Budh mahadasha is about
trade, study and the written word
Budh · Chandra
Chandra antardasha in Budh mahadasha runs 1 year 5 months. It is the fifth of the nine and begins 7 years 1 month after the mahadasha starts.
Budh’s 17 years × Chandra’s 10 years ÷ 120
1 year 5 months · 517 days
Surya antardasha comes before it, and Mangal antardasha after it.
Budh counts Chandra an enemy, and Chandra counts Budh a friend. That natural relationship is where reading a Budh–Chandra period starts; where Budh and Chandra sit in your kundli decides what it brings.

Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 58, verses 26–35
Parashara reads Chandra’s antardasha in Budh’s mahadasha by where Chandra sits, counted from the lagna and from Budh, and by what it rules; your kundli shows which line is yours, and though the text speaks of a man, its results apply to anyone.
For relief, BPHS prescribes reciting the mantras of Goddess Durga in the prescribed manner and giving clothes in charity. It says Durga's grace then brings relief, a longer life and the return of comforts.
BPHS 58.35A caution: When Chandra rules your 2nd or 7th house, BPHS counts this a maraka period (one the texts link with danger to life). It warns of physical distress and asks for care with health. BPHS 58.34
What Budh and Chandra are for each lagna, as Parashara lists them, and the two read together
For Tula (Libra) lagna, Parashara names Budh and Chandra together as givers of yoga (34.34): the strongest this pair can be. Both are hard for Singh (Leo) lagna, where the period asks for the most care. For Kark (Cancer), Kanya (Virgo), Vrishchik (Scorpio), Makar (Capricorn), Meen (Pisces) lagna one is good and the other hard, so the period is mixed. Where one of the two is neutral, the other decides the lean: towards good for Dhanu (Sagittarius) and towards hard for Mesh (Aries), Vrishabh (Taurus), Mithun (Gemini), Kumbh (Aquarius).
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
| Lagna | Budh is (lord of) | Chandra is (lord of) | Together |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Malefic 3rd and 6th | Neutral 4th | Leans hard |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Mildly malefic— lord of the 2nd and 5th, which the verse calls 'somewhat inauspicious' (34.23) and does not name among the killers 2nd and 5th | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 3rd only, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.23–24) 3rd | Leans hard |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Lagna lord— the lagna lord, which the verse leaves unjudged: 34.25 names only Shukra auspicious for Mithun 1st and 4th | Maraka 2nd | Leans hard |
| Kark (Cancer) | Malefic 3rd and 12th | Benefic 1st | Mixed |
| Singh (Leo) | Malefic— lord of the 2nd, but the killers the verse names for this lagna are Shani and Chandra (34.29–30) 2nd and 11th | Maraka— lord of the 12th only, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.29–30) 12th | Hard |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Shukra (34.32) 1st and 10th | Malefic 11th | Mixed |
| Tula (Libra) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Chandra (34.34) 9th and 12th | Neutral · Yoga— gives yoga together with Budh (34.34) 10th | Yoga pair |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Malefic 8th and 11th | Yogakaraka— as the verse names it, together with Surya, the 10th lord (34.35–36) 9th | Mixed |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Surya (34.38)— lord of the 7th, but the killers the verse names for this lagna are Shani and Shukra (34.37–38) 7th and 10th | Neutral 8th | Leans favourable |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Benefic 6th and 9th | Malefic— lord of the 7th, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Mangal (34.39–40) 7th | Mixed |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Neutral— gives mixed results (34.42) 5th and 8th | Malefic 6th | Leans hard |
| Meen (Pisces) | Malefic · Maraka 4th and 7th | Benefic 5th | Mixed |
“Together” reads Budh and Chandra side by side: both favourable is Favourable; one favourable and one neutral, Leans favourable; one each way, Mixed; one hard and one neutral, Leans hard; both hard, Hard; both neutral, Placement decides. A Yoga pair is two grahas Parashara names together for that lagna. “Lagna lord” and “Mildly malefic” are the verse’s own words, neither favourable nor hard, and count as neutral here.
One kundli that meets Budh–Chandra at 57, read the way the report reads yours
From the Janam Kundli report
Budh rules your 7th house and 10th house and sits in your 1st house: this period brings those matters forward — the spouse, partners, and those one deals with; work, standing, and those senior to you. Mixed — a kendra or trikona; on the other side: short of Shadbala.
In this kundli it runs 20 September 2041 – 20 February 2043, from the age of 57 to 59. Its length here can differ from the one above by a day, because each kundli’s dates round to the day.
Chandra: rules your 8th house, sits in your 11th house. It brings hidden matters, delay, and other people's money. Mixed — a house of wealth or gain and well placed from Budh; on the other side: short of Shadbala.
Shadbala: the six-fold measure of a graha’s strength the report computes; “short of Shadbala” means below the strength the texts ask of it.
Budh–Chandra divides into nine pratyantars from Chandra’s own on. Each length is counted between the dates beside it, and comes out the same in any kundli give or take a day; the dates and readings are this one’s.
| Pratyantar | Length | In this kundli | The report reads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chandra | 1 month 13 days | 20 September 2041 – 2 November 2041 | Mixed |
| Mangal | 1 month | 2 November 2041 – 2 December 2041 | Opens |
| Rahu | 2 months 16 days | 2 December 2041 – 18 February 2042 | Care |
| Guru | 2 months 10 days | 18 February 2042 – 28 April 2042 | Mixed |
| Shani | 2 months 21 days | 28 April 2042 – 19 July 2042 | Mixed |
| Budh | 2 months 11 days | 19 July 2042 – 30 September 2042 | Mixed |
| Ketu | 1 month 1 day | 30 September 2042 – 31 October 2042 | Mixed |
| Shukra | 2 months 25 days | 31 October 2042 – 25 January 2043 | Mixed |
| Surya | 26 days | 25 January 2043 – 20 February 2043 | Mixed |

Suggestions for Chandra’s months, which your kundli confirms
Parashara gives Budh–Chandra a remedy of its own (BPHS 58.35), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”; it comes first.
ॐ श्रां श्रीं श्रौं सः चन्द्राय नमः
Daan: rice and white cloth, on Monday
What helps and what to keep clear of in any Chandra period: Chandra mahadasha. Its vrat, ratna, stotra and puja: Chandra upay.
1 year 5 months (517 days): Budh’s 17 years × Chandra’s 10 years ÷ 120. It begins 7 years 1 month after a Budh mahadasha starts.
Not in advance: it turns on your lagna and on where Budh and Chandra sit in your kundli. By Parashara’s lists it is strongest for Tula (Libra) lagna. It is hardest for Singh (Leo) lagna. By nature the friendship is uneven: Budh sees Chandra as an enemy, and Chandra sees Budh as a friend. On the Dhanu lagna kundli above, the Janam Kundli report reads it as “Mixed”, as its chip above says.
Nine, in the order Chandra, Mangal, Rahu, Guru, Shani, Budh, Ketu, Shukra, Surya. Each is Budh–Chandra’s length × the pratyantar lord’s years ÷ 120, so the longest is Shukra’s, about 2 months 25 days, and the shortest Surya’s, about 26 days.
Parashara gives this antardasha a remedy of its own (BPHS 58.35), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”. The Chandra beej mantra, Om Shraam Shreem Shraum Sah Chandraya Namah, and a daan of rice and white cloth on Monday are the everyday upay for Budh–Chandra, where your kundli shows the need.
It follows from the Moon’s nakshatra at your birth. Enter your birth details and the whole 120-year timeline comes with it, each period read for your chart.
