Mangal mahadasha is about
effort, property and disputes
Mangal · Shukra
Shukra antardasha in Mangal mahadasha runs 1 year 2 months. It is the seventh of the nine and begins 4 years 10 months 24 days after the mahadasha starts.
Mangal’s 7 years × Shukra’s 20 years ÷ 120
1 year 2 months · 426 days
Ketu antardasha comes before it, and Surya antardasha after it.
Mangal and Shukra are neither friends nor enemies to each other (neutral). That natural relationship is where reading a Mangal–Shukra period starts; where Mangal and Shukra sit in your kundli decides what it brings.

Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 54, verses 55–63
Parashara reads Shukra’s antardasha in Mangal’s mahadasha by where Shukra sits, counted from the lagna and from Mangal, and by what it rules; your kundli shows which line is yours, and though the text speaks of a man, its results apply to anyone.
To regain good health, BPHS prescribes giving a cow or a she-buffalo in charity.
BPHS 54.63A caution: When Shukra rules your 2nd or 7th house (the maraka houses, which the texts link with danger to life), BPHS warns of bodily pain in this antardasha, and asks for care with health. BPHS 54.63
What Mangal and Shukra are for each lagna, as Parashara lists them, and the two read together
Both are hard for Vrishabh (Taurus) lagna, where the period asks for the most care. For Mesh (Aries), Mithun (Gemini), Kark (Cancer), Singh (Leo), Kanya (Virgo), Dhanu (Sagittarius), Makar (Capricorn), Kumbh (Aquarius), Meen (Pisces) lagna one is good and the other hard, so the period is mixed. Where one of the two is neutral, the other decides the lean: towards hard for Tula (Libra), Vrishchik (Scorpio).
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
| Lagna | Mangal is (lord of) | Shukra is (lord of) | Together |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Benefic 1st and 8th | Malefic · Maraka 2nd and 7th | Mixed |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Maraka 7th and 12th | Malefic · Maraka— the lagna lord, but also lord of the 6th: a malefic and a killer (34.23–24) 1st and 6th | Hard |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Malefic 6th and 11th | Benefic 5th and 12th | Mixed |
| Kark (Cancer) | Yogakaraka 5th and 10th | Malefic 4th and 11th | Mixed |
| Singh (Leo) | Yogakaraka 4th and 9th | Malefic 3rd and 10th | Mixed |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Malefic 3rd and 8th | Benefic · Maraka · Yoga— gives yoga together with Budh (34.32) 2nd and 9th | Mixed |
| Tula (Libra) | Malefic · Maraka 2nd and 7th | Neutral— the lagna lord, which the verse calls neutral (34.34) 1st and 8th | Leans hard |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Neutral 1st and 6th | Malefic · Maraka 7th and 12th | Leans hard |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Benefic 5th and 12th | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 6th and 11th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.37–38) 6th and 11th | Mixed |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 4th and 11th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.39–40) 4th and 11th | Yogakaraka 5th and 10th | Mixed |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 3rd and 10th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.41–42) 3rd and 10th | Yogakaraka 4th and 9th | Mixed |
| Meen (Pisces) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Guru (34.44)— also named a killer, though not one who kills on his own (34.44) 2nd and 9th | Malefic 3rd and 8th | Mixed |
“Together” reads Mangal and Shukra side by side: both favourable is Favourable; one favourable and one neutral, Leans favourable; one each way, Mixed; one hard and one neutral, Leans hard; both hard, Hard; both neutral, Placement decides. A Yoga pair is two grahas Parashara names together for that lagna.
One kundli that meets Mangal–Shukra at 50, read the way the report reads yours
From the Janam Kundli report
Mangal rules your 2nd house and 7th house and sits in your 7th house: this period brings those matters forward — the money at hand, the family, and speech; the spouse, partners, and those one deals with. Mixed — a kendra or trikona and strong in its sign; on the other side: short of Shadbala and in an enemy's sign in the navamsa.
In this kundli it runs 8 April 2041 – 8 June 2042, from the age of 50 to 51. Its length here can differ from the one above by a day, because each kundli’s dates round to the day.
Shukra: rules your 1st house and 8th house, sits in your 9th house. It brings the body, health, temperament and the self; hidden matters, delay, and other people's money. Mixed — a kendra or trikona, well placed from Mangal and strong in the navamsa; on the other side: short of Shadbala.
Shadbala: the six-fold measure of a graha’s strength the report computes; “short of Shadbala” means below the strength the texts ask of it. Navamsa: the ninth-division chart, read for a graha’s inner strength.
Mangal–Shukra divides into nine pratyantars from Shukra’s own on. Each length is counted between the dates beside it, and comes out the same in any kundli give or take a day; the dates and readings are this one’s.
| Pratyantar | Length | In this kundli | The report reads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shukra | 2 months 10 days | 8 April 2041 – 18 June 2041 | Mixed |
| Surya | 21 days | 18 June 2041 – 9 July 2041 | Opens |
| Chandra | 1 month 5 days | 9 July 2041 – 14 August 2041 | Mixed |
| Mangal | 24 days | 14 August 2041 – 7 September 2041 | Mixed |
| Rahu | 2 months 3 days | 7 September 2041 – 10 November 2041 | Mixed |
| Guru | 1 month 27 days | 10 November 2041 – 6 January 2042 | Care |
| Shani | 2 months 9 days | 6 January 2042 – 15 March 2042 | Opens |
| Budh | 1 month 29 days | 15 March 2042 – 14 May 2042 | Care |
| Ketu | 25 days | 14 May 2042 – 8 June 2042 | Mixed |

Suggestions for Shukra’s months, which your kundli confirms
Parashara gives Mangal–Shukra a remedy of its own (BPHS 54.63), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”; it comes first.
ॐ द्रां द्रीं द्रौं सः शुक्राय नमः
Daan: white cloth and rice, on Friday
What helps and what to keep clear of in any Shukra period: Shukra mahadasha. Its vrat, ratna, stotra and puja: Shukra upay.
1 year 2 months (426 days): Mangal’s 7 years × Shukra’s 20 years ÷ 120. It begins 4 years 10 months 24 days after a Mangal mahadasha starts.
Not in advance: it turns on your lagna and on where Mangal and Shukra sit in your kundli. By Parashara’s lists no lagna has both lords favourable. It is hardest for Vrishabh (Taurus) lagna. By nature the two are neither friends nor enemies. On the Tula lagna kundli above, the Janam Kundli report reads it as “Mixed”, as its chip above says.
Nine, in the order Shukra, Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Rahu, Guru, Shani, Budh, Ketu. Each is Mangal–Shukra’s length × the pratyantar lord’s years ÷ 120, so the longest is Shukra’s, about 2 months 10 days, and the shortest Surya’s, about 21 days.
Parashara gives this antardasha a remedy of its own (BPHS 54.63), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”. The Shukra beej mantra, Om Draam Dreem Draum Sah Shukraya Namah, and a daan of white cloth and rice on Friday are the everyday upay for Mangal–Shukra, where your kundli shows the need.
It follows from the Moon’s nakshatra at your birth. Enter your birth details and the whole 120-year timeline comes with it, each period read for your chart.
