What Chandra gives in the 11th house by Lal Kitab and by Phaladeepika, its upay, the houses it looks at from there, and what it means for each lagna.
The Moon in the 11th house gives many friends, steady income, and fulfilment of desires.
Lal Kitab reads Chandra in the 11th house by the house, not by your lagna; Parashara’s view for your own lagna is further down, and Phaladeepika and Brihat Jataka may differ. How Lal Kitab and Parashara differ · Lal Kitab: pakka ghar, rin and upay
Keep silver and rice at home. Offer milk to the needy.
This is Lal Kitab’s one upay for Chandra in the 11th house, to keep its good results strong; it is a suggestion, and your whole kundli may call for another. All upay for Chandra
Phaladeepika 8.7 holds that Chandra (Moon) in the 11th house (the house of gains) makes a person high-minded and long-lived. The text adds wealth, children and people in one's employ.
How much of this holds turns on the rest of the chart: the rashi Chandra sits in, the 11th house’s lord and the grahas with it or looking at it. The old texts speak of a man; their readings apply to anyone.
BJ 20.5: the Moon in the 11th brings fame and wealth.
Its results show most in Chandra’s own mahadasha (10 years) and in its antardashas inside the others. The 11th house’s matters also come forward in the periods of the house’s lord, which depends on your lagna.
Its drishti (a graha’s glance: the houses it looks at feel its influence) from the 11th, by the rules our kundli reading weighs houses with:
The 11th house, Labha bhava, rules income, gains, elder siblings and friends; it is an upachaya (the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th houses, which grow better with time and effort); its karaka (the graha that naturally signifies a house’s matters, whatever the lagna) is Guru. The 11th house, and every graha in it
| Lagna | Chandra sits in | Its state there | Lord of your | For this lagna |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Kumbh (Aquarius) | Neutral | 4th | Neutral |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Meen (Pisces) | Neutral | 3rd | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 3rd only, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.23–24) |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Mesh (Aries) | Neutral | 2nd | Maraka |
| Kark (Cancer) | Vrishabh (Taurus) | Exalted | 1st | Benefic |
| Singh (Leo) | Mithun (Gemini) | Friendly | 12th | Maraka— lord of the 12th only, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.29–30) |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Kark (Cancer) | Own rashi | 11th | Malefic |
| Tula (Libra) | Singh (Leo) | Friendly | 10th | Neutral · Yoga— gives yoga together with Budh (34.34) |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Kanya (Virgo) | Friendly | 9th | Yogakaraka— as the verse names it, together with Surya, the 10th lord (34.35–36) |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Tula (Libra) | Neutral | 8th | Neutral |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Debilitated | 7th | Malefic— lord of the 7th, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Mangal (34.39–40) |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Neutral | 6th | Malefic |
| Meen (Pisces) | Makar (Capricorn) | Neutral | 5th | Benefic |
Chandra’s state in each rashi, and the houses it rules for each lagna, as our free kundli reads them (BPHS chapter 34); each house links to what Parashara says of its lord sitting in the 11th. “Its state there” is how that rashi treats Chandra: exalted, own, friendly, neutral (sam), enemy or debilitated. “For this lagna” is Parashara’s verdict on the houses it rules. The two answer different questions.
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
Take Kark lagna. Chandra sits in Vrishabh there (exalted) and rules your 1st house, which makes it a benefic for Kark lagna (BPHS 34). Both point the same way, a graha good for the lagna and strong in its rashi: the best this table holds. The Lal Kitab reading above is the same for every lagna; this row is the part that changes with yours.
By Brihat Jataka 20.11, Chandra in the 11th house gives its good in full for Kark lagna, half for Kanya lagna, a quarter for Singh, Tula and Vrishchik lagna and none for Makar lagna, by the rashi it sits in. The verse gives no share for a neutral rashi, which is where it sits for Mesh, Vrishabh, Mithun, Dhanu, Kumbh and Meen lagna. BJ 20.10–11
Not the birth placement above: here Chandra is moving through the 11th counted from your Moon rashi. Phaladeepika counts the 11th among Chandra’s good transit houses (all twelve, on the Chandra page). Our Monthly Prediction reads it as very good: gains, happiness, success, good friends.
Lal Kitab counts it a good placement, one of the 8 houses where Chandra does well (with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 9th). By its rashi, it is strongest for Kark and Kanya lagna; it is debilitated for Makar lagna.
Lal Kitab’s upay for it: Keep silver and rice at home; offer milk to the needy.
