Budh mahadasha is about
trade, study and the written word
Budh · Guru
Guru antardasha in Budh mahadasha runs 2 years 3 months 6 days. It is the eighth of the nine and begins 12 years 15 days after the mahadasha starts.
Budh’s 17 years × Guru’s 16 years ÷ 120
2 years 3 months 6 days · 828 days
Rahu antardasha comes before it, and Shani antardasha after it.
Budh counts Guru neither friend nor enemy (neutral), and Guru counts Budh an enemy. That natural relationship is where reading a Budh–Guru period starts; where Budh and Guru sit in your kundli decides what it brings.

Budh–Guru area by area, in plain words, from Parashara’s verses set out below
| Area | What the verses give |
|---|---|
| Work and standing | When it goes well: you gain the favour of those in power, and name and fame; when it is hard: power turns against you, government penalties follow, and even Brahmins trouble you. |
| Money and property | When it goes well: wealth gains and grows; when it is hard: you lose wealth, harvests fail, and you lose land. |
| Family | When it goes well: relatives and a son bring happiness, with happy occasions such as weddings; when it is hard: relatives and spouse turn against you, and parents may die. |
| Health | When it goes well: your health is good; when it is hard: thieves, snakes and poison threaten you, fever and illness come, and you feel anguish and anxiety. |
| Faith and journeys | When it goes well: you grow devoted to the deities, your guru and Shiva, listen to the Puranas, and give grain in charity. |
Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 58, verses 56–66
Parashara reads Guru’s antardasha in Budh’s mahadasha by where Guru sits, counted from the lagna and from Budh, and by what it rules; your kundli shows which line is yours, and though the text speaks of a man, its results apply to anyone.
For relief, BPHS prescribes reciting the Shiva Sahasranama, the thousand names of Shiva, and giving a cow and gold in charity.
BPHS 58.66A caution: When Guru rules your 2nd or 7th house, or sits in the 2nd or 7th, BPHS treats it as a maraka caution (the 2nd and 7th being the houses the texts link with danger to life). It warns of physical distress and asks for care with health. BPHS 58.65
What Budh and Guru are for each lagna, as Parashara lists them, and the two read together
For Mesh (Aries), Kark (Cancer), Singh (Leo), Kanya (Virgo), Tula (Libra), Vrishchik (Scorpio), Makar (Capricorn), Meen (Pisces) lagna one is good and the other hard, so the period is mixed. Where one of the two is neutral, the other decides the lean: towards good for Dhanu (Sagittarius) and towards hard for Vrishabh (Taurus), Mithun (Gemini), Kumbh (Aquarius).
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
| Lagna | Budh is (lord of) | Guru is (lord of) | Together |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Malefic 3rd and 6th | Benefic 9th and 12th | Mixed |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Mildly malefic— lord of the 2nd and 5th, which the verse calls 'somewhat inauspicious' (34.23) and does not name among the killers 2nd and 5th | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 8th and 11th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.23–24) 8th and 11th | Leans hard |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Lagna lord— the lagna lord, which the verse leaves unjudged: 34.25 names only Shukra auspicious for Mithun 1st and 4th | Malefic— lord of the 7th, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Chandra (34.25–26) 7th and 10th | Leans hard |
| Kark (Cancer) | Malefic 3rd and 12th | Benefic 6th and 9th | Mixed |
| Singh (Leo) | Malefic— lord of the 2nd, but the killers the verse names for this lagna are Shani and Chandra (34.29–30) 2nd and 11th | Benefic 5th and 8th | Mixed |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Shukra (34.32) 1st and 10th | Malefic— lord of the 7th, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Shukra (34.31–32) 4th and 7th | Mixed |
| Tula (Libra) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Chandra (34.34) 9th and 12th | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 3rd and 6th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.33–34) 3rd and 6th | Mixed |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Malefic 8th and 11th | Benefic— lord of the 2nd, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Shukra (34.35–36) 2nd and 5th | Mixed |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Surya (34.38)— lord of the 7th, but the killers the verse names for this lagna are Shani and Shukra (34.37–38) 7th and 10th | Neutral— the lagna lord, which the verse calls neutral (34.38) 1st and 4th | Leans favourable |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Benefic 6th and 9th | Malefic 3rd and 12th | Mixed |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Neutral— gives mixed results (34.42) 5th and 8th | Malefic · Maraka 2nd and 11th | Leans hard |
| Meen (Pisces) | Malefic · Maraka 4th and 7th | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Mangal (34.44) 1st and 10th | Mixed |
“Together” reads Budh and Guru side by side: both favourable is Favourable; one favourable and one neutral, Leans favourable; one each way, Mixed; one hard and one neutral, Leans hard; both hard, Hard; both neutral, Placement decides. A Yoga pair is two grahas Parashara names together for that lagna. “Lagna lord” and “Mildly malefic” are the verse’s own words, neither favourable nor hard, and count as neutral here.
One kundli that meets Budh–Guru at 62, read the way the report reads yours
From the Janam Kundli report
Budh rules your 7th house and 10th house and sits in your 1st house: this period brings those matters forward — the spouse, partners, and those one deals with; work, standing, and those senior to you. Mixed — a kendra or trikona; on the other side: short of Shadbala.
In this kundli it runs 5 September 2046 – 11 December 2048, from the age of 62 to 64. Its length here can differ from the one above by a day, because each kundli’s dates round to the day.
Guru: rules your 1st house and 4th house, sits in your 1st house. It brings the body, health, temperament and the self; the home, the mother, land and vehicles, and rest. Mixed — a kendra or trikona and strong in its sign; on the other side: short of Shadbala and in an enemy's sign in the navamsa.
Shadbala: the six-fold measure of a graha’s strength the report computes; “short of Shadbala” means below the strength the texts ask of it. Navamsa: the ninth-division chart, read for a graha’s inner strength.
Budh–Guru divides into nine pratyantars from Guru’s own on. Each length is counted between the dates beside it, and comes out the same in any kundli give or take a day; the dates and readings are this one’s.
| Pratyantar | Length | In this kundli | The report reads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guru | 3 months 20 days | 5 September 2046 – 25 December 2046 | Mixed |
| Shani | 4 months 10 days | 25 December 2046 – 5 May 2047 | Mixed |
| Budh | 3 months 25 days | 5 May 2047 – 30 August 2047 | Mixed |
| Ketu | 1 month 17 days | 30 August 2047 – 17 October 2047 | Care |
| Shukra | 4 months 15 days | 17 October 2047 – 3 March 2048 | Mixed |
| Surya | 1 month 11 days | 3 March 2048 – 14 April 2048 | Mixed |
| Chandra | 2 months 8 days | 14 April 2048 – 22 June 2048 | Mixed |
| Mangal | 1 month 18 days | 22 June 2048 – 9 August 2048 | Opens |
| Rahu | 4 months 2 days | 9 August 2048 – 11 December 2048 | Care |

Suggestions for Guru’s months, which your kundli confirms
Parashara gives Budh–Guru a remedy of its own (BPHS 58.66), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”; it comes first.
ॐ ग्रां ग्रीं ग्रौं सः गुरवे नमः
Daan: chana dal and turmeric, on Thursday
What helps and what to keep clear of in any Guru period: Guru mahadasha. Its vrat, ratna, stotra and puja: Guru upay.
2 years 3 months 6 days (828 days): Budh’s 17 years × Guru’s 16 years ÷ 120. It begins 12 years 15 days after a Budh mahadasha starts.
Not in advance: it turns on your lagna and on where Budh and Guru sit in your kundli. By Parashara’s lists no lagna has both lords favourable. By nature the friendship is uneven: Budh sees Guru as neutral, and Guru sees Budh as an enemy. On the Dhanu lagna kundli above, the Janam Kundli report reads it as “Mixed”, as its chip above says.
Nine, in the order Guru, Shani, Budh, Ketu, Shukra, Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Rahu. Each is Budh–Guru’s length × the pratyantar lord’s years ÷ 120, so the longest is Shukra’s, about 4 months 15 days, and the shortest Surya’s, about 1 month 11 days.
Parashara gives this antardasha a remedy of its own (BPHS 58.66), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”. The Guru beej mantra, Om Graam Greem Graum Sah Gurave Namah, and a daan of chana dal and turmeric on Thursday are the everyday upay for Budh–Guru, where your kundli shows the need.
