Budh mahadasha is about
trade, study and the written word
Budh · Rahu
Rahu antardasha in Budh mahadasha runs 2 years 6 months 18 days. It is the seventh of the nine and begins 9 years 5 months 27 days after the mahadasha starts.
Budh’s 17 years × Rahu’s 18 years ÷ 120
2 years 6 months 18 days · 931 days
Mangal antardasha comes before it, and Guru antardasha after it.
Budh counts Rahu neither friend nor enemy (neutral), and Rahu counts Budh a friend. That natural relationship is where reading a Budh–Rahu period starts; where Budh and Rahu sit in your kundli decides what it brings. Texts differ on the friendships of Rahu and Ketu; this is the table the kundli here uses.

| Family | When it is hard: your relatives share in your anguish. |

Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 58, verses 47–55
Parashara reads Rahu’s antardasha in Budh’s mahadasha by where Rahu sits, counted from the lagna and from Budh, and by what it rules; your kundli shows which line is yours, and though the text speaks of a man, its results apply to anyone.
For relief, BPHS prescribes reciting the mantras of Goddess Durga and Goddess Lakshmi in the prescribed manner, and giving a tawny (kapila) cow or a female buffalo in charity.
BPHS 58.55A caution: When Rahu sits in your 2nd or 6th house (the verse names the 6th here, not the 7th it pairs with the 2nd elsewhere), BPHS warns of the danger of an untimely death, as in a maraka period (one the texts link with danger to life), and asks for care with health. BPHS 58.54
What Budh is for each lagna, as Parashara lists it; Rahu follows the lord of its rashi
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
| Lagna | Budh is (lord of) |
|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Malefic 3rd and 6th |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Mildly malefic— lord of the 2nd and 5th, which the verse calls 'somewhat inauspicious' (34.23) and does not name among the killers 2nd and 5th |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Lagna lord— the lagna lord, which the verse leaves unjudged: 34.25 names only Shukra auspicious for Mithun 1st and 4th |
| Kark (Cancer) | Malefic 3rd and 12th |
| Singh (Leo) | Malefic— lord of the 2nd, but the killers the verse names for this lagna are Shani and Chandra (34.29–30) 2nd and 11th |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Shukra (34.32) 1st and 10th |
| Tula (Libra) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Chandra (34.34) 9th and 12th |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Malefic 8th and 11th |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Surya (34.38)— lord of the 7th, but the killers the verse names for this lagna are Shani and Shukra (34.37–38) 7th and 10th |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Benefic 6th and 9th |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Neutral— gives mixed results (34.42) 5th and 8th |
| Meen (Pisces) | Malefic · Maraka 4th and 7th |
Rahu rules no house, so no lagna makes it good or bad by lordship: it gives the results of the house it sits in and of the lord of that rashi. Rahu in each house shows how.
One kundli that meets Budh–Rahu at 60, read the way the report reads yours
From the Janam Kundli report
Budh rules your 7th house and 10th house and sits in your 1st house: this period brings those matters forward — the spouse, partners, and those one deals with; work, standing, and those senior to you. Mixed — a kendra or trikona; on the other side: short of Shadbala.
In this kundli it runs 17 February 2044 – 5 September 2046, from the age of 60 to 62. Its length here can differ from the one above by a day, because each kundli’s dates round to the day.
Rahu: sits in your 6th house. It brings illness, debt, disputes, and thankless work. Go carefully — a difficult house and at a hard angle from Budh.
Shadbala: the six-fold measure of a graha’s strength the report computes; “short of Shadbala” means below the strength the texts ask of it.
Budh–Rahu divides into nine pratyantars from Rahu’s own on. Each length is counted between the dates beside it, and comes out the same in any kundli give or take a day; the dates and readings are this one’s.
| Pratyantar | Length | In this kundli | The report reads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rahu | 4 months 19 days | 17 February 2044 – 6 July 2044 | Care |
| Guru | 4 months 1 day | 6 July 2044 – 7 November 2044 | Mixed |
| Shani | 4 months 27 days | 7 November 2044 – 3 April 2045 | Care |
| Budh | 4 months 10 days | 3 April 2045 – 13 August 2045 | Care |
| Ketu | 1 month 23 days | 13 August 2045 – 6 October 2045 | Mixed |
| Shukra | 5 months 5 days | 6 October 2045 – 11 March 2046 | Mixed |
| Surya | 1 month 15 days | 11 March 2046 – 26 April 2046 | Mixed |
| Chandra | 2 months 17 days | 26 April 2046 – 13 July 2046 | Care |
| Mangal | 1 month 23 days | 13 July 2046 – 5 September 2046 | Opens |

Suggestions for Rahu’s months, which your kundli confirms
Parashara gives Budh–Rahu a remedy of its own (BPHS 58.55), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”; it comes first.
ॐ भ्रां भ्रीं भ्रौं सः राहवे नमः
Daan: a coconut and black cloth, on Saturday
What helps and what to keep clear of in any Rahu period: Rahu mahadasha. Its vrat, ratna, stotra and puja: Rahu upay.
2 years 6 months 18 days (931 days): Budh’s 17 years × Rahu’s 18 years ÷ 120. It begins 9 years 5 months 27 days after a Budh mahadasha starts.
Not in advance: it turns on your lagna and on where Budh and Rahu sit in your kundli. Rahu has no lagna of its own to be good or bad for; it gives the results of the lord of the rashi it sits in. Budh is favourable for Kanya (Virgo), Tula (Libra), Dhanu (Sagittarius), Makar (Capricorn) lagna. Budh is hard for Mesh (Aries), Kark (Cancer), Singh (Leo), Vrishchik (Scorpio), Meen (Pisces) lagna. By nature the friendship is uneven: Budh sees Rahu as neutral, and Rahu sees Budh as a friend. On the Dhanu lagna kundli above, the Janam Kundli report reads it as “Care”, as its chip above says.
Nine, in the order Rahu, Guru, Shani, Budh, Ketu, Shukra, Surya, Chandra, Mangal. Each is Budh–Rahu’s length × the pratyantar lord’s years ÷ 120, so the longest is Shukra’s, about 5 months 5 days, and the shortest Surya’s, about 1 month 15 days.
Parashara gives this antardasha a remedy of its own (BPHS 58.55), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”. The Rahu beej mantra, Om Bhraam Bhreem Bhraum Sah Rahave Namah, and a daan of a coconut and black cloth on Saturday are the everyday upay for Budh–Rahu, where your kundli shows the need.
