Shani mahadasha is about
hard work, duty and delay
Shani · Shukra
Shukra antardasha in Shani mahadasha runs 3 years 2 months. It is the fourth of the nine and begins 6 years 9 months 21 days after the mahadasha starts.
Shani’s 19 years × Shukra’s 20 years ÷ 120
3 years 2 months · 1,157 days
Ketu antardasha comes before it, and Surya antardasha after it.
Shani and Shukra are friends to each other. That natural relationship is where reading a Shani–Shukra period starts; where Shani and Shukra sit in your kundli decides what it brings.
hard work, duty and delay

Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 57, verses 24–36
Parashara reads Shukra’s antardasha in Shani’s mahadasha by where Shukra sits, counted from the lagna and from Shani, and by what it rules; your kundli shows which line is yours, and though the text speaks of a man, its results apply to anyone.
For relief from these troubles and to regain enjoyment and good health, BPHS turns to the grace of Goddess Durga: reciting the Durga Saptashati, and giving a cow or a female buffalo in charity.
BPHS 57.35–36A caution: When Shukra rules the 2nd or 7th house, BPHS warns of distress to the body. The 2nd and 7th are the maraka houses, which the texts link with danger to life. BPHS 57.35–36
What Shani and Shukra are for each lagna, as Parashara lists them, and the two read together
Both are favourable for Kumbh (Aquarius) lagna. Both are hard for Mesh (Aries), Kark (Cancer), Singh (Leo), Vrishchik (Scorpio), Dhanu (Sagittarius), Meen (Pisces) lagna, where the period asks for the most care. For Vrishabh (Taurus) lagna one is good and the other hard, so the period is mixed. Where one of the two is neutral, the other decides the lean: towards good for Mithun (Gemini), Kanya (Virgo), Tula (Libra), Makar (Capricorn).
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
| Lagna | Shani is (lord of) | Shukra is (lord of) | Together |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Malefic 10th and 11th | Malefic · Maraka 2nd and 7th | Hard |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Yogakaraka 9th and 10th | Malefic · Maraka— the lagna lord, but also lord of the 6th: a malefic and a killer (34.23–24) 1st and 6th | Mixed |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Neutral 8th and 9th | Benefic 5th and 12th | Leans favourable |
| Kark (Cancer) | Maraka 7th and 8th | Malefic 4th and 11th | Hard |
| Singh (Leo) | Malefic · Maraka 6th and 7th | Malefic 3rd and 10th | Hard |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Neutral 5th and 6th | Benefic · Maraka · Yoga— gives yoga together with Budh (34.32) 2nd and 9th | Leans favourable |
| Tula (Libra) | Yogakaraka 4th and 5th | Neutral— the lagna lord, which the verse calls neutral (34.34) 1st and 8th | Leans favourable |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Malefic 3rd and 4th | Malefic · Maraka 7th and 12th | Hard |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Maraka 2nd and 3rd | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 6th and 11th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.37–38) 6th and 11th | Hard |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Neutral— the lagna lord; not a killer on his own, the verse says (34.39) 1st and 2nd | Yogakaraka 5th and 10th | Leans favourable |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Benefic— the lagna lord, and one the verse itself names auspicious for Kumbh (34.41) 1st and 12th | Yogakaraka 4th and 9th | Favourable |
| Meen (Pisces) | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 11th and 12th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.43–44) 11th and 12th | Malefic 3rd and 8th | Hard |
“Together” reads Shani and Shukra side by side: both favourable is Favourable; one favourable and one neutral, Leans favourable; one each way, Mixed; one hard and one neutral, Leans hard; both hard, Hard; both neutral, Placement decides. A Yoga pair is two grahas Parashara names together for that lagna.
One kundli that meets Shani–Shukra at 38, read the way the report reads yours
From the Janam Kundli report
Shani rules your 2nd house and 3rd house and sits in your 11th house: this period brings those matters forward — the money at hand, the family, and speech; effort, courage, younger siblings and short journeys. Mixed — a house of wealth or gain and strong in its sign; on the other side: short of Shadbala and debilitated in the navamsa.
In this kundli it runs 12 June 2022 – 12 August 2025, from the age of 38 to 41. Its length here can differ from the one above by a day, because each kundli’s dates round to the day.
Shukra: rules your 6th house and 11th house, sits in your 1st house. It brings illness, debt, disputes, and thankless work; income, gains, elder siblings, and friends who help. Mixed — a kendra or trikona, well placed from Shani and strong in the navamsa; on the other side: short of Shadbala.
Shadbala: the six-fold measure of a graha’s strength the report computes; “short of Shadbala” means below the strength the texts ask of it. Navamsa: the ninth-division chart, read for a graha’s inner strength. Debilitated: in its sign of fall, where a graha is weakest.
Shani–Shukra divides into nine pratyantars from Shukra’s own on. Each length is counted between the dates beside it, and comes out the same in any kundli give or take a day; the dates and readings are this one’s.
| Pratyantar | Length | In this kundli | The report reads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shukra | 6 months 10 days | 12 June 2022 – 22 December 2022 | Mixed |
| Surya | 1 month 27 days | 22 December 2022 – 18 February 2023 | Mixed |
| Chandra | 3 months 7 days | 18 February 2023 – 25 May 2023 | Mixed |
| Mangal | 2 months 6 days | 25 May 2023 – 31 July 2023 | Opens |
| Rahu | 5 months 21 days | 31 July 2023 – 21 January 2024 | Care |
| Guru | 5 months 2 days | 21 January 2024 – 23 June 2024 | Mixed |
| Shani | 6 months | 23 June 2024 – 23 December 2024 | Mixed |
| Budh | 5 months 13 days | 23 December 2024 – 5 June 2025 | Mixed |
| Ketu | 2 months 7 days | 5 June 2025 – 12 August 2025 | Care |

Suggestions for Shukra’s months, which your kundli confirms
Parashara gives Shani–Shukra a remedy of its own (BPHS 57.35–36), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”; it comes first.
ॐ द्रां द्रीं द्रौं सः शुक्राय नमः
Daan: white cloth and rice, on Friday
What helps and what to keep clear of in any Shukra period: Shukra mahadasha. Its vrat, ratna, stotra and puja: Shukra upay.
3 years 2 months (1,157 days): Shani’s 19 years × Shukra’s 20 years ÷ 120. It begins 6 years 9 months 21 days after a Shani mahadasha starts.
Not in advance: it turns on your lagna and on where Shani and Shukra sit in your kundli. By Parashara’s lists it is strongest for Kumbh (Aquarius) lagna. It is hardest for Mesh (Aries), Kark (Cancer), Singh (Leo), Vrishchik (Scorpio), Dhanu (Sagittarius), Meen (Pisces) lagna. By nature the two are friends. On the Dhanu lagna kundli above, the Janam Kundli report reads it as “Mixed”, as its chip above says.
Nine, in the order Shukra, Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Rahu, Guru, Shani, Budh, Ketu. Each is Shani–Shukra’s length × the pratyantar lord’s years ÷ 120, so the longest is Shukra’s, about 6 months 10 days, and the shortest Surya’s, about 1 month 27 days.
Parashara gives this antardasha a remedy of its own (BPHS 57.35–36), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”. The Shukra beej mantra, Om Draam Dreem Draum Sah Shukraya Namah, and a daan of white cloth and rice on Friday are the everyday upay for Shani–Shukra, where your kundli shows the need.
