Chandra mahadasha is about
the mind, the mother and the home
Chandra · Shukra
Shukra antardasha in Chandra mahadasha runs 1 year 8 months. It is the eighth of the nine and begins 7 years 10 months after the mahadasha starts.
Chandra’s 10 years × Shukra’s 20 years ÷ 120
1 year 8 months · 609 days
Ketu antardasha comes before it, and Surya antardasha after it.
Chandra counts Shukra neither friend nor enemy (neutral), and Shukra counts Chandra an enemy. That natural relationship is where reading a Chandra–Shukra period starts; where Chandra and Shukra sit in your kundli decides what it brings.

Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 53, verses 53–64
Parashara reads Shukra’s antardasha in Chandra’s mahadasha by where Shukra sits, counted from the lagna and from Chandra, and by what it rules; your kundli shows which line is yours, and though the text speaks of a man, its results apply to anyone.
For relief, BPHS prescribes Rudra japa and giving a white cow and silver in charity.
BPHS 53.63–64A caution: BPHS counts this a maraka period (one the texts link with danger to life) when Shukra rules your 2nd or 7th house. It warns of danger of untimely death and asks for care with health. BPHS 53.63–64
What Chandra and Shukra are for each lagna, as Parashara lists them, and the two read together
Both are hard for Vrishabh (Taurus), Singh (Leo) lagna, where the period asks for the most care. For Mithun (Gemini), Kark (Cancer), Kanya (Virgo), Vrishchik (Scorpio), Makar (Capricorn), Kumbh (Aquarius), Meen (Pisces) lagna one is good and the other hard, so the period is mixed. Where one of the two is neutral, the other decides the lean: towards hard for Mesh (Aries), Dhanu (Sagittarius). For Tula (Libra) lagna both are neutral, and where Chandra and Shukra sit decides it.
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
| Lagna | Chandra is (lord of) | Shukra is (lord of) | Together |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Neutral 4th | Malefic · Maraka 2nd and 7th | Leans hard |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 3rd only, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.23–24) 3rd | Malefic · Maraka— the lagna lord, but also lord of the 6th: a malefic and a killer (34.23–24) 1st and 6th | Hard |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Maraka 2nd | Benefic 5th and 12th | Mixed |
| Kark (Cancer) | Benefic 1st | Malefic 4th and 11th | Mixed |
| Singh (Leo) | Maraka— lord of the 12th only, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.29–30) 12th | Malefic 3rd and 10th | Hard |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Malefic 11th | Benefic · Maraka · Yoga— gives yoga together with Budh (34.32) 2nd and 9th | Mixed |
| Tula (Libra) | Neutral · Yoga— gives yoga together with Budh (34.34) 10th | Neutral— the lagna lord, which the verse calls neutral (34.34) 1st and 8th | Placement decides |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Yogakaraka— as the verse names it, together with Surya, the 10th lord (34.35–36) 9th | Malefic · Maraka 7th and 12th | Mixed |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Neutral 8th | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 6th and 11th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.37–38) 6th and 11th | Leans hard |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Malefic— lord of the 7th, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Mangal (34.39–40) 7th | Yogakaraka 5th and 10th | Mixed |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Malefic 6th | Yogakaraka 4th and 9th | Mixed |
| Meen (Pisces) | Benefic 5th | Malefic 3rd and 8th | Mixed |
“Together” reads Chandra and Shukra side by side: both favourable is Favourable; one favourable and one neutral, Leans favourable; one each way, Mixed; one hard and one neutral, Leans hard; both hard, Hard; both neutral, Placement decides. A Yoga pair is two grahas Parashara names together for that lagna.
One kundli that meets Chandra–Shukra at 43, read the way the report reads yours
From the Janam Kundli report
Chandra rules your 10th house and sits in your 6th house: this period brings those matters forward — work, standing, and those senior to you. Go carefully — a difficult house and short of Shadbala; on the other side: vargottama.
In this kundli it runs 15 March 2034 – 13 November 2035, from the age of 43 to 45. Its length here can differ from the one above by a day, because each kundli’s dates round to the day.
Shukra: rules your 1st house and 8th house, sits in your 9th house. It brings the body, health, temperament and the self; hidden matters, delay, and other people's money. Mixed — a kendra or trikona, well placed from Chandra and strong in the navamsa; on the other side: short of Shadbala.
Shadbala: the six-fold measure of a graha’s strength the report computes; “short of Shadbala” means below the strength the texts ask of it. Vargottama: in the same rashi in the birth chart and in the navamsa, which strengthens a graha. Navamsa: the ninth-division chart, read for a graha’s inner strength.
Chandra–Shukra divides into nine pratyantars from Shukra’s own on. Each length is counted between the dates beside it, and comes out the same in any kundli give or take a day; the dates and readings are this one’s.
| Pratyantar | Length | In this kundli | The report reads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shukra | 3 months 9 days | 15 March 2034 – 24 June 2034 | Mixed |
| Surya | 1 month 1 day | 24 June 2034 – 25 July 2034 | Opens |
| Chandra | 1 month 19 days | 25 July 2034 – 13 September 2034 | Mixed |
| Mangal | 1 month 6 days | 13 September 2034 – 19 October 2034 | Mixed |
| Rahu | 2 months 30 days | 19 October 2034 – 18 January 2035 | Mixed |
| Guru | 2 months 22 days | 18 January 2035 – 9 April 2035 | Care |
| Shani | 3 months 6 days | 9 April 2035 – 15 July 2035 | Opens |
| Budh | 2 months 24 days | 15 July 2035 – 9 October 2035 | Care |
| Ketu | 1 month 4 days | 9 October 2035 – 13 November 2035 | Mixed |

Suggestions for Shukra’s months, which your kundli confirms
Parashara gives Chandra–Shukra a remedy of its own (BPHS 53.63–64), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”; it comes first.
ॐ द्रां द्रीं द्रौं सः शुक्राय नमः
Daan: white cloth and rice, on Friday
What helps and what to keep clear of in any Shukra period: Shukra mahadasha. Its vrat, ratna, stotra and puja: Shukra upay.
1 year 8 months (609 days): Chandra’s 10 years × Shukra’s 20 years ÷ 120. It begins 7 years 10 months after a Chandra mahadasha starts.
Not in advance: it turns on your lagna and on where Chandra and Shukra sit in your kundli. By Parashara’s lists no lagna has both lords favourable. It is hardest for Vrishabh (Taurus), Singh (Leo) lagna. By nature the friendship is uneven: Chandra sees Shukra as neutral, and Shukra sees Chandra as an enemy. On the Tula lagna kundli above, the Janam Kundli report reads it as “Mixed”, as its chip above says.
Nine, in the order Shukra, Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Rahu, Guru, Shani, Budh, Ketu. Each is Chandra–Shukra’s length × the pratyantar lord’s years ÷ 120, so the longest is Shukra’s, about 3 months 9 days, and the shortest Surya’s, about 1 month 1 day.
Parashara gives this antardasha a remedy of its own (BPHS 53.63–64), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”. The Shukra beej mantra, Om Draam Dreem Draum Sah Shukraya Namah, and a daan of white cloth and rice on Friday are the everyday upay for Chandra–Shukra, where your kundli shows the need.
It follows from the Moon’s nakshatra at your birth. Enter your birth details and the whole 120-year timeline comes with it, each period read for your chart.
