicious for Mithun 1st and 4th |
| Kark (Cancer) | Malefic 3rd and 12th |
| Singh (Leo) | Malefic— lord of the 2nd, but the killers the verse names for this lagna are Shani and Chandra (34.29–30) 2nd and 11th |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Shukra (34.32) 1st and 10th |
| Tula (Libra) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Chandra (34.34) 9th and 12th |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Malefic 8th and 11th |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Surya (34.38)— lord of the 7th, but the killers the verse names for this lagna are Shani and Shukra (34.37–38) 7th and 10th |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Benefic 6th and 9th |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Neutral— gives mixed results (34.42) 5th and 8th |
| Meen (Pisces) | Malefic · Maraka 4th and 7th |
Rahu rules no house, so no lagna makes it good or bad by lordship: it gives the results of the house it sits in and of the lord of that rashi. Rahu in each house shows how.
One kundli that meets Rahu–Budh at 60, read the way the report reads yours
From the Janam Kundli report
Rahu sits in your 4th house: this period brings its matters forward — the home, the mother, land and vehicles, and rest. A node gives the results of the lord of its sign: here Shani, which rules your 4th house and 5th house and sits in your 3rd house. Mixed — a kendra or trikona, and nothing else: one point in favour does not open a period.
In this kundli it runs 27 April 2051 – 13 November 2053, from the age of 60 to 63. Its length here can differ from the one above by a day, because each kundli’s dates round to the day.
Budh: rules your 9th house and 12th house, sits in your 10th house. It brings fortune, the father, teachers, and long travel; spending, sleep, foreign places, and what is given away. Mixed — a kendra or trikona, lord of a trikona and well placed from Rahu; on the other side: short of Shadbala, in an enemy's sign and combust.
Shadbala: the six-fold measure of a graha’s strength the report computes; “short of Shadbala” means below the strength the texts ask of it. Combust: so close to the Sun that its strength is lost in the Sun’s rays.
Rahu–Budh divides into nine pratyantars from Budh’s own on. Each length is counted between the dates beside it, and comes out the same in any kundli give or take a day; the dates and readings are this one’s.
| Pratyantar | Length | In this kundli | The report reads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budh | 4 months 9 days | 27 April 2051 – 5 September 2051 | Care |
| Ketu | 1 month 25 days | 5 September 2051 – 30 October 2051 | Mixed |
| Shukra | 5 months 3 days | 30 October 2051 – 2 April 2052 | Mixed |
| Surya | 1 month 17 days | 2 April 2052 – 19 May 2052 | Opens |
| Chandra | 2 months 16 days | 19 May 2052 – 4 August 2052 | Mixed |
| Mangal | 1 month 24 days | 4 August 2052 – 28 September 2052 | Mixed |
| Rahu | 4 months 17 days | 28 September 2052 – 14 February 2053 | Opens |
| Guru | 4 months 4 days | 14 February 2053 – 18 June 2053 | Care |
| Shani | 4 months 26 days | 18 June 2053 – 13 November 2053 | Mixed |

Suggestions for Budh’s months, which your kundli confirms
Parashara gives Rahu–Budh a remedy of its own (BPHS 55.39), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”; it comes first.
ॐ ब्रां ब्रीं ब्रौं सः बुधाय नमः
Daan: green moong and green cloth, on Wednesday
What helps and what to keep clear of in any Budh period: Budh mahadasha. Its vrat, ratna, stotra and puja: Budh upay.
2 years 6 months 18 days (931 days): Rahu’s 18 years × Budh’s 17 years ÷ 120. It begins 7 years 11 months 12 days after a Rahu mahadasha starts.
Not in advance: it turns on your lagna and on where Rahu and Budh sit in your kundli. Rahu has no lagna of its own to be good or bad for; it gives the results of the lord of the rashi it sits in. Budh is favourable for Kanya (Virgo), Tula (Libra), Dhanu (Sagittarius), Makar (Capricorn) lagna. Budh is hard for Mesh (Aries), Kark (Cancer), Singh (Leo), Vrishchik (Scorpio), Meen (Pisces) lagna. By nature the friendship is uneven: Rahu sees Budh as a friend, and Budh sees Rahu as neutral. On the Tula lagna kundli above, the Janam Kundli report reads it as “Mixed”, as its chip above says.
Nine, in the order Budh, Ketu, Shukra, Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Rahu, Guru, Shani. Each is Rahu–Budh’s length × the pratyantar lord’s years ÷ 120, so the longest is Shukra’s, about 5 months 3 days, and the shortest Surya’s, about 1 month 17 days.
Parashara gives this antardasha a remedy of its own (BPHS 55.39), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”. The Budh beej mantra, Om Braam Breem Braum Sah Budhaya Namah, and a daan of green moong and green cloth on Wednesday are the everyday upay for Rahu–Budh, where your kundli shows the need.
