Rahu mahadasha is about
ambition, the unfamiliar and sudden turns
Rahu · Ketu
Ketu antardasha in Rahu mahadasha runs 1 year 18 days. It is the fifth of the nine and begins 10 years 6 months after the mahadasha starts.
Rahu’s 18 years × Ketu’s 7 years ÷ 120
1 year 18 days · 384 days
Budh antardasha comes before it, and Shukra antardasha after it.
Rahu and Ketu are neither friends nor enemies to each other (neutral). That natural relationship is where reading a Rahu–Ketu period starts; where Rahu and Ketu sit in your kundli decides what it brings. Texts differ on the friendships of Rahu and Ketu; this is the table the kundli here uses. Rahu and Ketu always stand exactly opposite each other in a chart, six rashis apart, so this period joins the two ends of one axis: the houses they sit in are always 1st and 7th from each other.

Rahu–Ketu area by area, in plain words, from Parashara’s verses set out below

Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 55, verses 40–45
Parashara reads Ketu’s antardasha in Rahu’s mahadasha by where Ketu sits, counted from the lagna and from Rahu, and by what it rules; your kundli shows which line is yours, and though the text speaks of a man, its results apply to anyone.
For relief from these troubles, BPHS prescribes giving a goat in charity.
BPHS 55.43–45A caution: When Ketu sits in your 2nd or 7th house or is joined with the lords of those houses, BPHS warns of distress to the body. The 2nd and 7th are the maraka houses, which the texts link with danger to life. BPHS 55.43–45
Rahu and Ketu rule no house, so no lagna makes this period good or bad by lordship
Each gives the results of the house it sits in and of the lord of that rashi: Rahu in each house · Ketu in each house
The period works on one of six axes, set by the house Rahu sits in, with Ketu at the other end; the two ends of your axis are the matters it brings forward.
| Rahu and Ketu in (either way round) | One end | The other end |
|---|---|---|
| 1st and 7th | self, body and health | marriage and partnership |
| 2nd and 8th | family, savings and speech | longevity, sudden events and inheritance |
| 3rd and 9th | courage, siblings and effort | father, fortune and dharma |
| 4th and 10th | mother, home and property | career and standing |
| 5th and 11th | children, study and intellect | gains, income and elder siblings |
| 6th and 12th | illness, debt and rivals | expenses, foreign lands and moksha |
One kundli that meets Rahu–Ketu at 63, read the way the report reads yours
From the Janam Kundli report
Rahu sits in your 4th house: this period brings its matters forward — the home, the mother, land and vehicles, and rest. A node gives the results of the lord of its sign: here Shani, which rules your 4th house and 5th house and sits in your 3rd house. Mixed — a kendra or trikona, and nothing else: one point in favour does not open a period.
In this kundli it runs 13 November 2053 – 1 December 2054, from the age of 63 to 64. Its length here can differ from the one above by a day, because each kundli’s dates round to the day.
Ketu: sits in your 10th house. It brings work, standing, and those senior to you. Mixed — a kendra or trikona and well placed from Rahu; on the other side: its sign's lord weak.
Rahu–Ketu divides into nine pratyantars from Ketu’s own on. Each length is counted between the dates beside it, and comes out the same in any kundli give or take a day; the dates and readings are this one’s.
| Pratyantar | Length | In this kundli | The report reads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ketu | 22 days | 13 November 2053 – 5 December 2053 | Mixed |
| Shukra | 2 months 2 days | 5 December 2053 – 7 February 2054 | Mixed |
| Surya | 19 days | 7 February 2054 – 26 February 2054 | Opens |
| Chandra | 1 month 4 days | 26 February 2054 – 30 March 2054 | Mixed |
| Mangal | 23 days | 30 March 2054 – 22 April 2054 | Mixed |
| Rahu | 1 month 27 days | 22 April 2054 – 18 June 2054 | Opens |
| Guru | 1 month 21 days | 18 June 2054 – 8 August 2054 | Care |
| Shani | 2 months | 8 August 2054 – 8 October 2054 | Mixed |
| Budh | 1 month 23 days | 8 October 2054 – 1 December 2054 | Care |

Suggestions for Ketu’s months, which your kundli confirms
Parashara gives Rahu–Ketu a remedy of its own (BPHS 55.43–45), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”; it comes first.
ॐ स्रां स्रीं स्रौं सः केतवे नमः
Daan: a blanket and sesame, on Tuesday
What helps and what to keep clear of in any Ketu period: Ketu mahadasha. Its vrat, ratna, stotra and puja: Ketu upay.
1 year 18 days (384 days): Rahu’s 18 years × Ketu’s 7 years ÷ 120. It begins 10 years 6 months after a Rahu mahadasha starts.
Not in advance: it turns on your lagna and on where Rahu and Ketu sit in your kundli. Rahu has no lagna of its own to be good or bad for; it gives the results of the lord of the rashi it sits in. By nature the two are neither friends nor enemies. On the Tula lagna kundli above, the Janam Kundli report reads it as “Mixed”, as its chip above says.
Nine, in the order Ketu, Shukra, Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Rahu, Guru, Shani, Budh. Each is Rahu–Ketu’s length × the pratyantar lord’s years ÷ 120, so the longest is Shukra’s, about 2 months 2 days, and the shortest Surya’s, about 19 days.
Parashara gives this antardasha a remedy of its own (BPHS 55.43–45), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”. The Ketu beej mantra, Om Sraam Sreem Sraum Sah Ketave Namah, and a daan of a blanket and sesame on Tuesday are the everyday upay for Rahu–Ketu, where your kundli shows the need.
It follows from the Moon’s nakshatra at your birth. Enter your birth details and the whole 120-year timeline comes with it, each period read for your chart.
