Budh mahadasha is about
trade, study and the written word
Budh · Ketu
Ketu antardasha in Budh mahadasha runs 11 months 27 days. It is the second of the nine and begins 2 years 4 months 27 days after the mahadasha starts.
Budh’s 17 years × Ketu’s 7 years ÷ 120
11 months 27 days · 362 days
Budh antardasha comes before it, and Shukra antardasha after it.
Budh and Ketu are neither friends nor enemies to each other (neutral). That natural relationship is where reading a Budh–Ketu period starts; where Budh and Ketu sit in your kundli decides what it brings. Texts differ on the friendships of Rahu and Ketu; this is the table the kundli here uses.

Budh–Ketu area by area, in plain words, from Parashara’s verses set out below
| Area | What the verses give |
|---|---|
| Work and standing | When it goes well: you gain income from your trade, win name, honour, and a meal with those in power; when it is hard: power turns against you and you quarrel with subordinates. |
| Money and property | When it goes well: you gain modest wealth, growing livestock and good clothes. |
| Family | When it goes well: you share warm ties with relatives; when it is hard: your son suffers. |
| Health | When it goes well: your health stays good; when it is hard: you may fall from a vehicle, be bitten or stung, fall ill, feel sorrow, and keep low company. |
For faith and journeys, Parashara’s verses on Budh–Ketu give nothing of their own; there the two grahas’ places in your kundli decide.
Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 58, verses 6–12
Parashara reads Ketu’s antardasha in Budh’s mahadasha by where Ketu sits, counted from the lagna and from Budh, and by what it rules; your kundli shows which line is yours, and though the text speaks of a man, its results apply to anyone.
For relief from these difficulties, BPHS prescribes giving a goat in charity.
BPHS 58.12A caution: When Ketu sits in your 2nd or 7th house or is joined with the lords of those houses, BPHS warns of physical distress and asks for care with health. The 2nd and 7th are the maraka houses, which the texts link with danger to life. BPHS 58.12
What Budh is for each lagna, as Parashara lists it; Ketu follows the lord of its rashi
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
| Lagna | Budh is (lord of) |
|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Malefic 3rd and 6th |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Mildly malefic— lord of the 2nd and 5th, which the verse calls 'somewhat inauspicious' (34.23) and does not name among the killers 2nd and 5th |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Lagna lord— the lagna lord, which the verse leaves unjudged: 34.25 names only Shukra auspicious for Mithun 1st and 4th |
| Kark (Cancer) | Malefic 3rd and 12th |
| Singh (Leo) | Malefic— lord of the 2nd, but the killers the verse names for this lagna are Shani and Chandra (34.29–30) 2nd and 11th |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Shukra (34.32) 1st and 10th |
| Tula (Libra) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Chandra (34.34) 9th and 12th |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Malefic 8th and 11th |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Surya (34.38)— lord of the 7th, but the killers the verse names for this lagna are Shani and Shukra (34.37–38) 7th and 10th |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Benefic 6th and 9th |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Neutral— gives mixed results (34.42) 5th and 8th |
| Meen (Pisces) | Malefic · Maraka 4th and 7th |
Ketu rules no house, so no lagna makes it good or bad by lordship: it gives the results of the house it sits in and of the lord of that rashi. Ketu in each house shows how.
One kundli that meets Budh–Ketu at 52, read the way the report reads yours
From the Janam Kundli report
Budh rules your 7th house and 10th house and sits in your 1st house: this period brings those matters forward — the spouse, partners, and those one deals with; work, standing, and those senior to you. Mixed — a kendra or trikona; on the other side: short of Shadbala.
In this kundli it runs 17 January 2037 – 14 January 2038, from the age of 52 to 53. Its length here can differ from the one above by a day, because each kundli’s dates round to the day.
Ketu: sits in your 12th house. It brings spending, sleep, foreign places, and what is given away. Go carefully — a difficult house and at a hard angle from Budh; on the other side: its sign's lord well placed.
Shadbala: the six-fold measure of a graha’s strength the report computes; “short of Shadbala” means below the strength the texts ask of it.
Budh–Ketu divides into nine pratyantars from Ketu’s own on. Each length is counted between the dates beside it, and comes out the same in any kundli give or take a day; the dates and readings are this one’s.
| Pratyantar | Length | In this kundli | The report reads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ketu | 21 days | 17 January 2037 – 7 February 2037 | Mixed |
| Shukra | 2 months 1 day | 7 February 2037 – 8 April 2037 | Mixed |
| Surya | 18 days | 8 April 2037 – 26 April 2037 | Mixed |
| Chandra | 1 month | 26 April 2037 – 26 May 2037 | Care |
| Mangal | 22 days | 26 May 2037 – 17 June 2037 | Opens |
| Rahu | 1 month 24 days | 17 June 2037 – 10 August 2037 | Mixed |
| Guru | 1 month 17 days | 10 August 2037 – 27 September 2037 | Mixed |
| Shani | 1 month 28 days | 27 September 2037 – 24 November 2037 | Care |
| Budh | 1 month 21 days | 24 November 2037 – 14 January 2038 | Mixed |

Suggestions for Ketu’s months, which your kundli confirms
Parashara gives Budh–Ketu a remedy of its own (BPHS 58.12), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”; it comes first.
ॐ स्रां स्रीं स्रौं सः केतवे नमः
Daan: a blanket and sesame, on Tuesday
What helps and what to keep clear of in any Ketu period: Ketu mahadasha. Its vrat, ratna, stotra and puja: Ketu upay.
11 months 27 days (362 days): Budh’s 17 years × Ketu’s 7 years ÷ 120. It begins 2 years 4 months 27 days after a Budh mahadasha starts.
Not in advance: it turns on your lagna and on where Budh and Ketu sit in your kundli. Ketu has no lagna of its own to be good or bad for; it gives the results of the lord of the rashi it sits in. Budh is favourable for Kanya (Virgo), Tula (Libra), Dhanu (Sagittarius), Makar (Capricorn) lagna. Budh is hard for Mesh (Aries), Kark (Cancer), Singh (Leo), Vrishchik (Scorpio), Meen (Pisces) lagna. By nature the two are neither friends nor enemies. On the Dhanu lagna kundli above, the Janam Kundli report reads it as “Care”, as its chip above says.
Nine, in the order Ketu, Shukra, Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Rahu, Guru, Shani, Budh. Each is Budh–Ketu’s length × the pratyantar lord’s years ÷ 120, so the longest is Shukra’s, about 2 months 1 day, and the shortest Surya’s, about 18 days.
Parashara gives this antardasha a remedy of its own (BPHS 58.12), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”. The Ketu beej mantra, Om Sraam Sreem Sraum Sah Ketave Namah, and a daan of a blanket and sesame on Tuesday are the everyday upay for Budh–Ketu, where your kundli shows the need.
