Ketu mahadasha is about
letting go, the inward and the sudden
Ketu · Guru
Guru antardasha in Ketu mahadasha runs 11 months 6 days. It is the seventh of the nine and begins 3 years 11 months 18 days after the mahadasha starts.
Ketu’s 7 years × Guru’s 16 years ÷ 120
11 months 6 days · 341 days
Rahu antardasha comes before it, and Shani antardasha after it.
Ketu counts Guru a friend, and Guru counts Ketu neither friend nor enemy (neutral). That natural relationship is where reading a Ketu–Guru period starts; where Ketu and Guru sit in your kundli decides what it brings. Texts differ on the friendships of Rahu and Ketu; this is the table the kundli here uses.

Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 59, verses 51–60
Parashara reads Guru’s antardasha in Ketu’s mahadasha by where Guru sits, counted from the lagna and from Ketu, and by what it rules; your kundli shows which line is yours, and though the text speaks of a man, its results apply to anyone.
For relief, BPHS prescribes the Mahamrityunjaya japa, the mantra to Shiva for health and long life, and recitation of the Shiva Sahasranama.
BPHS 59.60A caution: When Guru rules your 2nd or 7th house, BPHS counts this a maraka period (one the texts link with danger to life). It warns of the danger of an untimely death and asks for care with health. BPHS 59.59
What Guru is for each lagna, as Parashara lists it; Ketu follows the lord of its rashi
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
| Lagna | Guru is (lord of) |
|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Benefic 9th and 12th |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 8th and 11th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.23–24) 8th and 11th |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Malefic— lord of the 7th, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Chandra (34.25–26) 7th and 10th |
| Kark (Cancer) | Benefic 6th and 9th |
| Singh (Leo) | Benefic 5th and 8th |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Malefic— lord of the 7th, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Shukra (34.31–32) 4th and 7th |
| Tula (Libra) | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 3rd and 6th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.33–34) 3rd and 6th |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Benefic— lord of the 2nd, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Shukra (34.35–36) 2nd and 5th |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Neutral— the lagna lord, which the verse calls neutral (34.38) 1st and 4th |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Malefic 3rd and 12th |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Malefic · Maraka 2nd and 11th |
| Meen (Pisces) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Mangal (34.44) 1st and 10th |
Ketu rules no house, so no lagna makes it good or bad by lordship: it gives the results of the house it sits in and of the lord of that rashi. Ketu in each house shows how.
One kundli that meets Ketu–Guru at 71, read the way the report reads yours
From the Janam Kundli report
Ketu sits in your 12th house: this period brings its matters forward — spending, sleep, foreign places, and what is given away. A node gives the results of the lord of its sign: here Mangal, which rules your 5th house and 12th house and sits in your 11th house. Mixed — its sign's lord well placed; on the other side: a difficult house.
In this kundli it runs 9 August 2055 – 15 July 2056, from the age of 71 to 72. Its length here can differ from the one above by a day, because each kundli’s dates round to the day.
Guru: rules your 1st house and 4th house, sits in your 1st house. It brings the body, health, temperament and the self; the home, the mother, land and vehicles, and rest. Mixed — a kendra or trikona and strong in its sign; on the other side: short of Shadbala and in an enemy's sign in the navamsa.
Shadbala: the six-fold measure of a graha’s strength the report computes; “short of Shadbala” means below the strength the texts ask of it. Navamsa: the ninth-division chart, read for a graha’s inner strength.
Ketu–Guru divides into nine pratyantars from Guru’s own on. Each length is counted between the dates beside it, and comes out the same in any kundli give or take a day; the dates and readings are this one’s.
| Pratyantar | Length | In this kundli | The report reads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guru | 1 month 15 days | 9 August 2055 – 24 September 2055 | Mixed |
| Shani | 1 month 24 days | 24 September 2055 – 17 November 2055 | Mixed |
| Budh | 1 month 18 days | 17 November 2055 – 4 January 2056 | Mixed |
| Ketu | 20 days | 4 January 2056 – 24 January 2056 | Care |
| Shukra | 1 month 26 days | 24 January 2056 – 21 March 2056 | Mixed |
| Surya | 17 days | 21 March 2056 – 7 April 2056 | Mixed |
| Chandra | 28 days | 7 April 2056 – 5 May 2056 | Mixed |
| Mangal | 20 days | 5 May 2056 – 25 May 2056 | Opens |
| Rahu | 1 month 20 days | 25 May 2056 – 15 July 2056 | Care |

Suggestions for Guru’s months, which your kundli confirms
Parashara gives Ketu–Guru a remedy of its own (BPHS 59.60), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”; it comes first.
ॐ ग्रां ग्रीं ग्रौं सः गुरवे नमः
Daan: chana dal and turmeric, on Thursday
What helps and what to keep clear of in any Guru period: Guru mahadasha. Its vrat, ratna, stotra and puja: Guru upay.
11 months 6 days (341 days): Ketu’s 7 years × Guru’s 16 years ÷ 120. It begins 3 years 11 months 18 days after a Ketu mahadasha starts.
Not in advance: it turns on your lagna and on where Ketu and Guru sit in your kundli. Ketu has no lagna of its own to be good or bad for; it gives the results of the lord of the rashi it sits in. Guru is favourable for Mesh (Aries), Kark (Cancer), Singh (Leo), Vrishchik (Scorpio), Meen (Pisces) lagna. Guru is hard for Vrishabh (Taurus), Mithun (Gemini), Kanya (Virgo), Tula (Libra), Makar (Capricorn), Kumbh (Aquarius) lagna. By nature the friendship is uneven: Ketu sees Guru as a friend, and Guru sees Ketu as neutral. On the Dhanu lagna kundli above, the Janam Kundli report reads it as “Mixed”, as its chip above says.
Nine, in the order Guru, Shani, Budh, Ketu, Shukra, Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Rahu. Each is Ketu–Guru’s length × the pratyantar lord’s years ÷ 120, so the longest is Shukra’s, about 1 month 26 days, and the shortest Surya’s, about 17 days.
Parashara gives this antardasha a remedy of its own (BPHS 59.60), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”. The Guru beej mantra, Om Graam Greem Graum Sah Gurave Namah, and a daan of chana dal and turmeric on Thursday are the everyday upay for Ketu–Guru, where your kundli shows the need.
